So, back to business. Adell suppressed a sigh, mentally kicking himself. There was that sinking feeling that he had misspoken somewhere, and caused Lycoris to withdraw back into her shell. Sensing the shift in mood, Adell rose as well, his posture far less relaxed than it was a moment ago.
"We haven't encountered much in the way of dangerous elements in Ilusia, but that does not mean that they are not present." Adell spoke carefully, trying to avoid eliciting another negative response. "However, splitting up may be the only way to gather useful information. If you believe it is for the best, all I will say is that you must be cautious." Would it be better for Adell to put his foot down, and say that he should be present at all times? Perhaps, and it was still an option. "I will learn what I can. If I have reason to believe that you will be put into danger, I will accompany you." Had Lycoris not have been a remarkably skilled mage, Adell would have voiced much more serious objections. But she was no fool, and her title alone would keep her safe in most any public place. Still, a little caution could prevent knives from finding her back. If the elves or beastmen had a reputation of being extremely territorial, even a single bodyguard was better than nothing. If nothing else, he could catch an arrow for her.
"It does seem unlikely that the remnants of the royal family would have been able to hide out in either Volos or Meridell, but it is possible. After all, no place better to hide than where no-one thinks to look." Adell was clearly not speaking from experience, but from idle conjecture. If he were a thief-catcher, or anyone remotely qualified for this task, he would sound less unsure. As it stood, he was out of his element. He had been trained to conduct himself, and, basically, to fight and kill. Finding people or seeking out information were nowhere near his forte.
"They're not exactly famed for being overly welcoming to humans, but if Briar was willing... it could be helpful." Would he be able to write off visiting Volos as something stemming from idle curiosity? Only time would truly tell.

★ Lycoris
★ Not if he was just a head, then you kept the zombie-Aion head in a glass case. I'd put that on my mantle.
