All This Time We got all these words, can't waste them on another. So I'm straight in a straight line running back to you. But you say I'm lucky to love something that loves me. But I'm torn as I could be. Wherever I roam, hear me say all this time we were waiting for each other.
Sometimes escaping from the familiar presences of her friends and family was necessary to keep her sanity in check. Cassandra enjoyed spending her time in the company of others, but right now that statement was false. Meridell was a beautiful village to behold. It reminded her of home very much and for that she was grateful. She did not wish for familiarity right now, though. No doubt Seth would be quite upset with her for running out into the woods without telling a single soul. A foolish decision that was not becoming of her. The forest provided her with more breathing room and the feeling of claustrophobia had left her as she flew through the foliage and greenery. All that could be seen was a pale blue ball of light before she settled wearily in a small clearing.
Cassandra transformed back into her true form as her wings dissipated from view. A sigh of relief escaped her as she sank to the ground and enjoyed the brief silence to clear her thoughts. She wondered what had sparked the feeling of anxiety that had caused her to flee the relative safety of Meridell. It was certainly no threat to her life, but all of a sudden she had felt like the walls of her bedroom were closing in on her and she could not breathe properly. Her chest still ached with the panic that was now only beginning to subside. Slim fingers twisted roughly into her golden hair as she tugged on it in frustration. Everything would be fine if she could simply catch her breath and regain her composure.
A shame that her heart was taking so long to slow down it’s frantic pace. Cassandra knew she had been trained better than this to keep her composure, but all of that had disappeared the moment she allowed her panic to rule her mind. At least she had gone beyond the borders of the village. She eased her fingers from her hair and gently combed through the tangles her tugging had caused. A few moments in her own company and she would be well again.

Things were not, perhaps, as uneventful in Ilusia as she thought they would be. The storm a few nights ago was certainly strange enough, though it was good that not too much was damaged. It didn't seem like the foul weather was here to stay, so it seemed like a good time to go out and take another shot at exploring Ilusia. Maybe one day soon, she'd go up to Volos, or out to Meridell. Though she should probably try and get a better feel for the protocol surrounding that. For now, skirting the edges of the forest would simply have to do. It was becoming something of a habit on her days off, but she had never really gotten out to the forest back in Romuda. Now that she was in a place where greenery was so nearby, it had become a great place to get out and stretch her legs, read some books, and generally get some solitude. She did like meeting new people, but it was a shock to go from her relatively cloistered home to a dorm, and a little true privacy went a long way. And, besides, quiet aside, the library had proven to be a good place to meet people. It had been long enough for Junko to make a fairly good mental map of the general area, and she wasn't too worried about getting lost in the fairly well-traveled forest. Still, she couldn't help but wonder if she had strayed too far in. If her mental map was right, she should be approaching the outskirts of Meridell, but with all of these trees... the worry that she had gotten herself had begun to set in. Changing direction might make matters worse, so Junko paid close attention to the position of the sun, and kept going in the same direction. If she saw Meridell, she could just turn on her heel and retrace her steps, and be back on the right track. Thankfully, there was still a fair bit of daylight to burn. It came as something of a surprise to see someone else out this far, though it was actually a wlcome sight. A person usually meant that she wasn't too far from civilization, or, at least, not far off the beaten track. Especially since the person looked less like a rugged explorer, and more like her; someone out for a stroll before the weather turned foul again, and before winter set in. "Ah, hello." Better to speak up than to watch in creepy silence. "Ano... Are we near Meridell? I am worried that I might be lost." She smiled, a little unsure, hoping she wasn't intruding too much. ★ cassandra ★ need a thread for her too, so weh. also weh.

