"Come on, Holly, I'll take you out today!" The morning had begun as usual. Early chores and helping the guests had been done until Fayt had to be at the blacksmith's, leaving both himself and Holly with little to do with the remainder of the afternoon. A plan had formed in his mind when contemplating, and he had realized how long it had been since he had last taken Holly out on the small canoe that had been fashioned the summer before. On this afternoon the air was cool and crisp, the warmth of early spring tinging on his skin. Lunch had been gathered along the way and wrapped on the way down to the coast. It was a perfect day to continue their adventures down the Crystal Coast and into parts of Ilusia not easily accessed on foot. It would be a good time to spend just the two of them, though he hoped his nervousness wouldn't act up during the trip. Pulling the wooden canoe up onto the sandy shores of the beach, he held the end steady as the water lapped at his toes. "Go ahead and hop in. I've got a hold of it."The last time had been before the winter... Seeing how far they got today would be a nice chance, just the two of them. The thought made him smile as he waited for her to climb in. There was no hurry and the day was all theirs to do as they wished. ★ holly, open ★ time to get a thread with them going~

Holly always loved going down to the beach. Whether it was for writing or making sandcastles, by herself or with friends, she never passed up an opportunity to go to the shore. Wynter knew this. He knew that if he wanted to get her out of the inn then that was the easiest way to do so. Granted, it was getting less difficult to do so when he asked, but would she ever tell him that? Of course not, he would use that against her so quick that a cheetah would have been jealous. Putting on a white summer dress over her swimsuit, Holly clambered her way downstairs. She knew where Fayt was and was also aware that her parents and Theris could handle the inn while they were away, so she didn't feel bad leaving the inn. As soon as she was outside, Holly closed her eyes and breathed in the scent of the sea breeze. It was only a few moments later before she was hopping into the canoe like instructed by Wynter and sending a bright smile over her shoulder at him. "We can go farther than we did last time, right? You up for that, boat boy?" Holly teased, turned back around to find her oar and place the head in the water. Spinning it in her hands, she could feel the direction of the water as it pushed and pulled, begging them to enter the crystal blue waves. ★ so you made the sandwiches, wynter? good wife.

As soon as Holly stepped into the canoe, the excitement welled up within him. The water lapping at his legs only spurred that on, and his eyes met hers as she settled into the other end. His fingers curled around the front of the canoe. "Of course we can."With that, a strong push was given. He moved forward with the canoe as he pushed it, gliding it off the sand and into the water. As he did, in one smooth motion he kicked off from the beach, grabbing onto the oar, and slipping into place onto the closest seat as the canoe soared out into the water. Dipping the oar into the water, he guided them along just beyond the beach until the trees further down covered the canoe with their outstretched shadows as the edge of the forest followed along beside them. "What do you think? It's changed a bit since we've last been out." Keeping a steady rhythm with the oar, the deep blue of the ocean flowed around them as they floated down the coast. When he would switch sides with the oar, every now and then droplets of water would catch the glistening sun through the leaves of the trees, causing them to sparkle as they floated along. "How far do you think we'll get?"★ holly, open ★ of course, dear husband. it's not like I'm in love with you already

"Not too far if you keep asking the same question with a different wording," Holly teased, shaking her head. The oar in her hand was pushed through the water with strength and experiences. She remembered when the oars used to give her blisters and her arms ached from just a few minutes of paddling. They hadn't even been using the canoe the first time. It was always a strange miracle to see how far people came. She paused once, however, not in exhaustion. Holly took a moment to gaze down at the crystal water below them and take in the sights of the schools of fish swimming below them. A flurry of tropical fish and an eagle ray passed over her line of sight and, for the time, she was content with letting the ocean take the boat while her mind drifted off into the sea below. Short lived as Holly grabbed the oar once again to help Wynter along. "I missed days like this. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Fayt, but... Yeah, he's stupid. So are you, but I can handle one stupid easier than I can handle two." That hadn't been what she wanted to say. She felt like her mind had forgotten everything but her little sister talk. Smiling softly, Holly closed her eyes against another breeze. "Ignore me if I just fall off the boat. The waves are peaceful today and the thought of relaxing is nice."★ love? who needs love in relationships?

