When she made her way back to camp, Xara was going to freak out on her. It had barely been two days since she left Memorial Garden with the maid who served her and the inn keeper's son that needed some time away from his home situation. The first night they were able to find board at a small tavern that offered rooms for those who needed it and the next... well, things did not go so well then. Due to the spring showers, traveling became more problematic, making it so they barely reached an old abandoned house in the field. With it still raining, staying there and waiting for the sky to clear up seemed like the best idea. There were two problems in all of this. The first and most important was the lack and firewood to keep the house warm during the chillier parts of the day. Because of that, Xara and Fayt were assigned with the task of looking for it. As for her, gathering some fresh water from a stream was a much easier assignment. Really, it shouldn't have been so hard. Slipping on some mud and twisting her ankle just hadn't been factored into the mess at all. Wincing, Lycoris pulled her leg a bit closer to inspect the area. Putting pressure on it would only bring more pain. With the way the rain was coming down, Xara and Fayt wouldn't be able to hear her even if she screamed. Scratch Xara freaking out on her; Adell would freak out enough if he ever heard about it to make her feel guilty for a year. ★ lance rayvis ★ she's just going to be having one of those days

HERE I SIT UPON THE INVISIBLE THRONE
Call it a habit that he rather preferred to keep tabs on the more... interesting folks and goings-on in Avalon. But where for others, such a thing might take ages, turn into some sort of full-time hobby or something of the sort, he was different. He had resources, he had loyal (enough) contacts, he had it all.
Such that finding the trio that seemed to be headed in the direction of Meridell, each of whom he was still relatively curious about thanks to the lack of information that often came to him from lands outside Avalon and that Innkeeper's occasional nighttime excursions likely regarding something about his adopted children that Lance yet couldn't pick up word from. They were careful, he'd give them that. Hiding anything from him, however, simply could not last forever. He'd learn those secrets sooner or later.
Perhaps even now, while he could have one of them alone.
"Easy... you'll not want to do much with that after that fall I just happened to see. I suppose you might be fortunate that this traveler knows well enough how to tend to such things."
So the brown-cloaked beastman spoke with a little grin as he came up, promptly calling upon the aid of his sharper teeth and small claws to tear a fairly long strip from his sleeve, thus leaving his forearm rather bare by the end.
"Lance Rayvis, by the way," he introduced himself as he knelt by the girl, glancing down to that ankle for a moment or two before returning his gaze to her face itself. "Just a wanderer, curious why he's finding an injured young faerie out here alone in this sort of weather. Looking for something, perhaps? Or just making way to your next destination? I could likely help either way; I know these lands quite well after spending half my life in them," he amiably offered.

If it was just that a stranger appeared in her moment of need, the young princess of Heim might actually take comfort in the sudden appearance. It was the fact that he referred to her as a faerie that immediately sent a jolt of worry throughout her entire body. At the age of fifteen, her wings were forever destroyed. The ability to change forms or even produce the magical faerie dust became lost with her natural powers of flight. She might have found some ways to take to the skies through magic, but it would never be the exact same. Being called out on being a fae meant one of two things - either this stranger was one of the people who recognized her and knew enough about Heim to know she took after her father's heritage instead of her mother's, or he had been watching her and caught her doing some magic commonly associated with the fae race. With wariness sticking close to her, Lycoris found it difficult to relax in the man's presence. He made no movement to further her injury, appearing quite capable of helping, and spoke with a tone that didn't further her uncertainty. Besides that, it wasn't as if she was a helpless as people assumed she was at first glance. After a moment of remaining silent, she pulled her hands up to her lap to let the man - Lance, as he introduced himself - get a better look. Swollen as it already was, walking would definitely be an issue for a bit of time. At least it wasn't worse. "My name is Lycoris." Giving her last name felt unnecessary when one of the possibilities already was that he knew exactly who she was. Biting back a sigh, she shook her head a bit. "I am on my way to the forest in order to do a bit of investigating. Because of the rain, traveling needed to be put on hold for a bit of time. Firewood and fresh water are things that were needed, but the ground is muddy here, and you can see the result of that. Even as a wanderer, though, is it not strange for you to be out in this weather as well?"★ lance rayvis ★ more like help on making her paranoid c<