Cassandra was grateful for the fact that she had not burst into tears in her panic to escape Meridell. Everything had been closing in on her, and now she was faced with the prospect of an arranged marriage. Why would her parents do this to her and her sister? They were only seventeen and had already been sent away without an explanation or a warning! Now she was supposed to smile and nod and go along with this farce of an engagement? Cassandra felt her panic begin to melt away as the anger began to settle within her. An arranged marriage was something she had been raised to expect, but she had believed she would have a decade or two before the topic would be formally broached. Now she had no choice in the matter. Her eyes shot up the moment she heard footsteps crunching along the grass. Cassandra’s expression of anger immediately melted away as if the emotion had never existed. Before her stood a female that appeared to be around her age. She appeared to be a human most likely, and she wondered why one had wandered so far out here. Cassandra had yet to encounter one within Meridell, since the village held mostly elves and faeries. Nevertheless, such a thing did not matter in the long run. Her lips curled into her most charming smile as the woman questioned whether she was close to Meridell. “Yes, you are. The village is close by behind me and I can lead you there, since this appears to be your first time visiting this part of the Whispering Woods.” Being along would have been preferable, but a distraction was the better choice over being left alone to her thoughts. It would be horribly impolite of her not to offer her help, anyway. “I am Cassandra. May I ask for your name, miss?”Tag: Junko~ Notes: A thread with Zaddie~

Relief was immediate on Junko's face, and she released a breath that she didn't know she was holding. "Oh, no, that is alright." Junko waved her hand before her face, politely refusing. "I was just worried that I had become lost." At this rate, she would be getting back to the dorm in the late evening, at best. Still somewhat worrying, but not anything too horrible. Just a lesson for another day. At the least, she had found someone polite and apparently quite friendly. Being this far out... Cassandra was probably an elf or faerie. That in itself was fairly interesting. Out of habit, she made a short bow, and smiled genuinely. "I am Junko Ishibashi. A pleasure to meet you, Cassandra." She did hope that her presence was not unwelcome, as the idea of hiking all the way back to Asgard was not overly appealing, at the moment. A moment passed, and Junko's hand came up to tug at her hair. There was always that moment of unsure fear whenever she met someone new and unfamiliar, but it wasn't something that had stopped Junko. Just another obstacle to come to terms with. "Do you want something to eat? I think I will sit down to have some food, so..." Bringing along some extra food had always proven to be a good idea in the past, and a shared meal was a good way to break the ice. Junko hoped that her smile and cheerful expression would convey the invitation in a non-hostile manner, but her understanding of Ilusian culture was still lacking, to say nothing of her lack of knowledge about Meridell. ★ cassandra ★ I don't even remember if we have ever threaded proper-good.

Cassandra viewed the woman before her with some amusement. Was it common for humans to go wandering through the woods? Then again, she was hardly one to speak. She wondered if any humans did live within Meridell. A curious thought, since she had yet to meet one within the village. It was very much possible, since the librarian that resided here was a beastman. Cassandra felt much curiosity at meeting the shorter lived races, because she had been surrounded by elves or faeries for much of her life. It would be rude of her make inquiries about such a thing, though. She took a deep breath before dusting herself off from her earlier, haphazard flight through the forest. Hopefully she did not resemble too sore of a sight. Maintaining appearances was something that had been ingrained into her since she could speak.
“A pleasure to meet you as well, Junko,” she replied with a curtsy of her own. Such etiquette was also quite hard to forget. Her lips curled into a kind smile when she noticed Junko’s nervously tugging on he hair. Meeting someone new could be a rather awkward situation, especially in the middle of the forest. Cassandra merely diverted her attention to straightening out her summer dress before the other woman asked her a question. Was she hungry? She hesitated for a moment, but she had not eaten any breakfast in her haste to escape the village. Perhaps it would be a good idea. It may settle her stomach from the anxiety that was now constantly within the back of her mind.
“If you do not mind. I forgot to get myself breakfast before I decided to wander the woods,” she admitted with a sheepish smile. Her footsteps were somewhat hesitant, but she walked forward to sit beside Junko. Cassandra had not wished for company, but the diversion would be a welcome one.

"I don't have much, but you are welcome." It was more a meal for one, but there was enough to share, at least. A somewhat clear patch was chosen, and a box retrieved from her bag. It was nothing extravagant, and rice with a small selection of vegetables and seafood would not be to everyone's tastes. But it was what Junko knew how to cook, and it was cheaper than eating out all the time. She should try to learn how to make a few Ilusian dishes, though. There must be someone willing to teach her. A spare set of chopsticks was offered to Cassandra, and Junko hesitated. "I'm sorry. I did not bring a fork or spoon. Is this alright?" For people used to stabbing and scooping up their food with metal utensils, learning how to use chopsticks could be something of a challenge, she thought. She had grown up with the things, so their use was effortless, but the same could not be said of most Ilusians. If she couldn't work them out, she supposed her fingers were really the only viable option. There wasn't really much Junko could do about that. Regardless, Junko herself was hungry, and, after clasping her hands together and murmuring the traditional word in Romudan, she took a sample of the rice and fish. At least the food had turned out. Maybe not fantastically, but it still tasted good, to her mind. ★ cassandra ★ Forever a late. Also short post is short.