"Oh, ouch." So both of them were stupid. For some reason, even as she said that, as they rowed out across the vibrant blue coast, her smile negated the harshness that would normally be associated with those words. And it was okay. Without asking, he knew what she meant. They had been together for so long he would be ashamed if he couldn't tell that probably wasn't what she fully meant to say. There was plenty of time for the real words to come out at their own pace. He didn't mind waiting. Not for her. If he had to... well, waiting as long as it took didn't seem to bad. Some things were worth it. "Then I'll make sure not to bother you with my stupidity." The warm grin across his face gave away his thoughts. Playing along with her words, he stuck the oar straight down to connect with the soft sand that coated the ocean bed. The canoe swerved smoothly, and he lifted the oar back up as the canoe glided into the curve the coast had taken as if the boat itself was a part of the water. "If you fell in, you wouldn't be able to see this." The canoe drifted up onto the wooded part of the coast they had found themselves on. Climbing out, Wynter held it steady, offering his outstretched hand out to Holly. "Come on."★ holly, open ★ holly magically pulls two oars out of one <3;

"No, please do. It makes me feel smarter," Holly laughed lightly, grabbing a handful of hair and waving it around. "See this? I need all the help I can get to look smarter!" She dropped the hair, letting it flow down effortlessly back into place as she chuckled, knowing full well that Wynter would have made the point sometime or later. It would be easy to catch it before it was thrown at her. As the canoe coasted into shore, Holly placed the oar in the boat and left her shoes behind to step out of the boat. She took Wynter's hand in the process and it was hard not to keep the smile from her face. With the location and beautiful day, it was hard not to think that they had been swept away into a dream. The sensation of waves lapping at their ankles, however, betrayed the thought. After a moment past what was normal to be holding someone's hand who was just helping her out of a canoe, Holly released and took a few steps closer to the forest so Wynter couldn't see the definite pink that appeared on her cheeks. "So, where are you planning on taking me, captain?" She called over, covering up her initial reaction of walking away quickly by glancing around at the trees. ★ wooden shore. that is all

How many times had he held her hand in the past? There had been countless time they had growing up. As children they often held hands while playing, walking to the school house, or sharing secrets like most kids do. While he honestly couldn't remember every time, he could still remember most, and he wouldn't forget. Now, though, it was different. A lot of it was the same and they were still good friends, there was a spark between their skin that hadn't been there before. A deeper meaning now existed, and he could honestly say the girl holding onto his hand was the only one who he would do anything for. For now, he could keep that to himself. "It's something I found the other day." Setting aside the now cold feeling left after their hands parted, Wynter led them through the Whispering Woods. Holding up branches and slipping through smaller trees, the sun glistening through the top canopy of leaves and making the sunlight sparkle along the ground, they continued until a clearing ahead was reached. Pulling back the last long blades of grass, Wynter stepped forward out into the flowering Memorial Garden, a monument to how far they had come. The trees behind where they had come from covered the secret little path leading back to the ocean. Smiling, he turned back to Holly, stepping aside to let her through. "What do you think of it? It was a lot faster than walking."★ holly, open ★ none for you, missy

Holly didn't want to let go of his hand. She cursed herself the second she did and he walked past her. He had allowed it to be so effortless for her to take his hand and then she could have just left it in his care. What would he think, though? Out of all of these years, he hadn't said a word for or against the matter and, sometimes, she just wished he would. On the other hand, she didn't want to know if he was against that. It would hurt too bad. Instead of being miserable about what could have happened if she hadn't have been stupid about the matter, Holly focused her attention on seeing where they were. What could Wynter have found? And without her? Well, he was taking her now, so she guessed that she could let him off the hook for this one. But if it wasn't as cool as he was making it out to be, then... The sight of Memorial Garden made a small smile spread across her face. If she didn't have the ocean, she was happy for the garden. Of all the places in Ilusia -- and there were many pretty places there --, Memorial Garden had to rank as number one behind the ocean. "Well, I mean, it looks a lot like Memorial Garden, but..." She giggled and placed herself in front of him, leaning her back against his chest. "No, it's perfect. Something like this... And it'll be our secret, right?" Holly hummed in content, closing her eyes, and swearing that this would make up for letting him go before, even as another soft pink shade rose to her cheeks. ★ D: holly will behave, i swear

