Talk of strange things and festival (open)

Caleb sat there staring off into space it seemed, the ruckus that his family was making was nothing compared to the whole ruckus of the tavern. It was easy to tell why he was stuck here though. His father decided that since they were stuck on land that they would go to the tavern and make merry. Course, it was only his father and brothers that were making merry.
At least he wasn't forced to sit at the same table as them. That would've been a nightmare. His brothers taunting him about how thin he was and actually taking the plate of food that he himself had brought. Oh well, this was just one of the days that he was able to sit away from them and be free of them. Even though he was alone, he didn't order any food nor drink. He just wasn't sure he was safe where he was to order anything yet, that and he wasn't sure what was sold for food.
Sure the smells of meat and other things could find his noise, but that only told him so very little. Course, it was tempting and starting to make him hungry. However, the conversations around him seemed to snap him out of his slowly growing hunger. Many were talking about the strange events lately, he could see why. They were all a mystery, what was one to do about it? However, he soon heard talk of something else. A celebration of some sort? No, that wasn't the term for it. He listened a few more minutes.
"A festival?" Caleb said to himself, though if someone was walking past him they would've heard him.

Just because the first attempt to gather information in town was less than productive didn't mean a second attempt would fall just as flat. Or a third. Or a fourth. Or, in today's case, a fifth. Someone had to put up with the rowdier locals, and Xara wasn't about to let the princess or Adell come anywhere near this place without her around. Of course, coming into this place on her own was a different matter entirely. She didn't mind the locals too much, at least, and she had the sense to finally buy a simple jacket and pants to wear instead of her usual uniform. The maid still felt somewhat out of place even as she stepped into the bar, however, and quickly found herself straying further away from the center of the bar. As luck would have it, though, her path took her past the whispering man just as he spoke. Raising an eyebrow slightly, the woman glanced around for a moment before turning to face him. "Is that what this commotion's all about? I thought they'd be saving their energy for the main event." She chuckled lightly as she spoke and smirked awkwardly, still unused to speaking so... Casually among strangers. Xara would need to get used to it if she wanted to do her job effectively, though, and she needed to make sure she looked relaxed doing it. Thinking about smiling casually and actually doing it were two different things, of course. ★ caleb vervain, open ★ HELLO LADY

Caleb was surprised when he heard a voice speak to him. Looking up at Xara with light brown eyes, he quickly snapped out of his surprised state. He shrugged his shoulders.
"I think it has something to do with it." Caleb said. "There's talk of a festival of some sort along with all the strange things going on lately."
He fell silent as he wondered if he should ask her about this festival. He didn't know about it. Due to being on the sea for most of the time and when they were on dry land, there was nothing fancy going on. Course, Xara would most likely think he was crazy for not knowing.
"Could you tell me more about this festival? I'm afraid I've never heard of it let alone attended." Caleb eventually asked.

More talk of the strange occurences. Xara made a mental note to ask around the rest of the tavern later. With any luck, someone in the area could actually give her some useful information on what was going on. She wasn't expecting much, though, and at least this man actually seemed sober in comparison to the rest. "I've heard rumors about that. Nothing concrete, though. Would be great if someone knew what was going on with that, though." Chuckling lightly, the woman pulled a chair over and made her best attempt to slouch in it. It was hard getting used to just leaning like that on command, however, and she eventually settled back into a more upright sitting position. "The festival? It's... Mm... Something to do with Lifae." What was it that tailor had said? Recalling the details was proving harder than expected. "And people are supposed to go on dates during this time with... Roses? I think white ones to ask people and red ones at the end if they want to repeat it next year." Xara was fairly certain she was forgetting something important, but she could always ask the innkeepers about the details later. "Say. You didn't happen to hear anything about what happened with the moon or the noises, have you?"★ caleb vervain, open

"Lifae?" Caleb asked confused.
He didn't know what that was actually. At least, he couldn't remember. Well, he knew there were things he didn't know. This festival and Lifae were one of the things he didn't know. When Xara asked him about the strange events lately, that he knew about. He nodded his head.
"I've heard about those. I'm afraid I don't know much though." Caleb said.

