A second night. Holly didn't think it could get any stranger. Between the green full moon hanging in the sky and the storm that accompanied it, she wondered if this was merely a coincidence. Did scientists have anything to explain this with? Did scholars in magic have anyway to tell why this was happening? As Holly awoke to the knowledge that she would need to help the inn, she couldn't place why she recognized a definite sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach. As much as she wanted to express it to Wynter or Fayt, Holly kept quiet and made her way downstairs. That's when she heard it. She didn't know what it was, but it was a beckoning of sorts that had a good hold on her mind. Chilling and ethereal. Calming and frightening... Without even realizing it, Holly was outside, dressed for a storm with an umbrella in hand. Even as the wind whipped her hair around and rain stung her cheeks when it hit, Holly wanted to know just what was calling her. She was walking again, not fully aware of herself. She should have stayed at the inn and helped secure everything down. She should have told someone that she was leaving. Why wasn't she going back? No, she wanted to know what this was. Just had to keep searching, no matter how aimless it was. ★ round two, go!

This was certainly not normal. It didn't take an astronomer to work out that two consecutive full moons was strange, storm or no storm. Coupling that with that unearthly song... well, suffice it to say that Adell was on edge. He didn't understand what was happening, but he felt as though something was happening, or on the verge of happening. For all he knew, it could have been something dangerous. Maybe the sight of a sword at his hip would make people unusually wary of him, but he was not intending to leave himself disarmed, especially not now. Likewise, despite not wishing to leave Lycoris undefended, Adell would rather find the source of the disturbance as opposed to waiting for it to come to them. It was hard to locate the source of the song, but its seeming omnipresence was disconcerting. Skill with magic notwithstanding, this was far beyond his knowledge and expertise. The only prudent thing to do would be to investigate. With a waterproofed cloak to keep off the worst of the rain, and a swordbelt firmly at his hip, Adell reluctantly set out from the warmth of the inn. He was expecting to be largely alone, but it seemed that would not be the case. The girl's name eluded him for the moment, so he went with what he did remember. "Devanti? What are you doing out here?"★ holly, briar ★ punch storm until it stops storming.

There was something to be said about the sensitive senses of her race. While more often than not they were an annoyance, there were times when she was thankful for them. As she stood under the rain, with her coat and umbrella looking up at the full moon that should not have been appearing for another season, she was unsure what to call it this time. The storm was no different than the first one that had occurred only a small time ago. Her tail remained tucked neatly about her waist inside the warmth of her coat, the almost clear rose-tinted umbrella her shield from the wetness of the rain. On the edge of her ears she could hear a melody, distinct as if it were around her very being. Her ears twitched. So close, yet not quite there. Where would it take her? The chill of spring rain clung to her as she walked, her shoes clicking against the cobblestone pavement. The sight of a familiar figure, and another though not quite as distinct yet still memorable, entering her vision as she drew closer caused her to pause. Taking a few more steps forward, she stopped a few paces from them. "Not admiring the view, that I can be sure." Her lips drew up in a smile at the sight of her longtime friend. Amber eyes drifted towards Adell, glinting knowingly. "Did the notes on the wind catch your attention as well?"★ holly, adell ★ well, hello there~

Holly blinked out of her trance, eyes following the new voice to the bodyguard of the princess. Tough, rugged, and yet personable in a way that Holly wouldn't feel too intimidated by him if she would need to talk to him. They hadn't talked yet and only names had been mention, so it didn't surprise her that he only spoke her last name, though she wasn't entirely sure if it was out of memory loss or simple respect. "Windsor," Holly commented back, just following after his lead. "I was--" She cut off at the sight of another. It was only a split second to take in Briar and her expressions toward other people. She had a way of looking like she had something up her sleeve without even trying, or, at least that's what Holly had gathered over the years of knowing. She was kind, however, and a good friend. With the glance the beastman gave the bodyguard, it was safely assumed that they were already acquainted. An odd thing to think about. Holly had been working at the inn and hardly saw anything of the man. Shaking her head, Holly attempted to speak again, "Yeah, I heard something. I was trying to find out what was making the sound..." Trailing off, her blue gaze turned back to where she was looking: the ocean. "I feel like it's coming from the ocean, but... I can't tell, it sounds like it's coming from everywhere." It was enough to give someone a headache. ★ ---

Considering what had happened between them recently, it wasn't surprising that Briar's appearance caused a little shuffling of the feet and a somewhat unsure smile in greeting. She was an interesting person, he could say that much, but he didn't know her well enough to say much else. "Something like that," An unsure shrug was given, concern and curiosity driving him out into the driving rain. At least this time he was actually prepared. "It doesn't feel right. Between the storm, the moon, and that sound... it is clear that something strange is afoot." It probably wouldn't be a simple task, but finding the source of the sound would be a good start. Adell nodded in agreement with Holly's sentiment. The source of the sound was difficult to place, and it seemed to fill the air as opposed to echoing through it . Adell rubbed at his chin in thought. Could it be some kind of seaborne phenomenon, some kind of siren's call? Adell didn't know enough to say either way, but something of a lead was better than nothing. "The coast is as good a place to start as any. If we're going out in the cold and the rain, we might as well try to find the source of all this." He looked between Holly and Briar, seeing what they had to say for themselves. He wasn't anxious about going alone, but it would weigh on his conscience if either of them had ill befall them in his absence. ★ holly, briar ★ sorry about slow-ish replies. lots of classes and three assignments due this week.

