Quincy is a hard person to understand. He’s very withdrawn and doesn’t like to open up to anyone or anything. He very much prefers to keep his emotions and problems in check and hidden away from any prying eyes and all people at an emotional arms-length. Although he was far less closed-off as a child, since the death of his father--the man he loved, respected, and adored above all others--he seems to be more of a swimming husk than an actual person. The burden of his father’s death weighs more heavily on him than he ever lets people know. Quincy’s very direct in all manners of things and hates beating around the bush, so he’s naturally very honest. In his downtime, when he allows himself the rare occasion, he likes to read and play a variety of instruments to unwind.

Having always been a studious person, Quincy tends to take things too seriously all the time and quite often grows irritated with people who have a far more relaxed view on life. It’s very hard to get under Quincy’s skin when all he does is wall people off, but once they’re there, it’s very easy for him to blow up in anger. He’ll immediately regret his unsightly actions later, but for the present he’ll have a temper fit for gods. Growing up with a hatred of all things un-ocean or un-merfolk related has also left him a bit narrow-minded and he’s far to stubborn to see things any other way. Friendship is also something of a foreign subject to him. He’s never really had friends before and the subject confuses him greatly and can also leave him easily flustered.

For growing up a single child in a royal family where everything was handed to him at his beck and call on a silver platter, Quincy believes he turned out to be a decent person. He was never a selfish or spoiled kid, in fact, he was quite the opposite. If one could even have called him a child. Quincy was always a very serious kid, absorbed by his studies, seemingly ignorant of his childhood. He was a brilliant student: smart, clever, politically gifted. Everything a prince should be. Because he spent most of his time alone, friends weren’t something of exact importance to him, although he was a far-cry from being socially awkward. He would ‘play’ with other children when his parents insisted, but most of the time, he ended up leaving them in favor of wandering off and exploring. It was perhaps the pastime that he enjoyed most, as he was able to use his knowledge to identify and recall facts about the things he found and experience them firsthand.

Although his curiosity about the lands above the water were not as great as some of the other children his age, he had to admit, it did hold a certain allure. The more times he wandered or snuck away, the closer he found himself getting to the surface. After a while, he began to surface regularly and explore closer to the shore. It was there one evening he met a child around his age. Now, as the child was one of the beastmen, they naturally bickered in the beginning, but the more times they met, the less they argued. One evening however, his father followed him. There’s much about that day that Quincy doesn’t remember. One image he’ll never forget though is the one of his father being murdered by the beastmen. Even if his memory is spotty about that day, Quincy knows his father’s death was his fault, and he’s never forgiven himself for that.

After that day he quickly stopped being such an inquisitive kid and became very withdrawn. He no longer holds any curiosity for the surface and in fact has come to despise it; especially its inhabitants the beastmen that live there. He never saw the child he met again either. To the present he remains very reclusive and drowns himself in his studies to become a fit ruler and fill his father’s shoes while his mother sits the throne.