A mild disappointment, but nothing the maid couldn't get over quickly enough. There were numerous others in the area and most of them probably wouldn't come up with anything useful, either. Besides, there was the matter of this man not knowing about Lifae. From his clothes alone, she couldn't really tell if he was a local or a foreigner, but it was still a curious matter. "The goddess of light. One of the three goddesses worshipped in differing amounts depending on..." Xara stopped herself after a moment once she realized she was slipping back into a more formal manner of speaking, then cleared her throat quietly. "Ah... One of the three goddesses, yeah. Some areas follow all of them, others just follow one."Leaning forward in her seat slightly, she gave the man a long inquisitive stare before leaning back once more. "So where're you from, anyway?"★ caleb vervain, open

"Oh." Caleb said to Xara's explanation of who Lifae was.
Well he was certainly doing a good job on fitting in on dry land. Oh well, it was a good deal better than staying with his brothers and father. Although, her question made him go silent for a while. Okay um...how to put this without seeming to be weird? He was born on a ship that was out at sea so really....nowhere?
"Kind of hard to say..." Caleb started. "You see...I was born on a ship that my father is the captain of and we were at sea when it happened. So....I guess you could say nowhere really..."
Smart way to explain that....smart. Caleb waited either for Xara to laugh her head off or go on about how crazy that sounded. It was true though.

This was becoming more and more interesting, wasn't it? The man's birthplace certainly explained the lack of knowledge on the previous topics, although the fact that someone would bring his pregnant wife out to sea nagged at Xara to just ask about it. She knew better than to question, though. "That... Uh... Huh. Explains a lot, actually." Chuckling again, she attempted to slouch in her seat once more and actually managed to find a comfortable position this time with her arm draped around the back of her chair and a leg crossed over the other. Maybe it wasn't as hard to blend in as she thought. "So what're you doing around here? Working, getting used to dry land, vacation?"★ caleb vervain, open

"We came into port a few days ago and well, we've been staying here since due to all the storms lately and the moon being green." Caleb answered. "My father doesn't think it's wise to go out onto the sea right now but....he probably wants to anyway."
Caleb knew his father wanted to be back on the sea. It was as if dry land was going to be the death of him or something. Course, there was many times were he seemed to have no marbles so maybe the land would kill him in a way? Just a thought though. Caleb didn't want his father dead or nothing. Just wished that he had some of his marbles back.

"Knowing something and wanting to go along with it are two different things. It's just like eating anything that tastes good." Nodding once, Xara took a moment to glance around the bar. It only took a moment for a waitress to walk by, carrying a plate full of deep fried meats and organs to another table nearby. "Like that. It'd probably taste great, but we both know it'll probably kill us if we eat too much of it." The woman seemed fairly satisfied with her analogy as a grin crossed her face. "Being able to control ourselves and figure out when we should or shouldn't act on that knowledge is part of the learning process." Even as she turned to get the waitress' attention and ordered a pint of ale for herself, she kept an eye on the man's face to gauge his reaction to that sort of comparison. "Do you drink?"★ caleb vervain, open

"True." Caleb said in response to what Xara said about doing and wanting being separate things.
However, if she knew his father then she would agree that the man wanted back out on the sea. The old man seemed to be miserable and that of course wasn't a good thing. It never pleased a child to see their parent unhappy.
"No, I don't drink much." Caleb said.

"Neither do I. You'll need to get used to it if you're on the mainland, though." Taking the pint from the waitress as she returned, Xara eyed the ale in the glass skeptically. It was very... Brown? There wasn't really any other way to describe it. It smelled odd, it would probably taste horrible, and she would regret drinking it come sunrise. Still, she needed to build up a tolerance somehow, and it didn't look like there was going to be much more information to be gained here. The woman took a deep breath to steel herself before downing her drink in one go, gagging for a moment afterwards before getting up from her seat. "Like... Ugh. Like so. You... You work on that." Xara shook her head quickly before giving the man a light nod. "I'll be seeing you... Mrgh." She took another quick breath, then made a beeline for the exit. With any luck, she would be able to get back to the inn without either of her companions noticing. This was definitely going to feel terrible in the morning. ★ caleb vervain, open

"One doesn't have to take up everything that people does in a certain place." Caleb said.
It was true in a way. Besides, his brothers along with his father already drank. No reason for everyone in the family that worked on the ship to do it. Plus, Caleb liked having his senses intact. Watching Xara take a drink out of the mug, he had a feeling that she might be in for a bad ride.
"You sure you'll be alright?" Caleb asked as Xara started to walk away.
