It happened so fast that she expected it to blow over quickly. For her experience with weather like this, it hit hard and ended within an hour after it started. Imagine her surprise when it continued from the time the moon rose well into the hours of night. Going out in a storm like this would be an errand only a fool would undertake, so the princess of Heim stayed in the inn like any sane person would. Apparently her bodyguard didn't possess that same sense. If he wanted to get soaked and sick, it was his choice. It would fall on Xara to play nursemaid and if he really wanted Xara to tend to him while he was stuck in bed, so be it. By midnight he probably made it back safely, but she didn't go to check. The hour was too late to disturb him. For awhile she debated going to Fayt's room to see if he was awake still, but admitting that the sound of thunder and flash of lightning had started to unnerve her made her tongue fell heavy. Strange how that worked - she had only been in Ilusia for a short period of time and yet she felt herself growing more and more comfortable with that man each day. He was rather nice and mostly polite, though he didn't have the proper manners that she was used to. Unlike her initial opinion on that matter, she was positive she could let it slide if he made some more of those eggs. The other two she associated the most with at the inn were still in unknown territory for her. Wynter Shea, Holly Devanti... observing the two of them made it obvious that there was something going on between the two of them. What it was, she didn't feel the need to try to discover, but it was worth being aware of at least. They both also radiated faintly with the hum of magic, with Holly's being stronger than Wynter's, and Fayt's as well. A candle would provide enough light for her kitchen for now. The moon produced eerie light as well, giving her enough of a glow with the two combined to prepare the snack she wanted to. Cereal and juice worked as well as anything else did on a night like this. Instead of moving to the dining room, she sat near the counter and stirred her spoon around in a counter clockwise notion, watching the cornflakes absorb the milk. A particularly nasty crash of thunder made her cringe. "It is going to be a rough night..."★ holly devanti ★ why hey there is a sudden storm this won't have any importance at all

Gods. Holly hated storms like this. It meant that she had to get up in the middle of the night, lock everything down, tie everything down, and then hope that someone else would wake up to take over the front desk. Holly worked swiftly to go about tying the back doors shut and making sure windows wouldn't swing open with the wind. This, of course, meant she had to go outside and secure objects down, so by the time she trudged inside, Holly was soaking wet. She circled around to the back of the inn and turned blinds open so she could have an eye out for whatever the storm thought it was doing. After some time at the inn, you got really good at telling what a storm was going to do, even in the night. Holly had a strong feeling this wouldn't turn into a hurricane, but she was going to keep her mind open for that. It wouldn't have been the first time for that, after all. Checking the front desk, Holly groaned, realizing that there wasn't anyone there. Guess that would be her job... She placed a bell at the desk in case anyone came in. There were still a few things she needed to do to prepare for a storm. ... Or that's what she kept telling herself until distraction came along. "Ah, good evening, princess. Sorry for the weather," Holly spoke mildly and she was glad for the dim light as her posture started off uncomfortable. Fayt seemed perfectly fine with talking to her, but Holly was still unsure how to go about it. Starting a war with Heim just for ticking off the princess would not be a good way to have things happen. "We offer earmuffs if the storm's too loud for you," Holly tried. And, hey, she finally got to use the idea she had brought up to mom and dad ages ago. ★ holly is not a fan of this

Holly's voice, while not as familiar as some others she could identify, wasn't easily forgotten. She glanced at the female with hair so light that it looked white some of the time, blinking a few times slowly at her. "No, the storm is not too loud. Thank you for the offer." Did those that work at the inn have to get up every time a storm waged outside like this? Closing windows, securing doors, and the like did take some time, she supposed. Such thoughts were rarely spared to the staff that worked at the castle back home. Being here in Ilusia and actually seeing some of those things did make her question the conditions some people had to deal with. "If I am to be honest, I enjoy the sound rain makes as it falls from the sky. The scent of the earth before and after rainfall is something that makes it all worth it. Thunder and lightning, on the other hand, I could do without, but they are just part of it all as well. If I were to complain about the presence of those two, then I would need to say farewell to the rain as well, and that is something that the world could not do without. Now, if the rain became acidic every time it fell, I doubt I would miss it all that much."Oh, she was rambling wasn't she? Yes, yes she was. Willing herself to relax, Lycoris looked down at her bowl of cereal, over at the cabinet she removed things from, and finally back down at her bowl. With a tiny smile, she held up her spoon and twirled it. "Would you care to join me for a late night snack? I rarely eat this sort of thing back home. Adding a few spoonfuls of sugar to it makes the cereal and the milk taste a lot better."★ holly devanti ★ she can deal with it c< fu fu fu...~