Cassandra did not intend to eat too much of Junko’s meal, since doing so would be rather rude of her in her mind. Blue eyes watched with interest as the other woman pulled out a box from her bag to reveal of meal of cooked rice with vegetables and seafood. It was a dish different to what she was used to, but she had a faint inkling of where it was from. Her lessons of the differing countries of Aedonea could not be forgotten after years spent learning them. Was she from Romuda? Cassandra felt some excitement at the idea, because it would be rather interesting to learn of a differing country from a native. Her lips curled into a reassuring smile as the chopsticks were presented to her.
“Do not be sorry. I was taught how to use these as a child,” she replied. The chopsticks were settled between fingers in the correct manner. Cassandra watched with rapt interest as Junko murmured a word in what must have been Romudian before taking a bit of their shared lunch. A part of her wished to emulate the gesture, but she did not wish to make a nuisance of herself for using a gesture she may not understand. Instead, she waited for Junko to have her own pick of the meal before reaching with her chopsticks to grab a piece of seafood. It tasted quite nice and she wondered if Meridell had any such meals to choose from.
“This is quite a tasty meal. Is it a native dish of Romuda?” Cassandra peered at Junko with curious eyes after taking another bite. Being taught the differing cultures of other countries was not the same as experiencing it for herself. Even if it was through the stories of another.

"Ah, yes." Knowledge of Romuda did not seem to be overly common on Adonea, so Junko was a little surprise. And to know how to use chopsticks... there was a feeling that Cassandra was quite well learned, or at least cultured. "I don't know how to cook Adonean food, so I tend to make dishes like this." It felt weird not having rice for every meal, and it was nice to have something familiar every now and again. Something to stave off the homesickness, if nothing else. "I grew up on dishes like these. Fish and rice are both plentiful in Romuda. Thankfully, such things are not too uncommon here." It was a little bit of a shock to the system to have the amount of meat in her diet vastly increase, but she would adapt. One of the many things she was forced to get used to. Another mouthful was taken, and Junko offered a small smile. "You seem to know about Romuda. Have you ever been there?" It was as good a way as any to start off a conversation. If she had, it would be nice to find someone who at least could identify with some of the same things she did, even if the visit had only been brief, or a long time ago. "I've not met another Romudan, or someone who has been there, in my time in Ilusia." It was true that Romudans were, typically, a fairly isolated people in an isolated nation. So that wasn't surprising. Well, at least she could say this about Ilusia. She was meeting new people, which was a good thing. Maybe the novelties the land offered would wear off in time, but, for now, it was exciting to step out of her comfort zone. ★ cassandra ★ Always short.

Cassandra wondered what it would be like to grow up in Romuda. Learning the culture from a book would not have the same effect as actually living there. She only knew a few customs and dishes when her parents would have ambassadors or the like visiting to ensure the royal family would not have cause for embarrassment. She also admired their more traditional appearing clothing. The designs on some of the more elaborate kimonos were enchanting and were an art form in itself. “Oh, no, fish and rice taste rather lovely together. Perhaps it is not the most elaborate of dishes, but sometimes simplicity is better than ornate,” she replied with a slight smile. This certainly tasted better than what she had been eating as of late, since cooking was not a specialty of hers.
It would have been nice to have the chance to see Romuda. Being in Illusia was the first time she had ever left the safety of Avalon. “Sadly, no. My parents simply wished for me to have a broader understanding of the different cultures of Adonea. I would enjoy the chance to see Romuda one day, though.” Cassandra had always lived a rather sheltered life, and even in Meridell she was still relatively sheltered. The forest was familiar and welcome, but she wanted the chance to see more of Illusia. She had heard much about Asgard. There would certainly be much to see if she ever had the chance to travel there.
“What about you? Have you been in Illusia long?” It seemed that Junko had only traveled here recently. The customs of Adonea still appeared to be rather new to her, but Cassandra did not know for sure. Perhaps she simply preferred staying with her own customs than foreign ones. It was nice to have the chance to meet someone not from Meridell, though. A small glimpse into the outside world through someone else was more than she could have hoped for.

