HERE I SIT UPON THE INVISIBLE THRONE
Moonlight? Check. Silence? Check. Lack of others around? Seemed to be a check, though according to his nose, there were at least a few people lingering about somewhere. Ah well, couldn't have everything, could he?
Peace? Definitely check. A thing he needed more of than he was strictly comfortable with thanks to his past, but a thing that was easy for him to attain. Even his job, such as it were, was practically stress-free thanks to how good he was at it. Thievery, for him, was a non-issue... arguably, that itself was an issue, but not one he minded. He was in a position to take whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, a position that was a far cry from his childhood, and it was perfect that way.
Now, though... this night, at least, he wasn't skulking about as the King of Thieves. This night was reserved for calm, relaxation, and a little of letting his eyes once again wander the place that was to be the grounds for the upcoming Festival of Lifae that he would more than likely attend. Whether or not he'd be attending with anyone could have been anyone's guess.
Nonetheless, after a period of wandering, he chose a spot at random and merely lowered himself to a seat there, retrieving his lute from where it had otherwise been strung across his back. A few slight plucks that barely made a sound save to his more sensitive ears to make certain everything was still in order after his walk, and so he began. The tune that arose could be said to be sad, perhaps slightly hopeful; whatever it was, he wasn't minding it, opting instead to just play what came and enjoy the notes.
An instrument that brought the pleasure of music but memories of pain. Truly, the feline beastman had his issues, and this probably wasn't about to help solve them, but... at least it was peaceful. At least he could constantly remind himself that he was free.
At least... one of the minor claws that grew at the end of his partly furred fingers didn't quite snap through a string upon the first sound his ears caught and promptly perked up to. That would've been... troubling.

Finding something to wear for the festival was much harder than Xara expected. Between making sure there was enough money to afford supplies for next month and finding something that actually looked alright, the maid made absolutely no progress in actually finding anything to wear. She was still wearing one of her uniforms at the moment, but it didn't seem like such a good idea to wear that at the festival. Then there was the issue of actually getting their job done. The maid still wasn't entirely sure if splitting up would be such a good idea, but if that was the princess' decision, who was she to say anything? Even though both of her companions could probably take care of themselves, there was still the innate risk involved in splitting up at all. What if someone got sick? Injured? Kidnapped? All the stress probably wasn't doing her heart or her hair any favors. Finding her way into the garden, Xara took a moment to just stare off into space for a while before letting out a tired groan without any regard to anyone else who might be in the area. She didn't even notice the presence of another in the area as she started to simply pace in circles, almost in a daze. It wasn't until she realized that she was walking in circles that the maid finally realized that this area was... Quiet. Eerily quiet. Wasn't there some sound before? She stopped walking and started looking around, trying to determine the source of the maybe-sound. ★ lance rayvis ★ CATMAN y u so string

HERE I SIT UPON THE INVISIBLE THRONE
What to do about this, then? Alone, at night, someone he hadn't completely figured out, inclusive of that girl's companions. Nobles from Heim, that much at least he'd little doubt of with how they held themselves paired with his regular reports on anything and everything coming to or leaving Avalon, and where. A habitual practice, one could say, but he didn't get to be a thief of his fame without knowing as much as he could about everything around, now did he?
"Looking for something, perhaps? Or just looking around the site of the coming festival? Rather late to be doing much otherwise, I should think."
So the feline beastman spoke, from a short ways in precisely the opposite direction he'd been playing his lute, which was now slung securely across his back, before. Quietly as could be, in fact, such that even he himself, with his fine senses, barely, just barely picked up on even his own footsteps. It was precisely those that moved him to that opposite side, now leaning his shoulder a little against a nearby tree with a slightly playful grin on his face.
"If there's anything in particular the lady's looking for, I may be able to help with that; we felines are fairly well-known in being able to get around in the dark rather well, after all. Whatever the case, I suppose I might as well introduce myself, at that... Lance Rayvis, naught but a mere traveler, at your service," he offered, in turn pushing himself slightly off the tree he was leaning against to grant a light bow. As he was trained, as still suited his freed personality regardless.

The sound of another speaking probably wasn't much reason to worry, but it was still something worth paying attention to. It took Xara a moment before she finally turned to the source of the voice, a polite smile on her face. "The second, I guess. Taking a break never hurt anyone, but I probably..."Chuckling lightly as she trailed off, the maid tilted her from side to side until her neck let out a loud crack. "Much better. Haven't had a chance to relax for long, but this seemed as good a spot as any." She held her head in that position as she noticed the man's ears, squinting a bit to make sure she was seeing properly. Those... Those were definitely cat ears. "I've heard of that quality among... Well, cats more than beastmen of the same type. Do you get tired during the day, too?" Bringing her head back up slowly, Xara let out a relaxed sigh at the distinct lack of stiffness around her neck. What she would give for a good neck massage around here... But that wasn't something she could just go and look for, could she? The princess probably wouldn't mind if she asked her ahead of time, but it wouldn't look very professional. Besides, she was trained to withstand this sort of thing! Going off to... ...Right. She was speaking to someone. The maid dipped into a curtsey before settling into a more relaxed stance while leaning against the back of a bench. "Xara. Pleased to meet you."★ lance rayvis ★ nananananana