That was... an awful long speech about rain. Did she normally do that or was it rambling? Holly could relate to the latter; rambling on was something that she was fairly familiar with and both Fayt and Wynter knew that. For the time, Holly didn't say anything about how much had been said and optioned for a simple head nod. "Storms don't typically take on this strength this quickly. I mean, I've seen it happen before, so everyone at the inn knows what to do." It was good to give the customers reassurance, especially the people of the royal variety. It wasn't that she wanted to treat them any differently than the others, but it was hard to do with the idea of them running back and telling Heim that the Ilusians hadn't been up to par with the hospitality business. It had been an internal conflict that she hadn't wished to bring up with Wynter or with Fayt because they, more than likely, had more stress with all of this. "Would you like me to make something? I mean, it's not anything as special as cereal, but I make a pretty decent pancake," Smiling, she leaned closer and made a quick look around. Dropping her voice, she whispered, "I also know where Wynter hides his recipe for cinnamon-vanilla iced coffee and I've learned how to make it, so, if you want that, I can make that as well."★ coffee? coffee? yes?

Cereal wasn't necessarily good - it was merely acceptable some of the time since she rarely had it - so protesting against pancakes didn't cross her mind. Lycoris nodded her head, refraining from answering vocally due to the spoon currently popped in her mouth. She hummed gently around the utensil, her eyelids closing halfway so her eyelashes fluttered, and ended with a faint, content sigh. "I have never had iced coffee. If it is not too much trouble, I would enjoy trying it." Funny how only about a week of time away from Heim changed her. It was small in ways, not constant, and easy to slip into her habits, but she noticed it in herself. The way she didn't feel constantly judged help her relax a bit. Knowing that someone wasn't taking notes of the smallest thing she did wrong... it made her feel younger again. A normal childhood isn't something she enjoyed, so she made due with it. Even something as simple and small as sneaking out of a room late at night turned out to be a rare treat. If she wasn't careful, she would slip up when returning home and be scolded a great deal. "What is it like working here?" Her conversations with Fayt revealed tidbits of what it was like, helping to satisfy and prod her curiosity at the same time. "Is it something that you want to do for your entire life or do you have dreams that stretch beyond these walls? You appear to be around the age where that sort of thing is questioned." A slight pause, then a slight head tilt. "You are also around the age where suitors begin to make moves. Have you received any offerings?"★ holly devanti ★ mmm, coffee would be good right about now

Holly went about gathering the ingredients for pancakes, grabbing bananas, white chocolate, and hazelnuts to use for toppings on them and inside of them, as she always needed something to add with them. Along with the breakfast in the middle of the night, Holly rummaged for the recipe card labeled what she needed before finding the ingredients for that as well. Neither were hard too make and she managed something along the lines of "you're in for a treat" to reply as she worked. It was the onslaught of questions after that threw her a little off her kitchen game. In particular, the question about suitors was the one that messed her up the most. Holly had to bite her lip and breathe in to stop any swears from leaving as she had managed to burn her hand against the now-hot pan for the pancakes. She forced a smile through the pain and even tried a small laugh, though she was fairly certain it sounded too nervous to be normal. "Working at the inn is fun. You get to see a lot of new people and help some that need it. We like to get people back on their feet, get them straightened out. Plus, I always love the view, no matter where you look," She cast a glance down the hall and had to give a double-take. She could have swore she saw a green-ish glow. And she could definitely hear voices outside. Must have been Wynter or Fayt. Shaking her head, her attention was divided between Lycoris and the pancakes. "I'm not quite sure if this is what I want to do. I, um... Well, I've never had a definite dream about what I want to be. Fayt got the apprenticeship at the forge pretty quickly and Wynter has rights to own the inn, but I... I dunno. I'll think of something."Think of something, right. She always said that when she thought of the future. Holly glanced at the burn and frowned. "A-As for suitors... I... Well, no, I haven't had any suitors." She refrained from saying anything about Fayt probably threatening anyone who tried. That thought, at least, made her feel a bit better. It did get her thinking, however. It was time for all of them to get confessed to. Were there any girls Fayt or Wynter eyeing? Had they already made moves? Something about this just didn't feel right. "But I'm just an inn-keeper's daughter," She laughed. "As a princess, I'm sure you get a different suitor each day? What is it like? Being a princess."★ can't wait for the day of caffeine free coffee so i may have some c:

