DAREN BROOKE TWENTY SPRING THE CAFÉ WAITER | BISEXUAL six feet two inches human aries |
personality
Daren is a simple young man, who enjoys the little pleasures of life like constantly being barefoot or walking down a forest path while smoking from a light although stylish wooden pipe. In a complete opposite to his older sister, he's a complete fashion outcast, smiling from afar from his sister's obsessions with clothing while enjoying his naked feet touching the ground. This comes from a very 'I do what I feel like doing' attitude, that isn't necessarily snarky as it sounds: It's just the one he developed over time. Daren simply has difficulty to grasp several social conventions such as table manners or the proper mannerisms in a formal environment: It simply won't stick. This means many thins he says or does may come across as rude to most people, given he can innocently point out his opinions on someone in their face and expect no consequence for it. Though then again, having his sister around always helped in the past, given apparently all the social ability went to her, along with a good share of the common sense.
That being said, he's actually a very kind individual, or at least aspires to be.Quick to trust and slow to discern, Daren makes an easy target but a very loyal friend. And while he's not a competent fighter, the sheer anger of someone with little common sense coupled with a natural unrelenting determination to get what he wants makes for a decent ally(if you have no one else to turn to). Most of whatever fighting experience he had comes from trying to intimidate or spook off his sister's pretenders. He may be a very kind fellow, but try to flirt with his sister and he'll go after you. Poor guy, will have to chase half the town away.
The determination mentioned is one of his key aspects of his personality. Once he set his mind tom something, he'll do whatever he can to achieve it, even if it, well, questions common sense, but it's pretty much agreed he ignores that whenever it comes up. Daren set out to be a waiter and work alongside his sister, and he's doing just that. His mother once said he had a knack for the musical arts, and he set out to learn how to play the lute, violin and flute, and when his sister jokingly dared he learn the piano, he started on that too. Oh, and don't dare him. No teven indirectly. Most of the time, he'll do it. Just to prove his point and/or that he can, he will.
Daren also has a major case of wanderlust, though unlike many others, he does not seek adventure per say, but rather has a preference for exploring and discovering new locations and seeing wonders he can't in town. He does have an interest in adventuring though, but his view on it is very naive and almost child-like.
Once you're his friend, he's there for you. While that can be used to use him, the boy will not even mind: Ask him to take a soup half across the country and he'll ask what's the name of the recipient. And while he can be a little slow with social conventions, he's not thick in the head: Not the most cultured man in the land, but naivety has it's limits. Betray him and you'll have 132 lbs of pure unstoppable rage flying at your face. Again, if he notices. Try to be sneaky. When he does get serious, he really does get serious, even if it's a rare thing to be seen. Then again, he gets a lot quieter, so you might want to turn that mode on sometimes.
He can be found either practicing the piano these days or as always, dozing off or smoking in a balcony he reached somehow. He can cook pretty well too, even if that may be balanced out by his rather hearty appetite. A nother important thing to know is that he's just as inefficient in romantic interactions as with any other social interaction, being probably the worst at catching flirts and even worse at flirting himself.

history
Three years after the incarnation of cuteness was born, that being his older sister, also in the middle of spring, was born Daren Brooke, naivety in person, his birth around the same time the sun opened after the rain had stopped. If Maelynn had the beauty of her mother, Daren had the looks of his father alright. The only things that he had alike to his sister was facial structure and skin color. Obvious hair differences and eye color aside, his hair being a shaggy blond one and his eyes a tone of blue so deep that could be seen as purple in most cases, they also had a major height and body structure difference, with Daren towering over his sister and having a very slender body type, that the family likes to call 'clumsy tall'. His fashion sense, goes without saying, is none, much to his sister's dismay.
His childhood was pretty uneventful, even if he had the unfair reputation of being mischievous. Daren was actually a pretty chill kid, it's not his fault he had the urge to slingshot the shit out of boys who wanted to hold hands with his sister. Not his fault either if slingshot shots from a five year old hurt eight year olds. It was a surprise, really, and a pleasant unexpected result if he had ever saw one. Daren did legitimately help his sister out of trouble a few times, though.
The same thing kept going towards his teenage years, though the visit of a traveler to town from a faraway land really changed him. He and the stranger began to talk very frequently, and much of the wanderer's ideals and views were adopted by the boy, what causes him to be the shaggy haired balcony invader he is today, and more specifically, his lazy dress code and mannerisms. The traveler eventually went away, but had changed Daren's outlook on things forever, giving the boy a major sense of wanderlust and a desire to see new things and explore new cultures. Rumors say the wanderer was a mage and that thus the boy had also developed an interest for magic.
As he wandered off into adulthood, all the slacking around was beginning to get really boring. Daren inherited his father's habit of smoking in a pipe, though whatever he smokes in it is a constant mystery, for it's nothing usual: Another one of the traveler's many lessons. He also got a great interested for music ever since his teenage years, although after learning a couple instruments he now struggles with the piano, for he finds he lacks much of the coordination needed, but practices often.
Thanks to his Maelynn's success as the café waitress, she was able to get him a job at the café as a waiter, probably because the owner thought he'd be a male equivalent to her. Not quite, though his bulbbiness and clumsiness does interest some, and well, it's like seeing a standup comedian sometimes, in the best(or worst) of his days. After the owner managed to get him to wear shoes and his sister designed him a nice uniform, things have been going fine, though his desire to wander off still rages inside him. For now though, to focus on not letting the plates fall to the ground, Daren, please.