HERE I SIT UPON THE INVISIBLE THRONE
As the girl trailed off, he tilted his head slightly in curiosity, as though expecting more to come. It didn't seem that it was to come, however, though he had his suspicions what it might have been were the fact not likely a secret. Something regarding who she actually was, likely enough; perhaps regarding why she and her companions were here in the first place.
If only word from other lands could reach him more efficiently, but ah well, he took what he could get. Literally.
"Me? Depends, but not usually. Shall we say, I grew up in... less than favorable conditions. Occasionally staying up 'til late at night and managing well during the day is normally not an issue for me," he replied upon that matter. "Xara, though... not a type of name I recall hearing around Avalon. Foreign, perhaps?" he inquired curiously, subtly prying toward some of the information he sought. Something he was generally fairly good at, without ever letting any of his actual intentions slip; couldn't be the King otherwise, now could he?
"And relaxation it does seem you need, from the sound of that neck of yours just earlier. Perhaps I might offer a little tune or otherwise something for your neck to assist with that? Can hardly allow a lady to bear any such stress if I am to call myself a gentleman, can I?" he offered, chuckling lightly and moving over to take a seat on the very same bench, albeit a short ways from the girl out of due politeness, in turn slipping his lute over to his front such that it wouldn't get trapped between himself and the bench.

"Not a huge surprise. Staying up late is supposed to be bad for your health, anyway." Glancing upwards at the night sky for a moment, Xara chuckled lightly at her own inability to follow that. Encouraging others to do that was one thing, but actually going to sleep early herself? That meant giving herself even more work to do in the morning, and that just would not do. "The way you speak certainly doesn't show that, at least. It's more common here than I expected, honestly." Would he take offense to that? Maybe. She truly wasn't expecting any beastmen to speak this well unless they were raised among nobility, but to find two like this was a huge surprise. "You've guessed right. I'm not from around here, and this place... Well. It's just been one surprise after the other."It didn't take long for Xara to make her way around the bench to actually sit in it, a light sigh escaping her almost immediately on contact. Smiling politely, the maid shook her head before letting her head rest against the back of the bench. "That's alright. I wouldn't want to distract you from... Whatever it is you're doing here tonight. The offer's appreciated, though." She hummed to herself for a moment, then turned back to face the beastman. "If I may ask, what are you doing out here, anyway?"★ lance rayvis

HERE I SIT UPON THE INVISIBLE THRONE
He could hardly help but chuckle slightly and give a little shrug at her comment. Bad for his health? Yes, one could say that, considering his 'job' that often required staying up fairly late anyway, using the cover of night and times when people were sleeping or not on alert, that sort of thing. With how little sleep he used to be allowed anyway, that much wasn't a problem.
"Ah, I'm not doing anything of any particular importance, really. Recalling the area and festivals of the past here, where everything was before and likely will be again per tradition, practicing my own music a little... just the standard life of a stray wanderer, you might say," he replied with a little grin, idly striking a few chords on the lute he still held. "A stray wanderer who is, as you might have guessed, attending the festival alone as has been common, but even that has a certain charm. Being free to do as you wish, to perhaps pursue who you wish so long as they aren't already taken, and just taking things at one's own pace. Such is just what's preferable for me," he concluded with a little shrug.
"What of you, then? If you're examining the to-be festival grounds as you say, might I assume you have someone to bring? Perhaps someone from back home that might have come along with you, or someone you've since met here?" he inquired curiously. "It would hardly do to go to a festival practically blind and without anyone reliably around you that you know, I would think."

Xara wasn't sure what she was really expecting. Someone waiting for a steamy rendezvous? A setup leading to a climactic duel under the moonlight? A cult ritual to summon a dark god? Considering the way the weather had been recently, the third possibility didn't seem so farfetcheed. To actually expect anything of the sort to happen here, though... Well, it would have been an interesting thing to talk about in the morning. "A musician, hm? I'll be looking forward to hearing your work, then. Seems like it would be easier for you to know what sounds good with those ears. Is it?" Her attention shifted to lute, taking note of its craftsmanship and the finer details of the instrument. Of course, she didn't really know a thing about musical instruments, but it felt good to look at something and at least pretend like she knew what she was looking at. "Going alone really doesn't sound so bad when you put it that way. I've got my own sort of work to do, so going alone works just as well for me."The maid chuckled lightly as she looked over the area once again, taking particular onte of any good vantage points in the area. Climbing anything wouldn't be very subtle, but simply knowing where to stand would help immensely. "I do plan to be going with two others, but not with them. I've met a few people since coming here, but nobody that could really... Fit that same meaning." She paused for a moment to ponder on just what the beastman said before raising an eyebrow towards him. "What about yourself? I could see it being hard to play music and dance at the same time, but... I'm curious."★ lance rayvis