Working in an inn in Ilusia would not bring a person tons of earthly wealth and treasures. A person could not afford to buy whatever it was their heart desired with such an occupation, yet she could see the appeal in it for some people. Managing the schedule, taking care of the establishment, keeping patrons happy - such a thing could be said about any local business, in truth. Every bit of it added up to form a person's life. This one just served as work and home, which left a stronger impact. No, there would be no dreams of grandeur to come true. A feeling of belonging and of being home might just be a fair enough trade in it all. "I have had a number of suitors in recent years. None of them have been able to convince the queen that they are worthy of my hand. How I feel about a person is the least important thing in the matter." The way her voice remained even and light made it hard to tell whether or not this bothered her. By the way her facial expression didn't change, the former could be assumed. "When the queen has found a suitable man that she approves of for whatever reason, then I will do my duty and wed him. If she decides it, the crown will pass to me and I will rule over Heim. This is not the outcome I expect."Lycoris raised her fingertips to her mouth, pressing them against her bottom lip and looking over her wrist to watch Holly. "The queen... my mother, that is... is someone who would prefer to rule until her dying breath. She had me when she was young and is only eighteen years my elder. Unless tragedy strikes and she is harmed, I will not be queen for a very long time. This is something I have been prepared for in case something does happen." It was no secret that her mother had many enemies. One of those enemies might get lucky with an attempt. In the case of that, she would have to step up and take her place. But... no, those thoughts were not good to have. "The other day at the beach. You were using magic in the water, yes? I could sense it from where I stood. When did you begin to learn such a thing?"★ holly devanti ★ psst. it's called decaf, but that destroys the point of coffee OTL

"Ah, I see..." Holly couldn't seem to keep the soft disapproval from her voice. Something about someone overseeing her life for her didn't feel right. If she wanted to marry someone she loved, she should be able to do so. If she wanted to keep single for the rest of her life, then her parents should see that it was her life and that no one would be able to change that. To have someone to make decisions for you... Despite that, her and Lycoris came from very different lives. If she were raised with the mindset that Lycoris did, she could safely assume that her thoughts might have been swayed. Holly glanced over her shoulder, only to find nothing to read on the girl. It wasn't too long, anyway, before she was dishing out pancakes, heating up syrup, and pouring two cups of iced coffee. A cold drink was not something for a night like then, but the pancakes balanced it out. Holly was happy when the subject switched, though bringing it back to herself wasn't what she had intended. "Haha, yeah. I was just trying to mess with them," She chuckled lightly before taking a sip of her drink. It was only a small second of thought until Holly shook her head. "I don't quite remember when I started doing it. I remember that I would do it without even realizing I was-- I got really tired as a child because of that. I think... I've always had a little grasp on it." She had never really thought about it because no one had ever asked. Her parents, Wynter, and Fayt never questioned it. Soon enough, Wynter and Fayt were using magic too. Granted, she didn't remember them getting as tired as her. "But you said you sensed it? I've never heard anyone say that before. Do you use it as well?"★ but decaf tastes badddd

