The air of the night felt so different than it usually did. As darkness loomed over the sky and had painted Ilusia black with the evening sky, something had felt wrong. From the moment she had stepped out of her small rented shop and into the park of her way home, she had felt it. The eery green glow of the moon did nothing to calm her heightened nerves. Something in the air around her felt oppressive, and it was one of the only times Briar Desiree ever cursed being a beastwoman for being able to feel it. The sense of danger tingling and pulling at her senses was not one she ever welcomed, and turning it off would have been much more preferable. Something felt wrong. The storm itself felt wrong. Somehow, it did. The storm was violent as she ran, wind wrapped around her frame. Her hair whipped around her, and her ears were flattened to the sides of her head. The howl of the air around her only caused her to glare with a grimace, the cracks of lightning only causing pain to the sensitive appendages. Even as the lightning cracked, thunder roared, and rain fell heavily all around as if it was smacking into the earth itself, the unnerving green glow of the moon continued, further putting her on edge. The sight of the gazebo in the park only calmed her nerves slightly. It was small and would not last as a shelter for long, but the thought of a temporary one was enough to make up her mind. Running towards it, she slipped under the small roof. Bracing her hands against one of the wooden beams, she pressed herself to it, ears only flattening more as she willed the rain to stop as the thunder continued. "This is absolutely ridiculous..." Letting out a breath, she gazed around the park. It made her far too uneasy for her liking. ★ adell ★ first meeting in the midst of a storm

Being raised in a city did not do wonders for Adell's ability to detect shifts in weather, but even this seemed like something beyond a simple storm rolling in. What on earth could cause the moon to glow that colour...? Not having any way of finding out the answer, Adell darted for cover, abandoning his objective of acclimating to Ilusia in favour of avoiding becoming soaked utterly. Despite his haste, he was met with mixed results, and he was keenly aware of his clothes clinging to him. It was far from comfortable, and the combination of the eerily green moonlight and the blinding flashes of lightning wasn't doing much for his mood. But there was naught he could do about that. All he could do was try to wait it out. Failing that... he would just have to make another mad dash, this time for the inn. There must be some form a shelter around here; a large tree, a building or... a gazebo. Not the best with the howling wind driving rain into his face and eyes, but better than nothing. Adell changed direction, arriving at the gazebo at a dead sprint, before sliding to a stop. A moment was taken to catch his breath, and push rain and water-logged hair off of his face. "Damn. Some storm," Adell muttered to himself, trying to shake free some of the rain that had penetrated his jacket. No good; it was utterly drenched. He was far from warm, and he ran a very real risk of catching cold if he remained in these clothes, or without a warm hearth or fire. Still, what was he going to do? Set fire to the gazebo? Strip down in public? Not the best thought to have, even in jest, as he finally took stock of his surroundings, and finding that he was not, in fact, alone. After a moment of dumbly staring at the beastwoman, Adell attempted to recover his composure, standing up straighter, though his gaze did wander. It seemed impossible that she would not have noticed his thunderous approach; even without the distraction of thunder, he knew that a beastman's ears put any human's to shame. A breath was taken, and he hesitated. He felt the need to offer her something, considering the circumstances, but what did he have? If he had an umbrella or a dry coat, he wouldn't have been huddling beneath the gazebo in the first place. "Er. Good evening, miss." Okay, not the best performance. But Adell had done worse. A breath was taken, Adell using the opportunity to take a breath and sort out his thoughts. "Do you mind if I take shelter here as well? This storm caught me completely off-guard." He offered a self-depreciative smile, though he wasn't sure why he was asking permission. It was a public area, and he almost certainly was her social superior. But what was said was said, and the mouth tended to run faster than the brain. ★ briar desiree ★ best storm ever.

Even in the heavy sounds of the rainfall her ears picked up the disturbance in the natural fall of water. The sound of footsteps darting across the way had lingered on the edge of her senses, and her eyes instinctively turned toward the noise. She had taken in the sight of the young man run through the storm, caught up in his own thoughts as he too tried to escape the downpour they had both found themselves in. She regarded him almost impassively as he shook himself out, trying to get rid of some of the water that had completely soaked him through. Of course, in doing so, she had caught his entire display and the words that fell from his lips sparked a thought of bemusement, or the very opposite, but in the rain and storm as they were she had no desire to chase the thought. Instead she remained where she stood, unmoving until his eyes slowly raised, finally noticing that he was not alone and that he had, in fact, been caught. Her own gaze continued as he stared dumbly, trying to sort his thoughts, as she took in his rain-soaked form. "Some storm, it is. I'd hardly call this a good evening, though." Wrapping her arms around herself to keep the chill from her, Briar turned in her place against the pillar of the gazebo, though she did not leave it fully. Her eyes took in Adell once more, noticing he was not a familiar face at all. "It's not as if you need to ask my permission to be here, and if you did, in fact, know this storm was coming, then I'd have to wonder what you were up to."Unfamiliar faces, storms... she did know, however, that the gazebo that they had taken shelter in would not hold up for much longer if they wanted to avoid getting sick. ★ adell ★ always awkward in the beginning <3

