WORK, ROOM, AND BOARD
As much as we would love it, living is not something that comes free. Except for those very, very few who are lucky enough to have someone who takes care of them, you have to work if you want a roof over your head or food in your belly. Luckily, there are many opportunities for employment all across Ilusia, from the standard shopkeeper jobs to the more... eclectic. Jobs are paid for rank, from Rank 1 (apprenticeship) to Rank 5 (boss/owner). You can work Ranks 1 and 2 part time, if you're between the ages of 16 and 18, but remember that part time jobs make half what full time jobs do.
Rank 1: 20 gold/week
Rank 2: 40 gold/week
Rank 3: 60 gold/week
Rank 4: 80 gold/week
Rank 5: 100 gold/week + free room, if owning a building
What does the above mean? Well, if you make your way up to the owner of a store or business, it comes with an apartment, so you no longer have to worry about paying rent, but it is not easy to work your way up there and not everyone will be able to own a shop. Everyone starts at Job Rank 1 unless their canon role dictates otherwise or you have a good IC reason. A good IC reason would be if it's something your character has been doing for several years at the same establishment, or if your character is one of the older races and has been alive for a long time. If you are not playing a canon role but want a character to start as a store owner, PM a staff member with a convincing argument. The same goes for a character living on a stipend. Your character will be paid every real-life Saturday, CST.
Also, remember that steady jobs are not the only way to make money. They're just the most certain and the most steady. You can get money from events, quests, celebrations, or perhaps as a gift; you can also get items this way.
Now, what will you do with this money? Well, obviously, you use it to buy things such as food, clothing, gifts, and the like... as well as paying for wherever it is you live! If your character does not have a job or a place to live, it will be assumed that they are sleeping outside; if you are not actually posting threads hunting for food under these circumstances, it will be assumed that they are starving. Your character will suffer ill effects for living outside and not eating, and these effects will be staff-imposed.
General food costs, per character, are 20 gold/month, or 5 gold/week, taken out of their gold total the first day of every real-life month (because it's just assumed that they're eating and no you don't actually have to go grocery shopping unless you want to). Everything must either be bought or foraged. Don't forget, you will have other expenses beyond room and board, so keep that in mind. Well, unless you don't plan to buy any items at all.
You have a large choice of places to live, as well, ranging from simple and cheap to luxurious and expensive. All travelers, without exception, start out staying at an inn. Other characters may choose housing dependent on their role and their job rank, just make sure it's something they can afford. If they can't pay rent each month, they will be evicted. Keep that in mind.
School Dormitories: Only available to students under the age of 18. On the plus side, they're free room and board, so they're pretty ideal if you don't want to work or only have a part time job.
Inns: At 15 gold/month for a rented bedroom, these are definitely the most affordable housing options. However, inns are temporary unless you happen to work there or have a very good reason for not going and getting, you know, a real house. You can also be thrown out of an inn at any time. Keep in mind that inns have a limited capacity, as well, so don't plan to live there permanently.
Boarding Houses: Boarding houses are 25 gold/month, but they offer more privacy than inns. They are single bedroom affairs with a kitchenette and a living area... and that's about it. At least you have the freedom to make your own meals, but you still have to share the place with other people, as well as community bathrooms.
Apartments: Generally located above stores, apartments generally have two bedrooms, a kitchen and dining area, a single bathroom, and a living area. Those who own the stores can live here for free, but if they choose to live in a home, they can rent the apartment out for 35 gold/month (the apartment fee will be paid to the store owner).
Single-Story House: At 75 gold/month, houses are a large jump upwards in price. However, they come with two bedrooms as well as a full bathroom and a half bathroom, so with a roommate to share the price, it's much more reasonable... if you can find someone you want to live with. They come with the same things as apartments, though they also have yards, porches, and actual room for storage.
Two-Story House: 150 gold/month is more than a lot of people can afford on their own, but if you can find someone to split the bill with, they're worth it. These houses come with four bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a separate dining room, and the same perks as a single-story house. You could also rent out the bedrooms you aren't using, for a price.
Mansion: When the price tag is 500 gold/month... well, extravagance comes with a price, and there's a reason there aren't a lot of people living in these. With three floors, five bedrooms, three full bathrooms and one half bathroom, a giant kitchen, a formal and informal dining room, receiving room, living room, private pool and garden... comfort is definitely number one here.
Rent, as well, will be taken out of your character's total gold the first day of every real-life month. Post in this thread with each individual character, filling out the code below. If you do not post in this thread, it will be assumed your character has no job and lives outside and is a starving hobo, and will have negative effects applied accordingly.
Special Note: Merpeople do not need jobs or housing as long as they are living underwater, because, you know, they're underwater and things are different and... ...yeah. They do, however, need jobs and housing if they move up to the surface. Basically, if you don't want your merperson to be limited to the beach and underwater, they need a job and a house.
Job: What does your character do? Try not to repeat jobs, unless you work
freelance or something like that. Check to see which jobs are linked to canon
roles, please. It is perfectly acceptable to start out working with just the
quest board and get a different job later.
Job Rank: 1 through 5.
Part time or full time: Students are allowed only part-time jobs. Your
character must be under the age of 18 to take a part-time job, except under
certain circumstances.
Housing: What kind of housing do they live in?
Roommates: List your roommates here. You are only allowed to have a
roommate in housing with more than one bedroom, unless the characters are sleeping
in the same bed.