HERE I SIT UPON THE INVISIBLE THRONE
In a fairly bad state that ankle was... shame he didn't have any herbs or anything of the sort, or really know much about them regardless after coming from a place where they wouldn't have a chance to grow. Still, he'd seen worse, no doubt, and was otherwise perfectly careful. Careful to make sure the girl would accept the help, and careful that he could wrap the makeshift bandage about the ankle and part of the foot in such a way as it would sufficiently brace the joint, keeping it from moving much and thus coming more easily to further harm. That much, at least, he could certainly do. Everything else would just have to be a matter of it healing, or someone else with still more experience or skill than him tending to it.
Ah well, it was at least a start.
"Well, there... I can't recommend walking much on it, and I'd certainly recommend soothing it with something cold when you're able, but at the least I can brace it like this and count on the water to hold the cloth a bit sturdier," he concluded, finally reaching up to slide his hood back. A beastman, his ears cleanly depicted, but one could likely already guess from the bits of fur and small claws upon his hands. A little something he'd been born with more than just the usual ears and tail.
"As to myself, well... call me somewhat of a stray. Wanderer, information-seeker, odd jobs worker, whatever suits me at a given time. I'm hardly one to be put off by some rain, not especially when my home is a ways away and I've no place in particular to stay otherwise," he offered with a little grin. "Which does still lead me to the question, looking for what? Meridell, perhaps, if it's investigation in the forest that you're after? Or perhaps something regarding the strange events and sounds that have been starting lately, in which case, you're going quite the wrong way if you wish to actually look into them more than asking someone that may or may not know," he inquired curiously.
"Though my offer to help does still remain nonetheless, Miss...? Well, you've only given me Lycoris, but it surely couldn't be your surname as well to make you Lycoris Lycoris, could it?" he teased, chuckling lightly. "Whatever the case, you might be surprised the amount of word a lonesome wanderer like me picks up. Perhaps I might be able to offer even a clue?" he offered.

Information-seeker, wanderer, odd jobs worker, hm? A real jack of all trades by the way he described himself. Another word that popped to her mind was 'overly nosy.' No, that sort of thinking would just meddle things up further. He went out of his way to help her and continued to offer help, so giving him the benefit of the doubt was the least she could do. "Lycoris tends to be easier to say when the alternative is Princess Lycoris Marina Sotiris of Heim." The way he wrapped her ankle didn't make the pain any worse, so for that she felt grateful. Considering she had mud on her dress and barely able to move without cringing, it still raised a question on how she would be able to return to the abandoned house that acted as a temporary camp. Such things could be thought of later on. For now... The way the sky grew darker and the rain heavier made her shiver. "While you, Lance Rayvis, may be accustom to being out in this sort of weather, I am not, nor am I much for conversing about secrets and rumors while rain falls down around me." A sneeze drew itself from her, causing her to flinch a bit. "I hate to have to ask for further assistance, but in this case my pride will have to come second. About half a mile down the path is the cabin I am staying at for now. If it is not to much trouble, would you help me return to there? It is warmer and dryer, and an easier place to speak freely."★ lance rayvis ★ no, no, speaking out here means catching a cold

Princess, then? Not entirely expected, since he'd heard little word of the Princess of Heim of late, but it seemed this explained why that was. Still, he could hardly deny keeping up the act for the sake of earning trust, could he. Thus as soon as she revealed that, he blinked in surprise and lowered himself quickly to a sort of kneeling bow, that which he was sickeningly used to displaying before nobility and just rich folks in general.
"Ah... y-yes, of course, milady," he affirmed with a quick nod. Gone in part was the cheerful, free demeanor in place of one that prostrated itself before such royalty... for now, at least, and only out of personal convenience and, as much as he hated to admit it, some ingrained nature. Of which included lack of eye contact. "W-well... I'd offer my cloak for further aid, but it would hardly do any good with how soaked it presently is, so... y-yes. I'll have you back to your cabin in no time, and at such a pace that we'll get there reasonably quickly without jarring that ankle of yours too much," he assured, moving his position to be kneeling beside her and reaching both arms out for now in an obvious intent to carry her, rather than support her on a shoulder or anything of that sort. Pausing for a moment to allow her to deny the gesture if she so chose, he otherwise picked or helped her up whichever way she'd allow, making certain to get her to the cabin in relative haste lest she be stuck out in the rain like this for too much longer, especially with that ankle.
"I wouldn't suppose milady has anything somehow kept colder around here, or otherwise some herbs she might be able to identify to aid pain or swelling? Otherwise... well, I'm afraid there's not much I can offer," he spoke with a light frown. "Beyond that I can certainly try to aid you however I can, whether by some sort of remedy or cooking I might be able to manage?" he offered, leaving out the point of whatever information she was after, for now. Hardly could he keep just pressing about that and possibly seem suspicious, after all.