"One of the skills I learned in my youth is the ability to sense magic and the way it flows. It is stronger when people call upon an active spell. When you called upon magic in the ocean, the way it swirled around you caught my attention." Not a single word spoken was a lie. Was it the full truth? No, not at all, nor was it something besides the truth. Her ability to sense magic went far beyond that of a normal fae. Revealing that is what she was didn't feel necessary because of that. "Magical training is what the queen engaged me in since I was a child. My magical repertoire is expansive because of this. There are a handful of spells I can perform without any preparation, ceremony, or planning, which are the ones I call upon the most. The rank I am currently at is S. Despite there being no ranking above that, supposedly, one of my life goals is to expand on that." A tiny smile toyed with her lips as she took a bite of the pancake, followed immediately by a sip of the coffee. The way the flavors mingled between warm and cold created quite an interesting contrast. "Typically men are the ones who fight in wars. If something did happen and Heim needed to defend itself, then I would be one of the ones on the front lines as well, or so the queen has liked to remind me often. Whether or not that would be true when the time came is something I do not know." Funny how talking about suitors, the inn, and magic brought thoughts of war to her mind. Perhaps it was natural. "..." Looking down at her plate, Lycoris began to pick at it. Was it the storm that made her feel so chatty tonight? Possibly. "Many people judge everyone from Heim based on the decisions that the queen has made. That is something I have grown up knowing, but it did not sink in fully until coming here. Because of that, I want people to eventually be able to see me as me, and not just the offspring of the queen."★ holly devanti ★ decaf is okay if you have sugar and cream and add just a bit to it <3

If Holly didn't keep an open mind, she would have thought the princess to be bragging about her magic. It was likely that she wasn't. Her wording didn't make it seem that way. Plus, Holly was very curious how it was to live in a castle and how the lifestyle was different. If she had had proper teaching, would she be any better? Holly turned her mind to what else the princess had said. Lycoris was right, though. A lot of people from Heim got judged because of what had happened between Ilusia and them. It wasn't that they were even looking at the people, just the past, and they couldn't seem to get past that. Did Holly have resentment towards them? Of course. Why? Well... She was taught that way. Lycoris was probably taught that Heim was a strong, mighty nation, but the Devanti and Shea residences were given a different view. Unfortunately, what the princess wanted was not something that was easy. Holly wondered if it was even possible in some eyes. "Maybe bringing up the queen less could be a start?" Holly tried nervously. "I don't mean any offense, but reminding others of her might not help... I'm just speaking in a general sense for Ilusia. For myself, well... I don't like judging off the first swing of the bat." She took a sip of her coffee and looked back towards the window. Okay, now she knew she wasn't seeing things. Disregarding her conversation manners, the fair-haired girl took a few more steps to the window, eyes narrowed. "Green... That's not right," She muttered. Opening the blinds slightly allowed for a sickening color to envelope the room. Not silver or even orange. She had even seen a red moon once, but never green. A cold shiver went down her spine. "I'm sure it's nothing..." But even as she said it, Holly felt like it was the complete opposite. ★ fast post. quick post. this is a sucky post.

Bring the queen up less. Something about the way Holly phrased it almost caused Lycoris to snicker. Yes, trying to do that would be a start. It wouldn't be an easy start, but it would still be a start. "The air is ominous with this storm. Couple that with the color of the moon... it would be best to retire for the night. By morning it will be gone." The way it hung there made it feel like it was watching. During other times a comforting feeling would come from viewing the lunar cycle. Tonight, though... the color definitely made it off putting. "Thank you, Holly." Lycoris paused at the door and turned back to look at the female. "I enjoyed speaking with you tonight. We should do it again in the near future." Spring brought plenty of opportunities with it. When the next arouse, then she would attempt to formulate a plan of her own. People at the inn appeared to have preference for the beach. That might be something to try. For now, getting some rest would do her good. ...but why was the moon such an eerie shade? In the next few days, that question would on her mind almost constantly. ★ holly devanti ★ quick post is fine cx gave me enough to wrap this up/prepare for next one, fu fu fu...~