"Of course. Just the two of us." The secret path leading down to the ocean had been something he had found entirely by accident. He had been getting a feel for the water again when he had happened across it, and as soon as he had laid his eyes on it he knew it was something he had to share with Holly. Their little excursions were common in the warmer season, yet he hadn't wanted to wait any longer to show her. As she leaned against him, he had to close his eyes to keep his heartbeat in check. The hand that had been free lifted, hesitating for only a moment before placing itself on her left shoulder and squeezing. With her against him as she was, he wouldn't be surprised if she could hear and feel the rapid pulse beneath his chest, but he hoped beyond hope that is wasn't as noticeable as it felt in his own ribcage. If she did feel it, would she point it out? Or would she ignore it, and brush it off? If only to keep the situation from turning awkward, he hoped she didn't feel it. "It's about lunch time. What do you say we break into this?" A grin spread out across his face as he held up the picnic basket he had packed in advance. He had grabbed it from the boat as they had left it, and he was sure the contents inside would be enjoyable. The garden was the perfect spot. His hand only left her shoulder after another squeeze, one he hoped didn't linger for too long. Reaching into the basket as he walked, Wynter pulled out a sky blue and white checkered blanket. Laying it out along the grass amongst the flowers and and under the sunshine that shone down through the trees, it was spread evenly before he sat down. The picnic lunch was set in the middle and opened. "So has the trip met your expectations so far?"★ holly, open ★ okay, I'll believe you

Something about that was more reassuring than anything could ever be. As Wynter spoke the words, Holly could already imagine them sneaking out to the their spot, hidden from those that entered Memorial Garden and from those that surveyed on the shore. In that moment, it was what she wanted. A world for only the two of them to escape to and no one could come close to intervening. A soft rhythm of beats were the only things to break her thoughts, until she realized she could tell the difference between her own heartbeats and Wynter's. He said nothing, so neither did she. Only when the squeeze to her shoulder came that she blinked in surprise, not daring to look over shoulder. There were so many words that came to her mind, so many questions. Did any of them come close to spilling from lips? Of course not. In the next fleeting second, he was asking about lunch and she had lost the opportunity to say anything at all. At his question, a tiny, coy smile tugged at the edges of her lips. She couldn't resist murmuring "no, not yet", though it was so quiet, she wouldn't have been surprised if the sound of the ocean drowned it out. In a more teasing tone, Holly laughed, "Well, that depends. What have you prepared for today's feast? And will you be feeding me? I'm sure you're all too fair at that." She ended up not being able to keep a straight face, shoulders shaking from trying to hold back the giggles. ★ or i guess she really doesn't have a choice. she might not behave in this situation.

"Oh, you're more than capable of feeding yourself!" Wynter's mood only picked up even more with the giggles that spilled out of Holly's lips. Shaking his head at her comment, he reached into the picnic basket, beginning to pull each item out and ay them on the blanket. "You're not five anymore, you know."A light spring salad with sausage made of soy done in a light marinade, sandwiches for each of them with melted fresh mozzarella cheese grilled vegetables, a side of chilled potato casserole, homemade macaroni and cheese with breadcrumbs, and a bowl of fruit to share with two slices of strawberry pie. A thermos of sweet tea was packed as well, with cups for the both of them. "So, what do you think? Was today worth it?" Grinning in cheerfulness, Wynter reached for one of the grilled sandwiches, resting his elbow on his knee as he sat cross-legged. He knew her preference for food, so he tried his best to incorporate that. ★ holly, open ★ took so long to hunt down images for each thing </3 can show in yim