There were some things that she would never get used to even if she lived to be a full four or five hundred. One of those things was allowing herself to be picked up and carried. Color threatened to flood her face, barely being suppressed by her attempt at maintaining some semblance of dignity. What little she had left would be leaving her once they reached the cabin anyway. It was with that thought in mind that Lycoris wrapped her arms around Lance's shoulders to keep herself supported and to make it easier for him. If nothing else, she knew that she wasn't that heavy, having a naturally slender frame and fast metabolism. "Fayt might know of some herbs, but..." The ones that grew in Ilusia were not as easy for her to recognize as the ones back home. The safety of the cabin offered shelter from the rain as well as a few supplies picked up from a nearby town the previous day. It wouldn't be a lot to work with no matter how she tried. "He and Xara should be back in a bit. If you are able to cook, it might be a good thing to do, for they will most likely be hungry as well once they return. I did manage to get some stream water." A tired sigh escaped her as she pointed to a bag near the fire dying in the fireplace. "There is beef, onions, potatoes, carrots, milk, flour, salt, and pepper in the bag. If you can make a soup or stew out of those, there should be enough to feed four people."Another sneeze caused her to smile very faintly. "There is a little wood left for the fire. You might be able to increase the strength of the flame enough to cook and warm yourself."★ lance rayvis ★ poor cat has to keep everything locked up inside for appearance sake

"Stew for a few people it is, then. Don't worry about me, though; I'm pretty sturdy, whether it's cold or heat or whatever else," he assured with a little grin, back at least in part to his previous self. And hardly did he waste any time getting to work. Just enough wood to start a decent fire, vegetables and meat cut up in due time with some of the meat, water, and some flour added in first to start on a sufficient broth before everything else might be added, and all in all, nothing wasted, whether movement or even the slightest scrap of food. He... knew better than that, it could be said, but no longer did he have to worry about any sort of punishment.
Not for some time, not since he'd taken his freedom. But now wasn't the time to even start thinking about that.
"There... that should take just a short while, but it should be plenty enough, I'd dare say," he spoke once he was able to simply leave it to cook, finally slipping his cloak off of himself and setting it near enough the fire that it would dry more quickly. For whatever it was even worth, since chances were he'd just be going back out into the rain anyway... but at least it was more comfortable, and let him wring his tail out a little in a safe spot for that to get some water off of that.
"In the meantime, though, what would the Princess of Heim be looking for here, outside her own land? It's certainly a ways for someone of your status to go unless it's something particularly important, isn't it?" he curiously asked, settling for sitting cross-legged on the floor, his tail swaying lightly from side to side in interest and his ears perked slightly such that he didn't miss a thing.

As the beastman took to work on preparing the stew, the princess began hobbling across the floor to the best of her abilities. The walls of the cabin were close enough that she could use them to help her move without using her injured ankle. It might have looked slightly weird to see her bounce on one leg like that, but all things considering, she already figured appearances were lost entirely on her end. The bathroom of the cabin provided temporary sanctuary. Some spare water was used to wash herself off before the mud could get fully caked on her skin and in her hair. A spare dress that reached her knees worked as well as anything else for the moment. One final glance at her appearance proved she looked at least somewhat presentable now, allowing her to return to the main room just in time to see Lance finishing up putting everything in the pot. "Curiosity killed the cat." She sat back down against the floor, using her clothing bag to act as a temporary cushion for her leg. The little quip had been impossible not to eventually use, all things considered, and it brightened her mood. "The queen believes that there are some people of interest in Ilusia. She sent me, my bodyguard, and my maid here to investigate. In particular, she believes there are people who belong to the Royal Family of Ilusia, as ridiculous as that notion is. Still, it is enough to warrant the trip here. Since arriving, it has been difficult to find anything, and nothing substantial was found in Asgard. As such, we are going to Meridell and Volos, and then returning home to let the queen know that her suspicions were inaccurate."★ lance rayvis ★ hnnnng, I wanna see a thread with lance and ailonwy. that would be so cute +w+

