Unseeing Edge
Saber Rvalini Eighteen Winter Town Guard | Heterosexual Five Feet Eleven Inches Human Scorpio |
personality
Saber is quite simply, tough. His inner strength radiates out as modest indifference and sarcastic aggression from steely eyes. Due to his blindness, he judges on character alone and treats everyone as equals, with much annoyance on his part. His voice is harsh, uneducated, but his words are well-thought and hold their ground against silver tongues. Indeed, he spends much of his time thinking, if not working extremely hard. He shows unique proficiency with a blade, likely bettered and relied on by his handicap. He is prone to recklessness however, especially for other’s sakes, as he holds himself with little regard- many will always have what he will not. He openly regrets his blindness.
His loss of sight is his largest weakness, an easy way to find anger. Saber feels permanently lost in an abyss, quite alone. He hears whispers, feels the minute shift in the breeze, smells the flowers, tastes the water in the air, but is still completely detached. It psychologically hurts, constantly in fear, but he has only adapted to dull the pain. He is not fragile by any means, but is still human.
Saber can be very untrusting to those that believe they have some sort of advantage over him; he’s even more suspicious of those he trusts. He’s able to masterfully push and pull himself into a state necessary for dealing with whatever is thrown at him. Sure he may be a mental fortress, but he is also acutely emotional and uncannily perceptive of his surroundings. He favours touch the most, enjoying the feel of textures. He is far more sympathetic and sensitive then he lets on, but it takes another’s understanding of his pain for him to show it, those he is truly protective of and strong for; his friends.

history
At least the tenth-born child of an enchanter and a weaver, human and beastwoman respectively, who never seemed to have enough sons or daughters, Saber lived in a small village relatively near Asgard. At a few months old, it became apparent that the Rvalini’s had a completely blind child, whose other four senses had developed remarkably, seemingly as an alternative. It didn’t keep siblings from pranking him or worrying about him, but he stubbornly kept as much independence as he could.
Saber was not sure when exactly he started practising with a blade, but with school not an option and little use around the cramped house, he needed something to do. It wasn’t hard to obtain one either; his father often enchanted weapons while watching his son wield one everyday. As he grew older, his siblings would often pull him with them on small adventures, that he quietly enjoyed. One birthday he was given a special, five feet long broadsword, covered in runes to give the holder a sense akin to sight (rather, sense air disturbances). Saber pretty much slept wearing it thereafter, since it allowed him to go where ever unaided.
After years of practise, Saber began to feel empty, useless. Until, he made one of many frequent visit to Asgard for whatever that sister couldn't get by herself. He overheard someone talking about a job- a job of being a town guard. Later that night he openly told his family what he was going to do and damn right nobody disagreed with his decision.
At first his initiation was met with scepticism by the superiors of the Asgardian guard, but Saber soon put any sort of doubt to rest. Despite only having a little education from home, he passed any test that should of been on paper through pure dedication to learning the facts and law… Any physical test was aced, even without the aid of his sword if he so happened to have to take it off. After passing and being let out onto the streets, Saber soon got angry with the fact his blindness made him instantly recognisable to the citizens of Asgard… But you can’t win everything.