So he hadn't forgotten. That much she had been expecting. The actions of the last time had made sure of that, and the awkward shuffling of his feet and unsure smile only increased her desire to pick on him. Though that would be for another time, and it seemed quite obvious her best friend and he knew each other in some way. "That is obvious by now. For as long as I have lived here, Ilusia has never had something like this happen." Taking a step forward to once again begin walking, Briar placed herself beside Holly for a moment. A private smile in greeting without needing words was given before she continued toward the coast. "People acting strange is one thing, but the weather is something else entirely. That and music doesn't just start playing out of no where and sound like it is coming from everywhere. Even my ears are bothered by it.""So, Holly, sate my curiosity. How do you two know each other?" Tipping up her umbrella to get a better look at the more fair-haired blonde, she twirled it around in her hand. A glance was given back over her shoulder to Adell as she continued. "Or is my speculation from before like I thought it to be?"★ holly, adell ★ sorry, I am being slow too </3

Unfortunately for Briar and Adell, Holly had already seemed to take off in the direction she suspected the sound to be coming from, walking at a relatively easy pace to follow. From what she gathered with their voices as background noise, they were just echoing what had already been said or thought. Holly worked in a way that needed for her to focus her thoughts elsewhere, many mental notes being taken and thought processes checked through. "Huh?" When words were directed at her, Holly snapped out of her trance for the second time, bringing her attention to her friend. She blinked, running the question through her mind a few more times like she needed to rethink how she wanted to hear it, instead of how she wanted to answer it. Gods, she was out of it. "Um, he's the princess's bodyguard and they're staying at our inn along with one of the princess's maids. I don't... Well, I think you know more about him than I do."Holly shrugged. It wasn't like it was anything big or important in the scheme of things. Maybe she should have considered it as such, but it wasn't like her father or mother were getting any huge praise for the action. Looking over her shoulder, she gave Adell an apologetic smile. She hadn't realized how she had made her statement sound-- like he wasn't even there. Likewise, she added, "If Briar's being mean, you can always say something and I'll make her stop." Though it was usually entertaining to watch, Holly wasn't quite in the right mindset and she also had no idea what Briar was doing. ★ slow people

It seemed to Adell that Holly wasn't entirely present, so to speak. It could be due to the late hour, or a lack of rest, but the perception that she was quite distracted stuck. He didn't pay it much mind, but it was a bit irksome, having that feeling that your words weren't really being listened to. As for Briar... best not to think what her 'speculation' entailed. No, far better to leave that entire mess alone. "It is quite alright, Devanti. You needn't trouble yourself." Was Briar being intentionally mean? Adell did not think so, but, then again, he wasn't the most perceptive person. At the end of the day, however, if he couldn't notice it, it was hardly worth making a fuss over. That meanness might be given substance if Briar's opinion of him changed now that it was revealed that he was a Heimite, but his clothing and accent were likely hints towards that to begin with. Still, it was difficult to imagine any Ilusian of being receptive of someone sent directly on the Queen's orders. There really wasn't much else to add, especially with the wind and rain stealing their words. Better to just press on towards their apparent destination.Despite everything, he was still a bit anxious to see what Briar's response to his occupation and reason for being here would be, but, then again, it was quite possible that she already knew. Adell tugged at the hood of his cloak, pulling it lower so the rain would not assault his eyes. Minor concerns aside, this was more than a little strange, and it was difficult to fight the impulse to rest his hand on the hilt of his sword. ★ holly, briar ★ egad I hate assignment week.

"Oh, please. If I was being mean, you would have known already." Briar shook her head as the beach was surveyed, her eyes rolling before turning into a smile as she shook her head at the blonde. So that was how it was going to be. Two could play at that game. "You might be right, though, considering we did spend the night together."Knowing fully how that might sound, she allowed her gaze to flicker back to Adell. So her instincts the previous storm had been right. Looking at him now as well, he seemed to be just as soft spoken a he had been that night. Was that a theme to him? No doubt she would have plenty of time to find out. "So you know Xara, then," It was more of a statement than a question. If he was a bodyguard to a princess, that had to have meant he was a knight. Knights were nobles, weren't they? Her lips quirked. "I should have guessed it was you, Adell."★ holly, adell ★ okay, twenty replies go go go!

"It's not trouble when it's Briar. It's a regular occurrence. I'm not surprised about the teasing," Holly tried to keep her tone light, but her mind was going in so many places that keeping up a conversation with the right mood in mind was becoming a difficult task. It was also weird how the rain and wind didn't seem to catch into her mind until she nearly fell over from a gust from it. Her shoes sank into the sand as they explored the beach. The call didn't come any clearer to her, as though everything was even more muffled. Maybe finding it that way meant they were getting closer. With everything so backwards, it was possible the only way it made sense was when it didn't. Either that, or Holly was too tired to look around properly. "Does it sound clearer to you? Closer?"★ now i'm slow. derp.

