ALDEBARAN BATES TWENTY EIGHT Autumn THE SCHOOL TEACHER | HOMOSEXUAL SIX FEET ZERO INCHES HUMAN Scorpio |
personality
At a glance, Al can be described as a strict individual with a contained emotional range. At best, he is calm and polite, and at worst he is stern and annoyed. There is little room for nonsense in his classroom, and a common complaint among the students is that he is too boring. For those truly interested in learning, however, he is reliably knowledgable and articulate in his speech.
Beneath the considerable patience and restraint is a man whose interest in the world comes and goes in sparks. Learning is his ongoing passion, coupled with an attraction to literature and poetry. Indulging in these pursuits allows his youth to show through, but otherwise, he is self-repressed and bitter, resigned to the life that he currently leads. At least, the latter is what he tells himself. There is no telling when one of those sparks might hit kindling.
history
The Heim takeover occurred when Aldebaran was roughly ten years old. That marked him old enough to remember it, and even to understand it. However, he was lucky to be born on the winning side, and therefore his life suffered no ill effects. As the heir to a relatively modest bottling company, it could be assumed that there were few illnesses in his childhood at all.
This was only half true. His father was traditional to an iron degree and raised his firstborn son accordingly. This led to the occasional conflict with his mother, who was a gentle, though somewhat peculiar woman. What both agreed on was that Al would inherit the business, as per custom. This plan seemed to go well until he was sent to private school, or perhaps until he reached adolescence. What happened during those years was difficult to determine, but in the end it was the aftershocks that broke the camel's back. Father and son disowned one another, and the son fled to Asgard.
Nothing in his escape went according to plan. Travel was hard and the destination was harder. In terms of the career he planned to occupy there, he managed to become a teacher at a school that was much smaller than the ones in Heim. Indeed, his status as a Heimite did him no favors in terms of trust, but his ability to educate proved its worth in the end. Several years of practice has found him in a stable existence, and he has come to feel at home in Asgard's modest community.
