personality
Aelrich is psychotic. No, it's not in a cute "ha ha you're so crazy" kind of way, but also not in the "stab you in the eye with a hot french fry" kind of way; it's in a "don't make eye contact with the twitching man in the tinfoil hat talking to himself" kind of way. He has a vast amount of psychological problems: obsessive-compulsive disorder, paranoid schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and possibly disassociative identity disorder, though he can't be sure of that and no one's ever confirmed it for him. He's also an occasional somnambulist, so that's a thing he deals with, too, though he's pretty positive he's never committed any crimes while sleepwalking. ...probably. He also has some health problems, such as malnutrition (brought on by his schizophrenia) and a sensitivity to sunlight due to his albinism. Other than that, he's just fine! Really!
Despite all of this, Aelrich somehow manages to be a rather cheerful guy. He doesn't trust people as far as he can throw them, of course, but with how long he's lived... that's probably an inevitability. Thankfully, none of his conditions are terribly severe, just present enough for him to be aware of them, so he's only occasionally debilitated by them. He's not naive, exactly, but he's terribly... well, "socially slow" is a good way to describe him and he doesn't pick up on cues easily. He's entirely unempathetic, so don't expect any sympathy or that sort of thing from him because you most certainly will not get it. He's a very good listener, though, as long as you don't want advice, because his attention span is cut shorter than his fingernails.

Aelrich wasn't abandoned, exactly, more... conveniently forgotten by his parents when they went off on a trip that they never came back from. If he cared at all, he'd probably be broken up by this, but he doesn't, so he isn't. From childhood, he was something of a loner, but he could hear voices in various places and things would talk to him. Generally, it was trees and plant life, so he was always more than happy just to sit out in the forest and have conversations with people that only he could hear. He still does that on a regular basis.
It wasn't long before he discovered the joy of art. Most of it is abstract, yes, but he loves drawing, painting, sculpting... anything having to do with creating things with his hands, as long as it doesn't involve metal. He'll work in any medium, even sand and dirt, though he prefers the things he can actually take and sell. He even makes blown glass art, sometimes, though it's not often as he finds it difficult to get the materials.
He works in the back room of the general store in Asgard and dislikes it when he's interrupted while making his art. He frequently leaves without warning, though, to go somewhere else to get inspiration. He's been known to wander away for days, or even weeks, at a time... but he always comes back, eventually.