Adell wasn't sure what to be more taken aback by; Briar's completely misleading statement, or the utter lack of recognition from Holly. There was the possibility that such things were normal around here, but, still, even some recognition was expected. Reaction or no reaction, he found his face heating up once again, hoping that the dark and the rain would keep Briar from learning just how easily she could cause discomfort. Well, if Holly hadn't even heard the statement, the best course of action would just be to avoid it altogether. But who knew what kind of rumours would spread if this beastwoman kept talking like that? Internally, Adell groaned. "I've known Xara for a long time," It didn't even occur to him to refer to her as 'Miss Raihan;' not surprising given the fact that it was taking a fair bit of concentration just to keep his voice level. A moment passed, and Adell realized how that may have been misinterpreted as well. "I-I mean... well, we've both both been serving the princess together for a long while. So we know each other, as... well, co-workers, I suppose." Adell wasn't even sure why he was working so hard to avoid misunderstandings. Adell shook his head, and tried to focus at the task at hand. His expression grew more serious, and his posture relaxed as he strained to listen for the sound, trying to hear anything new or different in it. "It is hard to say. With the rain and waves..." Adell trailed off, the rest of that thought obvious. Though Adell could probably still say more about the music itself than its point of origin. "If it is near the coast, where would it be? Are there any notable structures or caves along the coastline?"★ holly, briar ★ herp derp.

So he was the shy type, after all, in more than just the events they had found themselves in the night of the last storm. In some ways that knowledge was gratifying, and the now red hue of his cheeks did not escape her notice. Even so, he was awfully uptight for a noble and rarely seemed to relax. Finding out why could be done later. For the time being, Briar let her gaze turn serious. The smile that had been on her lips before vanished as she closed her eyes, stretching her hearing out to concentrate on more than just the sounds of the two people beside her. The slightest bristle of leaves could be heard on her sensitive ears. Right in the distance further down the beach, a sharp pang from the music came, different from the notes drifting on the wind. Opening her eyes, she pointed down the beach. "There. The sound of the music sounds acutely different from here."★ holly, adell ★ we can do iiiit

Following where Briar pointed, Holly tried to think about what was that way on the beach. She had explored the coast so much, it was a wonder how she didn't already have a good understanding where everything was there. Plus, saying you knew something like the back of your hand begged for you to get something wrong about the place you apparently knew so well. "I think there's a cave over that way," Holly commented over the roar of another sharp howl of wind. This time, it seemed to catch her off balance when she stepped, so the fair-haired girl wobbled unsteadily before going down on one knee the second step. There was only a moment of hesitation and then Holly was back on her feet, heading straight for where Briar had gestured to before. The cave that Holly had remembered was, unfortunately, caved in. Not so much recently, but in the span of time since Holly had last visited. Was that they place? Who knew. "If it's in there, we could try finding a spot to crawl in... But I don't think that's a good idea," Nor did she know if this was the right spot. Waiting for Briar to catch something again might be better. ★ now i'm just making stuff up

Well, a beastman's ears were probably the most reliable, so Adell raised no objections. He still couldn't really hear any real difference in volume or direction, so following Briar's lead seemed natural. Holly's collapse was cause for some concern, and Adell automatically offered a hand to help her up, but it seemed that would not be necessary. Commoner or not, Adell had still been taught in the basics of chivalry and proper conduct, and he hardly thought so highly of himself so as to prevent him from lending the most basic of aid. "If it has already caved in once, it may be unstable." It was a fair enough observation, not to mention the fact that crawling inside a likely-cramped and flooded cave was far from appealing. "And the moon may be bright, but, well, we don't really have any means of illumination." And even if any of them had the presence of mind to bring a lantern or torch, it would be difficult to keep lit with the wind and rain. Adell sighed to himself, aware that he was only providing problems, not solutions. The area was surveyed for some kind of entrance or hole. If nothing else, they could at least peer inside. "If it is coming from in here, who, or what, could be making such a noise?" It was a fair enough question, and if this was something relating to folk tales or the like, Holly and Briar had a much higher chance of knowing something than he did. ★ holly, briar ★ Adell is the only non-plant-name-person in this thread.

"Exactly. Crawling in there won't do us any good as it is." Perhaps it was the eery glow of the moon, but the ocean seemed more uneasy than she had been used to seeing it. The green glow of the moon had cast itself across the water, and Briar found her amber eyes following the glow as it too seemed to turn the water from midnight blue to a shade of green. "At any rate, going in like this wouldn't solve our situation. Though it does seem to be coming from this area." Moving her gaze from the water, Briar stepped forward towards the cave in. Reaching for one of the smaller rocks wedged there, she put her hand on it. "Even if it is coming from here, I can't tell with these in the way. Watch your step."Pulling hard, the beastwoman dislodged the small rock from its place. Like a domino effect, the others followed, falling to clear the opening of the small water-made cave. ★ holly, adell ★ h-he really is
