The unknown was probably everyone's greatest fear. Rejection, commitment, abandonment. All of them were forms of the unknown. Forms of not being able to tell what was going to be the next move of the person you talked to. It's what all made it so hard for Holly to do anything or get anything done. In a way, it was because of that she didn't say anything. Even if he did have mutual feelings, she thought Wynter deserved someone who didn't have the issue she did. Sometimes she just wished he would do something. Something to give her a better sign of how he felt, a sort of gauge on if he even saw her in that way or if she was just his best friend's little sister. Sometimes she wished he would do something, however she was also aware that it was Wynter. He tended to be traditional in whatever he did, and making a sudden move would be out of character, wouldn't it? Holly glanced at Wynter, then the fruit in his fingers nearing her face. Proactive, proactive, proactive, she thought in her head in a loop. "Just this once? You sure?" She grinned softly, leaning forward to wrap her mouth around the fruit and, further, his fingers. Her tongue licked off the juices while her teeth grazed ever so softly. Pulling back slowly, she licked her lips and looked up at him with her oceanic blue gaze expectantly. ★ she's a very monologue-ish person

"Possibly." There was the likelihood of her getting him to do it again in the future. That always existed where they were concerned. It was only a matter of time before she found some new way to bend him around her finger, no matter what it was she wanted. The thing was, he didn't always try to fight it, either. That went on to show when Holly slowly leaned forward, wrapping her lips around the fruit in question. He couldn't help but stare as they suckled on the juice that dropped down the watermelon. When she didn't stop, taking even more of the fruit into her mouth along with his fingers, his whole hand stilled. He knew she had done that on purpose, and now the feeling of her lips and tongue around his fingers remained even as she pulled away. She blinked up at him with that innocent expression. Two could play at that game. Slowly, oh so slowly, the look of astonishment on his face turned into a teasing one of his own. His lips curved into a smirk that remained in place as his eyes lidded. Reaching for one of the glasses of sweet tea, he moved the glass to her lips for her to drink. "Well, how is it?"★ holly, open ★ yep, this is going places

She knew that she could throw him off for at least a few seconds. The only problem was that when her innocent expression had only brought about a smirk to his face in the end, Holly had a moment of panic. Did she show it? No, she had found in the past that it was better to keep that hidden until the right second lest she wanted this time with Wynter to be cast into bouts of giggles and humored smiles. Obliging his next notion, Holly swallowed a sip of sweet tea, closing her eyes and humming in content. "Sweet. Not overpowering but... just enough for you to want more," she answered softly, calmly. It was almost stunning to herself that she wasn't fidgeting or stuttering by then. She was going to push through this! If it was the last thing that she would do, it was to follow through with whatever this was! Holly tilted her head ever so slightly to the side as she looked up at him again. "Would you like to try it?" The fair-haired girl asked him, eyes managing to keep the innocent nature that they held before. ★ -rolls around-

This was dangerous. It was very dangerous. Wynter's dark blue eyes gazed down at Holly, almost shining as the realization of where this could go settled on him. Seventeen years of being with this girl and looking into those eyes now with the situation as it was brought forth all those feelings he had kept inside all that time. He didn't. He didn't, he didn't, he didn't. How many times had he denied that to their friends and family? Of all the times someone had brought to question his feelings about her, he had always denied it. It wasn't time to let them be known and he didn't know if they were returned. He would probably keep denying it too unless something drastic happened. That something, though, was upon them. Could he really say there wasn't anything there on her end with the way she was looking at him and acting right now? That was why he prayed he wasn't misreading the signals as he lowered the glass, bracing one hand on the picnic blanket as he leaned forward and closed his eyes as his lips pressed against hers. It was a chaste kiss, and he could taste the tea on her mouth. It was happening. He had really gotten the guts up to kiss her. There was no turning back now. He pulled back slowly. "... It's sweet."★ holly, open ★ guess what, we've never gotten this far before.

... Holly could have burst into a squeal of pure delight and rolled around on the ground like a child right then and there and not feel an ounce of regret for it. Instead, she pushed herself back and stared at him for a good few seconds, trying to wrap her head around what had just happened. Her cheeks were burning so hard they might have ignited into fire. Her mind felt like it was reeling back from someone punching it hard enough to spin. Even her lips seemed to tingle in response. Still looking at him, her mouth opened and closed like she wanted to say something, but couldn't think of the proper words. It had been so delicate and swift that she hadn't even had time to close her eyes. It had been so perfect for her first kiss ever. But that only pushed her forward. From her stage of speechlessness, Holly quickly reached out her arms to wrap them around the back of his neck and pull him closer. The second kiss lasted a little longer, wanting the sensation to last on their lips. She wanted the feeling of pure bliss to cause her cheeks to go red all over again and her heart to race energetically. When she broke her lips away from his and loosened her arms just slightly, she nodded. "Y-Yeah... Still sweet..." She murmured, unable to break her eyes away from his. ★ yeah, you slowpoke

There it was. Just like that all the worry drained from his body, his shoulders slumping if relief. He couldn't help the infectious grin that threatened to spread across his features. He didn't ever try to stop it after a few seconds. There was no way he was going to be able to hold that back. The second kiss had been every bit as perfect as the first. She hadn't pulled away or flinched at his actions. When he pulled away and she had returned to close the distance once more before them, he knew he wasn't the only one that had been feeling the way he had. The action she had chosen to take was more reassuring than words would ever be. His arms reached out before she could pull away too far, wrapping one around her waste as the other pulled her to the ground. The position had them laying on the ground half off the blanket, but he didn't care. She was against him with their hair fanned out across the grass, and that whole time he didn't break eye contact "Hey." Wynter whispered in greeting, his voice above a whisper. It was as if he was seeing her for the time all over again. His smile only widened. "How long?"★ holly, open ★ not my fault she was in denial all the time