HERE I SIT UPON THE INVISIBLE THRONE
"Heh... so they say, but I've managed a fair thirty-four years with it so far. Perhaps I'm merely not curious enough," he replied with an amused grin.
Only half of which was even slightly pleasant, but it wasn't as though he had to say that.
"Hm... so it's something like that, is it? What, then, if it's not false? What if they're even people you happen to have come to known during your time here, perhaps even people that themselves don't know their birthright?" he suggested somewhat thoughtfully, already having put pieces together in his head. The suggestion was that there was more than one such heir, and naturally, if it was known at all -- which, surely, something of that scale would have to be -- it was undoubtedly a well-kept secret. Now then, wouldn't that fine Innkeeper have some things to answer to now the Princess of Heim had set down the last pieces of the puzzle for the King of Thieves to figure such things out...
"Still, if you're going to Meridell and Volos, I'd suppose you'd be looking for what the long-lived forest councilor, Tempest Riveria, may know, or otherwise what secrets Garmon Cave may hold that none have yet caught so much as a finger 'round," he suggested, but really, it might well have been good as fact; if they were looking for info like that in such places, there were really no other sources as good to use as those. "But of course, there's always certain alternatives from place to place, are they not? Not easy to use ones, mind, but no doubt there are ways. I'm afraid I don't know much about the royal family in general as I've only spent half my life here in Avalon, but there are always the thieves, if you can deal with them. I've no doubt you wouldn't appreciate the suggestion, but the word is that they even have a King here in Avalon, which implies that they're organized at least to that point. If there's any floating rumor around Avalon itself, he's probably heard it... if you can ever find him," he offered... but for now, he'd leave it at that. See how she might take it, see how suspicious she might or might not get for him even suggesting such a thing.
The ball was in the Princess' park now, so to say.

"I have spoken to the inn keeper and his wife. They were the first people I spoke to. Make no mistake, I was thorough in my investigation, for the queen would be quite irate if I returned home without even trying." Lycoris allowed her eyes to slip shut for a moment, following it up with a quick shake of her head. "I also spoke to the mayor of Asgard while present. He is a man of interesting character, though I would rather not have to deal with him again for quite some time."Never would be too soon. "On the mention of Avalon, it will not be a place I visit now. That is quite a long ways from Ilusia, Lance, and it is not a place one can easily go to. ...I am very surprised that you lived in Avalon for as long as you claim. The faeries and elves are secretive and not the most open to outsiders meddling with their affairs. Granted, you could have lived on the outskirts in one of the human settlements, so perhaps it is not that difficult to imagine after all."She hummed thoughtfully, pressing one finger to her lips. "The King and Queen of Avalon have currently departed from the land and are staying in Romuda with the leaders of the island. There is something strange brewing in the forest country. Heim has been investigating it lately for different reasons." Even though Romuda, Avalon, Cen, and Ilusia had their own leaders, all answered to Heim, the one to keep them under grips. "Tempest Riveria may be one to ask, yes. For now... it is just finishing up and returning home."★ lance rayvis ★ I'm not sure why, but I got super hungry while writing this =w=

HERE I SIT UPON THE INVISIBLE THRONE
Hah... as if anyone would be up front about such information. A little naive it seemed the Princess of Heim was, but that came as no surprise to the feline; he knew well how the rich and 'noble' acted, how much they simply relied on others to tell them what they wanted and generally take care of them.
He hated it, but he was doing well at keeping down his disdain for such people in general, he figured.
"Yes, the Mayor of Asgard is... hm. Shall I say, a little overbearing at times, and perhaps overprotective of his children? Neither of whom are entirely agreeable, I think, but ah well... that's rather besides the point, is it not?" he idly commented, closing it with a little shrug. People that definitely gave him issues... those three were on that list for various reasons.
"But there's always something strange, though, is there not? Not something most people might see, nor might they ever, but such is the world we live in; so, so many things are not left out in the open," he shrugged, finally scooping out the stew that was then finished into a pair of bowls to offer one to Lycoris herself while keeping the other, the one that had but a meager portion, for himself. "Such is why I'd even so much as suggested thieves and their like; if anyone might be likely to catch those more strange tidbits, it would be they who skulk in the shadows, more so that King of Thieves they are purported to answer to. The mysteries of Garmon Cave and the fabled swords, the lost royal family of Ilusia, even what went missing on any given night; according to rumor, that man's the one with all the answers, so who knows.
"Just between us, though, I think I know who a few of his contacts, of sorts, may be, if you might ever wish that. Of course, there would always be risks involved for one such as you, so it's simply up to you, I suppose... how much you think you might gain from Meridell or Garmon Cave, and how much that one may have and be willing to give at whatever price," he offered, seeming a bit concerned despite it. He couldn't exactly appear any other way speaking of such a subject, after all... even if he was speaking of himself.