It wasn't really the response Adell was expecting. It wasn't as though the beastwoman was being outwardly hostile or verbally abusive, but he was getting the feeling that he may be being teased. It may have simply been his imagination though, so he chose to try and ignore it. Still, he was hardly suave enough to take it in stride, and he found himself running his fingers through his soaked hair. "I just didn't want to intrude." It was a lame and wholly unnecessary explanation, and Adell almost kicked himself for saying it. What he could not choose to ignore, however, was the cold creeping into his body. With high winds and wet clothes, it wouldn't be long until his body temperature started to drop. He wasn't keen on the idea of running around on the rain-slick and unfamiliar streets in search of the inn, or another place that would lend them shelter, but he may not have much of a choice. The gazebo was hardly ideal. A sigh was suppressed, and he took a step towards the woman, so he would not have to raise his voice so much to be heard over the din surrounding them. "You're likely to catch cold if you remain out here. Do you know of anyplace nearby that could offer better shelter, miss..." Adell hesitated, knowing that he should not be making even implicit requests for her name. He hesitated, and hoped the brief stammering would be misinterpreted as a shiver from the cold. "Er. I'm Adell, by the way. Adell Windsor." Leaving off the 'lord' still seemed prudent. ★ briar desiree ★ adell is the best at awkward. black belt in awkward.

In light of the situation, she was relatively glad he stopped at the 'miss.' Once for politeness was allowed, even in the increasingly urgent situation they had found themselves in, but any more would have been an annoyance. With the ways things were, her current mood was already dampening, even though it was clearly an effort of politeness. "That makes two of us. Or are you discluding yourself in that simply out of prudence?" The beastwoman drew her arms tighter around herself as she spoke. The feeling of being soaked stayed in the back of her mind, ever present. "Briar Desiree. And actually, I do."A crack of thunder overhead let them know that, unfortunately and despite their wishes, the rain would not be letting up in the near future. The rain itself seemed to beginning to fall even harder, and Briar allowed herself a moment to stare out at the dark school in the distance. Of all the choices, and not knowing anyone currently living in the dorm, the options laid out for them seemed clear. Stepping out of the shelter of the gazebo and into the pouring rain, Briar cast a glance back at Adell as she paused. "Well, are you coming?"★ adell ★ triple black belt

She was hardly a meek person, and it took Adell a moment to actually react. He had no real reason to refuse, and being incapacitated by simple illness would be both embarrassing and potentially dangerous. "Ah. Right." Maybe it was a little odd to follow the woman's lead so readily, but it wasn't as though he had any reason to refuse, or a better idea in mind. Something with walls and a proper roof would be better than the gazebo that offered next to no shelter from the driving wind. He drew a breath before stepping into the driving rain, bracing himself against the surge of cold it brought with it. Not quite enough to suck the breath away, but this was no pleasant summer shower, to say the least. Haste was of the essence, but Adell would have to keep step behind Briar, not knowing where she was headed. With the wind, rain, and thunder, conversation wasn't exactly forthcoming. Better to just keep their heads down and get to a more stable and complete shelter. The building they eventually arrived at was not familiar to Adell, but, if he had to guess, he would say it was a school. He raised an eyebrow at that, but did not comment. If Briar knew this to be a good place to take shelter, he wasn't about to raise an objection. She didn't really look like a student, but Adell was no expert when it came to guessing ages, especially with people who ere not human. "Is the door locked, or...?" Adell didn't feel right about kicking in the door or forcing the lock, and continued to allow Briar to take the lead. ★ briar desiree ★ he trained for decades on top of mountains to master awkward.

Reaching the school didn't take much time. A brief reprieve from the rain was granted as they stood in front of the door under the outstretched roof, and Briar allowed herself to sigh as she squeezed out some of her hair and flicking it back over her shoulder. Not missing a moment, her hand reached out for the doorknob. "This is Ilusia, of course it isn't."The inside of the school was dark as the door opened to let them in. Hardwood floors spread throughout the building and the storm became muffled now inside of the much drier building. "That's much better." Relatively pleased they would now be somewhat dry for the rest of the storm, Briar squeezed what water she could from her completely wet clothes. Yet, unfortunately or not, all that did was make them cling to her. "It's been years since I have been in here, but I am willing to bet the inside has hardly changed." Stepping forward, her shoes echoing in the quiet space, she moved down the hall to the teacher's lounge. Inside was a small table and chairs, a fireplace, and a plush rug on the floor. There was a couch and seating as well. Putting her bag down heavily, she stalked over to the fireplace, reaching for the matches atop it and striking up the fire. "It's all still the same. Now, isn't this better, Adell?"★ adell ★ all that training and all it took was one word from her to come out

