Aimless swimming was starting to become favorite past time of Quincy's. Not to say that it was something he particularly enjoyed, but rather something he found himself doing more and more often. He was quite far from Lemuria's safety, very much in no merman's land and only swimming out further. One could say that he was relatively close to the surface. Yes, he was indeed "close" to the beach, but not really. He was miles below the surface, swimming along the edge of the cliffside where land gave way to open water.
Wandering so far from home was not normally a staple of Quincy's. In recent days however, it seemed to be that way. In all honesty (and he would never admit to this) Quincy was worried. He could never say exactly what it was that had him worried, but deep down in his stomach there was a gentle gnawing that refused to leave him alone. The ocean had been acting very strangely since the recent freak storm and rumor had it the surface world seemed to be in the same strange slight disarray. Maybe it was the never-waning moon above, but Quincy didn't have the foggiest idea what it could really be. Maybe aimless swimming was his pitiful attempts to go and try to find out what was causing the ocean to act so weird.
It was a bright color that caught Quincy's eye. Bright colors were not a strange thing in the ocean, especially if it moved. But to be so stationary and so far down and away from civilization... As the merman swam closer to investigate, he noted that it was a plant of some kind. When Quincy got close enough to the foreign object resting in a crux along the sloping cliff he immediately knew it to be something from the surface world. He'd never seen anything like it in the ocean. Some merfolk fancied that they had 'surface' flowers in their gardens back in Lemuria, but this was so different from anything they claimed came from the surface world.
Gingerly he picked it up and held it in his hands. Now that he stopped to really look around, he noticed a few other of the strange plants either resting along the cliff or floating very slowly about. He wondered briefly if the recent storm had pulled them into the ocean and swam around to collect a few more.