Lance's recommendation of thieves had gone ignored for good reason - those sort of people brought more trouble than they were worth. If she was someone else, someone of a lower station, it might be possible for her to find their reasons sympathetic. Ilusia might have softened her a bit, but teachings were ingrained in her from a young age and that would be difficult to melt without more time away from Heim, and more specifically, the ruling monarch of the land. "The King of Thieves of Ilusia is little more than a myth." Lycoris scoffed, pausing to take a bite of the stew afterwards. The flavor had developed as good as it could with limited ingredients and not hours to blend together. She would at least feel full after eating a bowl of it. Enough left for Xara and Fayt would ensure they felt the same once they returned. "From what I've heard of the man, he is a person with an ego far too big, as he feels it necessary to have a title. A thief is still a thief no matter how you look at it. He steals things that do not belong to him for his own personal gain. Perhaps if he acted as some Robin Hood-esque figure, I would feel more drawn to the idea of seeking information for him. As it is, a petty man, or woman using a man's title, holds no interest of mine."The brunette grew thoughtful for a moment. Something said did strike her interest, if nothing else, and it warranted a bit of debate. "The cave is not a place that interests me much of now. It is just some silly old cave, is it not? Why do you assume there is something more to it?"★ lance rayvis ★ meridell and avalon can be easy to mix up, so it is all good cx

HERE I SIT UPON THE INVISIBLE THRONE
Scratching the back of his head a little as she spoke, he gave a little shrug as she concluded on the matter.
"Perhaps, or perhaps there are other ways of thinking about it. More than stating themselves a King, maybe it's just a matter of people's natural need for order of some kind... even people like that, thus they have to have someone at the top. Or maybe it's just a matter of controlling that sect of the populace and keeping it in some sort of check," he thoughtfully suggested. Speaking from experience, one could say, considering it was a little of both. He stole the title of 'King' away from the previous, he kept the populace of thieves and similar in control, and he had his own ambitions he'd never tell anyone on the side. That was the way of things.
"As for Garmon Cave, though, there's a whole big legend around Ilusia surrounding that place. A hero, a pair of swords whose names have constantly been lost or mixed up to the point where I don't think anyone knows their proper names, and the monster or something of the sort he killed in that area. According to rumor, the swords are hidden somewhere in the cave itself, but nobody's found anything," he explained with a slight sigh. "Honestly, who knows if there's really anything to it, but if you're checking out Volos, you'll probably want to look into that," he suggested.
"Though since you mentioned that 'Robin Hood' of fables, the whole policy of 'steal from the rich and give to the poor' I recall he had, I do wonder about that and the beastfolk in... the southeast, some movement there you as the Princess of Heim may have heard about and occasional, hushed whispers of a shadowed supporter here in Ilusia that I've likely only picked up for being a beastman myself..." he spoke, thoughtfully casting his gaze up to the ceiling at nothing in particular. Merely further bait, if he were to be totally honest, and not a word he'd said during this entire counter was untrue; that was just part of the trick. And as the trickster, he was constantly curious how the other would react, especially with the sort of high position the girl was in.

A few things were becoming clearer the longer the two of them talked. The first was that this beastman had an extremely pushy nature, whether or not he himself realized that. The second was that there were some points he liked to speak about far more than one would with general interest. Whatever point he wanted to get at, he certainly enjoyed beating around the bush. "I believe you have mistaken me a great deal from what I have said so far." With her bowl finished, she set it down and turned to fully face Lance. Her head tilted to the side a bit and a careful smile crossed her lips. "I came to Ilusia on a request from the queen. This is something I did not necessarily want to do. I did it because I was ordered. After looking for a sufficient period of time and coming up with no answers, I feel able to return."Her eyes fell into a half-lidded state as she continued on. "I am only going to Meridell, and my bodyguard is going to Volos, in order to cover myself in case the queen has sent others to check up on me. Making additional stops to investigate things that may or may not have more rumors attached to them, ones entirely unrelated, does not appeal to me very much, you see, so I will have to politely decline that information for now."Another pause, then a small sigh. "I was sent here for a specific task. That is all the queen will want to know about when I return. Other things will be for her to figure out, which I already imagine she has some inkling of any potential uprisings, providing they are ones that will prove to be an actual threat. Now..."Her demeanor shifted back to a more relaxed one. "Where did you learn to cook? For what little was added, it is quite passable."★ lance rayvis ★ eech, get some rest soon D;