"I have not been here long. I came to Asgard to finish my schooling." As ever, it was an excuse, but Junko was learning quite a bit. Certainly different things than she would be learning back home, but it worked. "I learned most of my Common in Romuda, but I have to study here as well. It is not a very easy language. I think I have an understanding of it." Junko may speak slowly, and rather carefully, and the accent was near-impossible to miss, but at least that care and attention meant that she didn't make too many mistakes, of late. She had heard the same of Romudan, but at least the grammar made sense to her. Common was... well, incredibly different. "I think you should visit Romuda, if you have the chance. Visiting a country is a lot different than simply reading about it, or even speaking to a native." There were some things that one simply had to see and experience for themselves, and a full understanding of a foreign land could not be extracted out of a book, or stories. Junko offered a small smile with that, hoping that she would at least consider it. While she was no nationalist, Junko was still proud of her nation, and proud to be Romudan. Even if she wound up permanently emigrating from there, that would not change. "I will be finishing my education this year, but I am not entirely certain that I will return to live." That was all she could say. Ilusia had been a good place to be, but would she want to live here? It was a question she could not yet answer, but one that was worth considering. Junko paused, idly biting the end of her chopsticks. She wanted to word this carefully, and the care showed itself in her mannerisms and plodding pace of words. "Ano sa... You live in Meridell, right? Are you a faerie?" Hopefully, the care and fidgeting would show that she wasn't asking to be rude. She had heard that Meridell was mostly populated by elves and faeries, and she didn't see any pointed ears, so... An apologetic smile was offered, but Junko did not attempt to change the subject. ★ cassandra ★ stupid having tests everywhere this week.

Cassandra wondered at attending a public university with others her own age. It was a foreign aspect to her, since she had been tutored alongside her sister since she was a young girl. Socializing with those her own age was easy enough most of the time, but she could still feel somewhat awkward when presented with a situation she had never been in. “I have heard the same in regards to Romudan. It is easier to learn your native tongue than another, but your Common is quite good,” she reassured. There was certainly a light accent, but that did not hinder her speech at all. Romudan would certainly be an interesting language to learn, and one she hoped to look at when she had the time. Would the Meridell library have such books for the language?
It would be rather nice to have the chance to visit Romuda. The choice to do so was not her own, though. Cassandra would have to gain permission from her parents first, and she had little idea of how to do so. Letters were discouraged from her end, and she had heard little news as of late. “Yes, seeing a country for yourself is quite different than seeing it on a map, or simply reading about it.” Illusia had been different than what she had expected. It was similar enough to Avalon, but that did not make it the same. Both countries seemed to be experiencing some sort of discord, though. “Is there a particular subject you are studying?”
Cassandra took another piece of seafood before taking a bit of it. Blue eyes flickered back to Junko at the hesitation and anxiety in her body all of a sudden. Her head tilted and she smiled in slight amusement at the question. No, she did not have the ears of an elf, so what else was left? A few humans and beastman did live in Meridell, though. “Yes, I live in Meridell and I am a faerie. Was there something you wanted to know?”

Junko shook her head. "I am just finishing my general education. Though I do enjoy studying literature." It was a long process for her to read a book, longer than reading a Romudan piece, at least. Still, books and the stories they contained could always catch and hold Junko's attention. "Of course, I have to study grammar and the like more than my classmates."At least she hadn't made a fool of herself, or inadvertently caused insult. Best to be careful while still learning the ropes of Ilusian manners and expectations. Having mostly dealt with humans up to this point, it was a little bit jarring to suddenly be surrounded by beastmen, elves, and more. Not bad, but jarring. "Not in particular... I was just, well, curious. I have never met a faerie before." Not to her knowledge, anyway, but if they could hide their wings, and looked relatively human, how would she really know? A somewhat uneasy smile was offered, and Junko returned to eating for a moment. "What is Meridell, like? Is it much different from the rest of Ilusia?"★ Cassandra ★ Hnng, test the everything.