He supposed it made sense for doors to be left unlocked - or simply without locks - in a place like Ilusia. It didn't really seem like the best place to be a thief or burglar. He really was too much of a Heimite, too used to locked doors, padlocked gates, and patrolling guards. As his eyes adjusted to the dark, Adell averted his eyes from Briar, her state of dress not helping him reach a comfortable state of mind. In all honesty, Adell wasn't sure what to make of Briar. He could sense a little condescension, but it wasn't grating or annoying. If nothing else, the warmth of the fire was a definite reprieve. It would probably be a good idea to try and dry out his clothing, but that idea died swiftly with Briar in the state she was in.Thankfully, Briar managed to offer an easy out and change of subject. Adell positioned himself near the fire, but kept a respectable distance from Briar. "So, um, you went to school here?" A boring topic? Arguably. But it was a safe one, and there was no harm in making some small talk to pass the time until the storm blew over. Hopefully they wouldn't end up staying the night at the school, but it was entirely possible. ★ briar desiree ★ -

An interesting change in topic, but she didn't mind. For the moment her thoughts focused on getting out of the wet clothes that clung to her curves. For a moment she regarded Adell as she shifted about the room. He seemed like the shy type, so her next actions would come across as a shock if his mind didn't shut down completely. Still, he wasn't bad to look at. He wasn't the sort of boy she typically felt attraction to, with her choices of well off men that were definitely handsome. Her two male friends were a good example, yet that was off limits simply because that is what they were. She did have restraint in that matter. "I did, though my early years of schooling were done in Volos." Stepping out of her shoes, Briar turned her back to Adell as she proceeded to strip out of the shirt she wore with her skirt. Pushing her hair over her shoulder, she glanced back at him. "You're not going to stay in those wet clothes all night, are you?" Stripping out of her shirt as well, since when it boiled down to it, was no different than walking around in her bikini save for a bit more lace. Kneeling down, she dug through a box of miscellaneous items kept underneath the small counter near the front of the room. It contained several items from clothes to toys that had been left and never claimed. After digging for a few moments and finding the only article that would fit was an oversized t-shirt, she took it out and slipped it on. "Getting sick now would only negate our point in coming here in the first place, so you may as well." Another shirt and a pair of male pants were held out to Adell, and she moved to sit on the couch near the fire, ★ adell ★ here mr. noble boy, have a shock

That was... well. Modesty and propriety caused Adell to turn his back quickly, but it was still something of a shock. Sure, he knew that staying in these clothes was a bad idea, even a dangerous one. But to not even give a warning or to go to a different room, or, well, something was a surprise. Was it merely a cultural thing, or was Briar just that comfortable around other people, even men? There was also the possibility that he was simply too touchy on the subject, but that hardly seemed likely. If nothing else, at least his face didn't feel cold anymore. At least when he was addressed again, Briar was slightly more dressed, but it wasn't helping matters much. Adell could feel that his face was flushed. The clothes were taken a little reluctantly, and Adell did not relish the prospect of getting changed in front of her. Still, calling attention to it may be just as bad. A deep breath was taken, and Adell positioned himself as best he could out of Briar's direct line of sight. Getting changed quickly was the definite priority, and feeling how heavy his clothing was proved a good reminder as to why he was even doing this in the first place. Hypothermia was no laughing matter. Eventually, Adell took a seat closer to the fire, shifting in the unfamiliar but dry clothing. At least the shifting flames were an easier thing to stare at, as Adell couldn't help but feel the matter was turning into something somehow scandalous. He was instantly grateful that his family would likely never hear of this, and Lycoris and Xara were elsewhere. Adell opened his mouth to say something, then reconsidered. He had thought he had an out to avoid these awkward silences, but his mind was not forming much in the way of coherent thoughts. Another breath was taken to try and settle his nerves, and he tried again. "S-So, um..." It was as though he had never been taught diction or oration. Adell cursed his sudden inability to form coherent sentences. "You've lived in Ilusia your whole life?" It was boring, repetitive and predictable. But Adell honestly couldn't think of anything better to say. ★ briar desiree ★ -

The cackling of the fire created a warmth that radiated throughout the room, warming chilled skin and frying damp hair. Adell was allowed his privacy as he changed, and Briar sat upon the small couch. Her fingers worked through the tangles in her warm blonde hair and smoothed out the fur of her ears before working her to tail, ridding it of tangles as well. Articles of clothing were placed hanging on the mantle of the fireplace to dry. "Yes, I have, though it seems to me you haven't." The red in Adell's face was hard to miss, even against the glow of the fire. Even so she moved the pillows from the couch to where they sat on the ground, pulling the two blankets with her. "You are one of them, aren't you? One of the ones that arrived just recently."The beastwoman's eyes lidded slightly as she spoke, the orange of the fire turning her amber eyes to caramel. She stretched out along the plush carpet, pulling the blanket used for herself up to her waist as she crossed her arms to lay on her stomach. "I would recognize you if you weren't, and you seem far to unfamiliar with the area. That and your having trouble finding words to say." Her fingers came up to comb lightly at the fur of one of her ears, pulling the pillow closer. "That's fine, I can forgive you for now. As it is, it seems the storm will not be over until morning, so we may as well get some sleep."Come morning, their clothes would be dry. They would wake and get dressed, heading towards the front door of the school. There they would part, with her leaving first yet they would meet again. That much she was sure of. Until then, a small smirk curved her lips as she watched where Adell sat, though whether it was for him or herself was not clear. For now, sleep would claim them, until the storm's call ended. ★ adell ★ almost wrap up. it's been fun <3