Holly resisted the urge to roll her eyes and laugh. Okay, fine, he lost the chance to feed her. Loser. But she was pretty determined to freak him out in that day, so his five-year-old comment was well placed for her plan. "Oh, I'm quite aware of the fact that I'm not five. Pretty sure a five-year-old doesn't have these," Holly placed her hands under her chest and pushed her breasts up slightly before breaking down again and laughing. If it were anyone else, she would have felt incredibly embarrassed. She still did a little for Wynter, but they were at a point that trying to get back at one another meant doing just about anything. Just about were the pretty key words. After all, they weren't evil to each other. Just playfully mischievous. Holly shook her head, quirking an eyebrow at him as she sat down. "If I didn't know any better, I would say that you were just just trying to get me fat. This, sir, is way too much food for two people," she teased. Even so, the fair-haired girl started with one of the grilled sandwiches. A content 'mmm' left her lips. It was so nice to not have to cook all of this, though Holly was not quite used to being spoiled. Wynter was tricky to making this a surprise or she wouldn't have allowed him to do it all by himself. "It's great! It's just... Something's missing..." Holly let her voice die off, a smile still evident on her features. In the next few seconds of silence, her grin turned teasing and then settled into something more gentle. Another shake of the head was given and she chuckled softly, "Nah, never mind. I'm just musing." ★ so much food. too much food. ;~;

Sometimes they clashed, sometimes they saw eye to eye. Other times he knew exactly what she was going to do and when, and sometimes she knew the same for him. Yet there were still times when she did the complete opposite of what he thought she was going to do. This, this situation, was one of those times. It wasn't as if he knew that her body now was different than when they had been children. In fact, he knew very well just how different it had become. For her to go and physically point that out, though, was another matter. It wasn't as if he hadn't cracked his own jokes before, but this was a while other level entirely. "H-Holly...!" Despite his best efforts, and try he did, Wynter could do nothing to help the heat he felt rushing to his face. He was distinctively aware of exactly how warm his ears felt. He was instantly glad they had decided to go out alone on the boat, because if this had happened anywhere with Fayt nearby, he wasn't sure how this would go over either way. Looking away with a sputter, he used the brief moment of not looking at where she had emphasized to regain himself. As she continued, he blinked as she trailed off. That wasn't what he had expected. "What's missing? You can tell me."★ holly, open ★ she is so evil. so evil

To see such a reaction from Wynter was cute, because it showed how good of a person he was. Or how bad of a person she was to him. Either way, Holly knew that he wouldn't hurt her, at least not intentionally, and he would be respectful to her as not only a friend, but as a lady as well. His parents, the nice people they were, would be proud of him for what he did. Plus, she wanted to see how badly she could make him blush. But more seriously, perhaps it was because he was so kind to her that made her want to pester him more. A test of sorts! They typically got back at one another, but Wynter always knew where the line was, curiously, without fail. Even now with him probably able to exact revenge upon her in some way, he immediately went on to wonder what was wrong or speak to her gently. Holly could have told him right then and there. Every laugh, every smile, every outing, every little habit of his made her want more. The way he said her name, even if he meant nothing by it other than to get her attention, made it sound special. She squeezed her hands around the edges of her dress, trying hard not to look at him. Because if she looked at him, she would find those deep blue eyes staring right back at her. "Oh, I'm mistaken. You know me, I say stuff without thinking," she shook her head again, grinning at him. "Because... As long as I have you, nothing is missing, after all."★ blame briar for teaching her things

Right then and there, he made a promise to himself. As soon as he took over the inn, when he could fully say he had accomplished it, he would ask her to marry him. He had no idea what her reaction would be, but as they sat there in the sunshine on a private outing just for the two of them, he wanted it to continue. He would regret the moment they would have to pick up and return home later. Was it selfish to want to make it last permanently? He'd ask Fayt for permission first, of course, but he had been feeling this way for a while no matter for vehemently he tried to deny it. He had feelings for Holly Devanti. It was probably obvious to everyone by now. Yet he loved her still. He always had. Maybe that was why it felt right to shift his weight to move to sit beside her instead of across, their shoulders touching as he grinned back at her. The closeness was so natural, for a minute he forgot they were two separate people altogether. Something about the girl made that happen, and he didn't mind at all. "It's the same for me," he smiled back at her while simultaneously reaching for a piece of the fruit from the bowl. Holding up the piece of watermelon between his fingers, he held it out. "Open up. You'll get your wish just this one time."★ holly, open ★ you aren't the only one that can have internal monologues, holly