Literature was always interesting to study. There was always a way to interpret a certain passage, or applying a personal experience to a passage to make sense of it. Cassandra certainly enjoyed reading when she wanted a quiet atmosphere or to relax. “Learning a new language can take time, but you seem to be picking it up quickly. Grammar can be difficult even for a native speaker. The endless amount of rules are dizzying,” she replied with a light giggle. Learning Common to speak was easy enough, but the grammar rules had often left her with a headache. Cassandra was unsure if she remembered all of them, and her tutor had often tried to burn it into her mind for the rest of her days.
Cassandra wondered if Romuda held a large population of elves, faeries, or even beastmen. It seemed to not be so, since Junko appeared a little out of place. Meridell would be the opposite, since the village encompassed mostly elves and faeries. She wondered what it would be like for a human or a beastman to live around beings that could live for centuries. It seemed to be a rather scary thought, since neither elves or faeries changed all that much once they reached maturity. A human would age within a few decades while she would remain the same for a couple centuries at the very least.
“In truth, I have not met many humans, if that makes it easier for you.” Her life had been rather sheltered for the most part. Cassandra had been given free reign to run through the gardens and forest surrounding her home, but she had always had someone keeping a close watch on her. Being in Meridell was still somewhat sheltered, but there was a freedom to do as she wished without servant or guards to report to her parents on what she did. “I cannot say, since I have not seen much of Illusia beyond Meridell. It is a quiet and peaceful village where change is slow in coming, but I enjoy the solitude.”

"Oh, um, sorry, I just assumed you were from Meridell." She had asked the question, and, in her defense, the answer given had been fairly vague. Her mistake or no, Junko still felt quite justified in it. "Ilusia seems to be a quiet and peaceful place. Outside of Meridell also. It is hard to believe it was invaded so recently." It would likely a be a touchy subject with many of the older locals, but if Cassandra was new to the country, it seemed unlikely that she'd take much offense at it. Even if she did, it was easy enough to offer yet another apology. At least she was good at that. "It is certainly a more... ah..." Junko bit her lip, the gap between her listening and speaking ability coming to the fore. Her brow furrowed as she paused, clearly working something out. "Soli...tary than Romuda." A bit awkward, the questioning tone the statement took on not helping matters anyway. "But that is probably because of how I lived in Romuda. My father is a merchant, so there was always business to take care of." Even if his father was the merchant, there were always clients, trading partners and old friends that came with it. That, combined with a habit of meeting traveling merchants, domestic and international alike. "A slower pace is good. It is something I could become used to." Junko nodded in agreement with herself, and finished her half of the meal. "If you are not from Meridell... are you from Avalon, Cassandra?" She tilted her head slightly, managing not to sound overly timid, as she did before. ★ Cassandra ★ I can't wait for exams to be over. Until then, studystudy. Cassandra tilted her head to the side, wondering if she had phrased her answer the wrong way. Her statement had been vague, but she honestly did not know much about Illusia beyond the borders of the Whispering Woods. There were also other reasons why she would no reveal much about her past. Telling strangers that she was a hiding princess would hardly go over well, and she had been warned by her parents to keep a low profile. Cassandra still did not know the reasons for why her twin and herself had been sent away, but she would follow their instructions. “It is easy to invade a country when there is no warning for such a thing. Under the cover of night where no one will see it coming,” she mused sadly.
She fought the urge to smile at Junko sounded out the word ‘solitary.’ It was rather endearing to see, and she was doing well in speaking the language. Cassandra wondered how each country was different from one another. More than just the shape of the land or the appearances of the people. Cultures and language were what set countries apart more than the landscape, though that certainly shaped a people as well. She listened as Junko explained what her own father did for a living, and she struggled to think of some excuse for her own parents if the inquiry came up. Perhaps admitting she was a noble of some sort or from a high middle class family would work, since she doubted too many families were taught the cultures of other countries.
“Yes, I am from Avalon. I’m here on vacation for awhile. My parents sent me here while they sort out some business matters of their own. I do not mind staying here, though. I welcome the freedom,” Cassandra answered with a small smile. Hopefully that would suffice, since she really could not reveal too much about herself.
