Soon, sooner then she might like, she would be traveling again. It wouldn't be a bad thing, but... part of her couldn't help getting a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach. Ridiculous, wasn't it? For that reason she decided to get an early start on the day and make her way to the beach. A few hours staring at the ocean didn't sound like a terrible way to pass the time and help ease her mind. Looking at the water was one thing. What she didn't expect was to find herself moving closer to it, slipping her shoes off, and walking into it. Lycoris forced herself to keep breathing calmly as the water reached her waist. Just like this wasn't so bad, though the waves pushing her and the current pulling her did make her worry a little bit. Staying calm would be what helped her. Swimming. She couldn't swim. Knowing how to would be a very good idea... it just... going under... nope, nope, nope. Not doing that. Shivering, Lycoris moved out of the water and began to brush herself off, feeling water rolling off her body. She sat down on the wet sand and drew her knees up towards her chest. It wasn't uncomfortable out here, so staying for awhile wouldn't hurt her. Going back to the inn just didn't sound appealing at all. ★ maelynn brooke ★ there you go cx

Ah, the weather was so lovely this time of year. Being off from work today, Maelynn was sort of bored. She didn’t have any kind of inspiration for drawing some kind of outfit today, plus her brother wasn’t exactly the type of person to hang out with, because he preferred playing the piano all afternoon. It was sort of hot today, so maybe taking a dip in the ocean would be nice. Heading towards the beach in a white sundress, she imagined what the water felt like today. She couldn’t wait to cool down in the water. On the way there, a brunette was sitting by the sand, looking a little bit troubled. Maelynn didn’t have a lot of friends, so she assumed talking to the girl would make her feel better. ”Hey, are you alright?” She waved towards the girl as she made her way over. ★ lycoris ★ :3

The voice of another, that of a young woman, caused Lycoris to look backwards towards the source of the voice. She could feel a bit of warmth spread to her features as she did so. Someone finding her out here in the state she was didn't exactly make a great first impression, now did it? Wet, covered in sand, smelling like the ocean... Her mother would have a fit over this. Good thing she was hundreds of miles away in Heim right now. "I..." Unable to find the words, Lycoris hastily stood up and started to brush herself off. Oh, this wasn't good. This just wasn't good at all! She chewed furiously on her lower lip to buy herself a few moments, then looked at the other female slowly. Hm. By the looks of her, she wasn't anyone who would recognize her. Judging a person based on their appearance might not be the best thing, but sometimes it did help. Forcing herself to relax, she managed to nod her head just slightly. "I am fine. I lost something in the water and went in to retrieve it, but I have had no luck so far." Saying that covered her well enough. It didn't sound like a lie and if the girl did recognize her as she drew closer, it would still be a viable tale. "What brings you out here?"★ maelynn brooke ★ ~

Maelynn watched as the brunette got up and quickly wiped away the sand that got onto her clothes. She looked pretty flustered… something the red-head had to deal with when she was a teenager. The girl quickly explained that she had lost something she dropped in the shore but she was unable to find it. Hm, what could she have lost, Maelynn wondered. ”I can help you find it! I’m taking a break from work today, so I’m free! Um, what did the item look like?” Maelynn began to wander around, looking for something sparkly. She could have lost a piece of jewelry and they always glimmered from a distance. ★ lycoris ★ :3

...well, crap. "It was a ring. I was out in the water looking a ways, so it is probably lost in the ocean for now. I-It is alright, thank you." The slight stammer in her voice caused her to cringe. Lying wasn't exactly one of her strong points. Dancing around the truth and dropping some misleading hints worked from time to time, but flat out lying just felt wrong for her to do. It didn't help that she was one of those sorts who was too honest for her own good at times. "Anyway..." Trying to move away from the water - out of sight, out of mind - Lycoris fidgeted a bit. "If you would like to help, finding a towel would be a better use of time. I did not factor in how cold it would be after getting out of the water..." Her point was followed by a sneeze, causing her cheeks to tinge further pink. "...forgive me. This is not a condition I prefer to be seen in. It is very unfitting."Still, it slipped through even with her lie. Biting back a sigh, she bowed her head slightly. "May I inquire your name?"★ maelynn brooke ★ ~

“Aw, I bet it was a beautiful ring.” Maelynn loved rings. She would make bead rings and wear them to school. Ah, the wonderful memories. Now she was focuses on her career as clothes designer. The brunette felt embarrassed, but Maeylnn paid no attention to it. She also noticed that she was getting cold from being in the water for a long period of time, and it looked like she was starting to get sick. Remembering she had a small sweater on underneath her white sundress, Maelynn took it off and gave it to the girl. ”It’s okay, we all make mistakes sometimes. It makes us human.” Oh, she forgot to introduce herself. ”I’m Maelynn Brooke. I’m a waitress at the café. It’s nice to meet you.”★ lycoris ★ :3

A waitress at the cafe? For a moment, Lycoris found herself almost laughing. Almost. Didn't she meet another waitress on this very same stretch of land just a few days ago? Funny how that sort of thing happened. "Maelynn Brooke..." The name rolled off her tongue easily. Glancing down at herself for what felt like the millionth time, she swallowed the lump in her throat. "My name is Lycoris. It is a pleasure to meet you." Why did saying her name come so hard here? It wasn't a common name, no, but it wasn't as if everyone would suddenly point their finger at her in an accusing manner. The stares she got in town were enough to make her feel on edge with that sort of thing in any case. "I am curious..." The brunette's jade gaze shifted to the ocean. "Is it true that there are a lot of merfolk that make their way up to this beach?"★ maelynn brooke ★ ~

Lycoris… it sounded like ‘licorice’ a little bit. She didn’t want to tease the brunette by saying that her name sounded like candy, since that would be a bit rude, plus she just met the girl! Not only that, she was wet and shivering. Hopefully Maelynn’s sweater would help her warm up a little bit. As she looked out into the ocean, Maelynn did the same, and then a curious question popped up. "Is it true that there are a lot of merfolk that make their way up to this beach?"Maelynn heard a lot of strange tales about merfolk. She hadn’t seen one in real life, but people swore that they come here in search of exploration. Imagining meeting a merfolk would have been so exciting in the waitress’ opinion. ”I don’t know. I guess they do. I think it’d be a lot of fun if I could become friends with one.”★ lycoris

Standing around near the water would just make her colder. Keeping her arms up around herself for warmth, the princess began to walk across the sand. Her pace was slow and leisurely, clearly meant for the other to follow along with her as she did so. Rushing along and leaving her current companion behind would be something done in poor taste. "There are not many beaches near where I live. Seeing a member of the merfolk race has always been one of those things I believed would be impossible, but coming here and seeing how much of the ocean is right against the backdoor of this town, it makes it feel much more real now." A soft, content sound escaped her lips, somewhere between a sigh and a laugh. "People who live here are more fortunate than they realize."Heim had charms that Ilusia did not. But, in the end, it was very artificial. Breathing this air and feeling this land for too long stirred parts of her fae nature that she wanted to keep dormant. ★ maelynn brooke ★ ~

Hm… Maelynn wondered what it was like to be a mermaid. Swimming in the sea for almost every day, and playing with your aquatic friends. But she would probably get sick of it and return to shore—if she could have the air to breathe that is. She’d rather have fun at the beach by looking for shells and building sandcastles. She did that a lot with her younger brother when she was a kid. ”Maybe you should get on home since you’re cold. I don’t want you to catch a cold or anything. If you want you can stop by my house to dry yourself up.”★ lycoris ★ :3
