PURE FLAME
ADELL WINDSOR TWENTY WINTER THE NOBLE GUARDIAN | HETEROSEXUAL SIX FEET ONE INCH HUMAN SCORPIO |
personality
For the most part, Adell is far from being a complicated person. He treasures the simple things in life; family, friends, a good meal and a warm hearth. Similarly, he tends to be straightforward and honest to a fault, and even the most trusting sort would be able to see through any attempt at deception. Whilst a life in court has taught him restraint, it does not come easily to him, and it is quite easy to tell what Adell is feeling at any given time, be it anger, sadness or simple contentment. When the situation demands it, he can be quite formal and use the correct titles and forms of address, but he tends to speak bluntly and simply when he has no cause to fear reprisal. Being this open makes Adell easy to know, and know well, but also leaves himself vulnerable, as he tends to take what people to say to heart.
This straightforward nature does have the disadvantage of making Adell rather insensitive, and unable to pick up on subtle hints and emotional cues. He is comfortable with and proud of who he is, but has an unfortunate tendency to over-think matters, and is a tireless worrier, even when he knows it does neither him nor the situation any good. Adell is somewhat distrusting of strangers, particularly Ilusians, and values his inner circle of family and friends above virtually anything. This leads him to be fiercely protective and loyal towards those who have earned that distinction, but it is a very small inner circle indeed. That said, he is not snobbish enough to look every commoner or Ilusian down the nose; he may be aware that he is highborn, but he's grounded enough in reality to know that they are all people, at the end of the day.

history
The third child and second son of the current patriarch of the Windsors, Adell was never groomed for great success or ambition. The fact that he managed to grow as close to the princess of Heim as he did was more of an accident than intentional design, particularly since their divide in the social hierarchy made marriage unlikely. Adell remembers most of hid childhood fondly, making ample time for idle play, and as a collection of fond memories of bonding with his siblings and parents; something of a rarity amongst nobility. It became clear from a young age that Adell was no scholar, and he still has something of a fear of his unorthodox and intimidating tutor. Adell took to the sword well, however, and it wasn't long before he was being ushered down the martial path.
Practicing the sword became routine for Adell as a youth, and while no prodigy, it was clear he had some talent. To this day, a morning does not feel complete if he doesn't complete an hour-long drill with the blade. Being a number of years younger than either of his siblings, Adell became an uncle in his early teens, forever excluding him from any meaningful inheritance. For him, it was a relief; the life of a soldier may be inglorious and hard, but it was better and easier than dealing with the court and all its intrigues. Less of a relief was the family's slow drift apart, with the older children tending to spouses and families of their own, and his parents winding down towards their twilight years. It was time for Adell to start on his own journey into maturity. While he isn't married yet, it is clear that his mother has no intention of letting him stay that way.
As a young adult, Adell still hasn't settled on a steady hobby beyond the sword, but dabbles in reading, the violin, riding, and other 'stately' hobbies his parents encouraged him to pursue. The life of true soldiery continues to elude Adell as he has been tasked with safeguarding Princess Lycoris during her time in Ilusia. While he has his reservations about the visit, he has every intention of keeping his charge safe, even if it costs him his life, and his reason is not primarily based upon loyalty to the current queen.