If they could stay in that embrace for forever, Holly wouldn't have minded that a single bit. With their arms entangling the other and their bodies against one another, the warmth radiated between them. After years of that annoying empty space between the two of them, no matter how small it was, it was finally closed. With her fingers gently trapping themselves in his hair and his arm pressing her nearer to him, she couldn't think of any other way for that moment to have been spent. His smile, contagious, tugged a grin at her lips. Her face brightened significantly, more confidence than she had when she had started teasing him. As she gazed up at Wynter, she couldn't help but realize how bad she had wanted this. And with his question, it was only a matter of a few seconds to remember how long it had been for. "Three. Almost four years now," she replied, only breaking eye contact then to close her eyes in thought. "I remember because it was on your birthday. You didn't tease me that year with the threat that you would kiss me if we stood under a mistletoe at the same time. I was mad at you for it, but I didn't understand why I was. I told Briar and she teased me for being jealous."A carefree laugh left her lips, unable to hold it back. "Gosh, I don't know. Maybe I always had a small thought like that, though." If there were any worries from before about making her feelings present, she definitely didn't show any of them or she simply didn't think about any of them. When her blue gaze landed on his once again, Holly's brow quirked up in question as she smirked playfully. "Or perhaps you were asking how long you want our next kiss to be?"★ hey hey, he was in denial too!

"I bet she did. That sounds like her." When she had moved there, the beastwoman had added a spice to their life that hadn't been there before. It definitely made things more interesting. He had been teased his share of times too. His eyes frosted over in thought as Holly's own closed. He remembered that winter. He had been seventeen at the time and the years before that had been spent jokingly threatening Holly every time she accidentally stood under the mistletoe with him. He would chase her around with the threat and call her Mistletoe, but that year had been different. That's when the implications of what it really meant to kiss her had begun sinking in, and being a teenager at the time he had shied away from it. "I remember." His voice came out as a breathless whisper. His smile didn't leave his face as his eyes refocused back on her, bringing a hand up to run playfully down the braided section of her hair. How had they not noticed the signs? Had they really never given the other anything else to go off of aside from the playful jokes and teasing? His expression softened seriously. "I think I always have..."★ holly, open ★ okay less worry can post okay now

It was the silent, impatient waiting that always caught Holly off guard, but as Wynter took his time to speak gently, she found herself not bothered by the absence of talking. It was like lighting a fire when it wasn't too cold out yet. You knew the heat would find you before the chill ever could and it was more for a time of relaxing than it was for long seconds of waiting for the embers to set the pit ablaze. Holly could get used to this reassuring flame. It was a weird thought, having him so close. He was an adult and she was barely so. Though they had known each other their whole life, Holly couldn't place this exact Wynter at this exact moment. She wanted to keep in this embrace, to keep this same breeze flowing over them, to keep the sun in the sky in precisely the same position, to keep thinking that he could and would kiss her again... She wanted to take those thoughts and grasp onto them tightly, ensuring that she would never let them go. "Then I wish I hadn't kept telling myself it would be a bad idea to tell you anything," she murmured in an embarrassed tone, cheeks stained pink. It didn't matter now, however. They had spent the same amount of time together and it was a clean consensus that brought them to both take a step forward that day. "This makes me so happy. That... That sounds really pathetic and cheesy, but I don't really know what else to say without it sounding worse," Holly laughed softly. ★ post post

Everything just seemed to fall into place. How much time had they wasted? Dancing around each other, keeping things to themselves. It was funny how neither of them had noticed. There had been teasing, but maybe it was just because they hadn't been ready. Now their worlds were colliding more than they had already been. "I'll take the pathetic and cheesy any day." Wynter grinned as he pushed himself up. Leaning on his elbow, he looked down at her. He briefly wondered how far this would take them from now on, but that seemed so far away for the time being. They had plenty of time to get there. "Especially when I can agree perfectly with it."Soon the sky would start to brighten with the sunset, but for now just staying in the grass was perfect. It gave their little outing more meaning. They'd move on soon enough back to the boat, but keeping this time suspended was what mattered. A tug was given to the braid. Not hard enough to hurt, but just enough to get her attention. "To think we have a glass of sweet tea to thank for this." ★ holly, open ★ all the rambling

She laughed as her hair was tugged on, reaching up to return the favor with his. Even if this day had proven the mutual agreement they felt for each other, that didn't mean that when he did something, she wasn't going to get him back. If anything, this meant that they were going to have be more creative with how they did it. Everything about this step forward made a tingling excitement start in her mind. "A glass of sweet tea... No, I don't think I would have ever believed that that would be the thing to make you kiss me," Holly shook her head, switching from tugging on a few strands of his hair to running her fingers gently through it. Had it always been this soft when she went to mess it up in the past? When did he start looking like someone she could entrust her whole life to and not feel afraid that he would betray it? Closing her eyes and tilting her head, her hand found his, entwining her fingers with his. Yes, if she could stay like that for a little while longer, then, surely, she wouldn't have anything to worry about. And as the afternoon dragged into evening, Holly's day happily danced in content with Wynter by her side. Even when their personalities didn't change, Holly knew that their lives wouldn't be going back to the way they had always been. ★ the end
