Humans
Humans are, and always have been, the most abundant race in Adonea. They are a sturdy group that has the capability to reproduce with the other five. If a human does have a child with another race, the child will take on traits of the dominant parent, though it is possible for some things to carry over from the recessive one as well. There are no true half-races.
Physically, humans come in all shapes and sizes. The average height for a fully grown female is between typically 5'4" and 5'9" while a fully grown male tends to be between 5'6" and 6'6". Their builds vary greatly. A human has a lifespan that ranges from 80 to 90 on average and they never stop physically aging their entire lives. They reach maturity at age 18. Their hair colors are red, brown, blonde, black, and a mixture of these shades, while their eyes are generally brown, blue, green, and gray.
- Because of how flexible they are, humans can pick up different kinds of fighting styles, whether physical or magical. They are also the most resilient of any race.
- While they can learn a multitude of different things, they are unable to completely master something unless they devote their focus to it.
- Highly Adaptable - Humans are capable of adjusting to changes in their environment better than any other race. They are better at building, or rebuilding, from nothing.
Elves
Elves the oldest and longest-lived race in Adonea. They are the ones that witness the most change, the most history, and make the best record keepers because of everything they will see in their lifetime. However, this is both a blessing and a curse, and because of it most elves will only settle down with another elf or a faerie. This is not a rule, just a general thing.
Elves, regardless of their gender, are relatively tall. A fully grown female stands between 5'9" and 6'5". A fully grown male is typically between 6'0" and 7'0". Lean and limber, elves have an overall graceful look to them. Their lifespans are between 500 and 600 years. Maturity is reached between the ages of 50 and 75, and they stop physically aging between the ages of 18 and 26 for a time. When they reach their twilight years, they begin to age again at a slow rate. They possess any color of hair and eyes, though most are on the lighter side.
- Because of their long lifespans, they are masters of the trades they apply themselves to. Using a bow or a sword comes naturally to them due to how agile and dexterous they are.
- Elves are a private, secluded race in general, and they don't like letting other people know about them. They are also unable to adapt to sudden changes in terrain and temperature.
- Heightened Senses - Elves can see quite well from very far away and have extremely good hearing. They are also able to sense life and magic without seeing it.
Beastmen
Beastmen are almost exactly what their racial name applies - humanoid creatures with animal-like properties. They will often have the ears and tail of an animal; dog, cat, fox, bear, wolf, or rabbit, for example. No birds.
Their hair varies, coming in the same shades that their animal counterparts fur does. This applies to eye colors as well. A full grown female is between 5'0" and 5'8". Males, when fully grown, are typically between 5'5" and 6'4". Their builds vary as much as humans do. With the shortest lifespan of all races, beastmen try to make their 50 to 60 years count. They reach physical maturity at age 15 and are considered adults. Aging slows down drastically until they turn 40, where it picks up and they age very quickly.
*Beastmen and merfolk have an ongoing feud that no one remembers the origin of. They tend to avoid each other or get into fights when together.
- Beastmen can see very well in the dark, as well as possessing superior senses of hearing, smell, and taste.
- Because of their animal-like senses, they are sensitive to bright lights, loud noises, strong odors, etc.
- Danger Awareness - Beastmen are a race that inherits a great deal from animals. Their ability to sense when danger is nearby is one of those things.
Faeries
The rarest race in the entire world is that of the faefolk. They can use magic to keep their wings hidden if they desire, but they always leave a trail of sparkling glitter behind them wherever they go. This faerie dust can be used to enhance magic and medicine.
Their hair and eye colors are very bright - blue, green, pink, gold. It is very rare for a faerie to have darker hair, but it is possible. Females, when fully grown, are typically between 5'2" and 5'6". A fully grown male is between 5'6" and 6'2". Their builds vary just like a human. Their lifespans put them at the second longest living race, 400 to 500 years. They reach full maturity at 33. Aging slows down drastically at 15 and stops for a long time at 50, leaving them appearing between 25 and 35. Around 350, it starts normally.
- Their wings, while appearing delicate, are extremely powerful. Flight comes to them effortlessly and most learn it at a young age. To fly effectively, they transform into a tiny version, resembling that of a glowing light ball.
- Faeries are very, very weak physically. They are unable to handle their own in a physical fight and have difficult lifting heavy objects. Because of this, they have to depend on others a lot.
- Magic Awareness - Faeries are sensitive to the presence of magic and life, moreso than any other race. In fact, they can find magic where anyone else would say none exists.
Merfolk
Merfolk are one of those creatures you read about in stories and rarely give them second thought. Surprise surprise, they are very real. What isn't surprising is that merfolk tend to dream about having legs and being able to live on land. Very few known the secret to it and it involves a heavy price, as expected, so perhaps it is best to let that dream slip away. A special spell is needed to allow this.
Mermaids have hair that reflect the rainbow - bright, loud, and colorful. You'll find no brown, black, or white. Their eyes are the same. The average mermaid or merman has a very modest build, with height for a mermaid being 5'2" to 5'6" and for a merman 5'2" to 5'8". They have a lifespan that is close to that of a human, ranging between 90 and 110 years.
*Merfolk and beastmen have an ongoing feud that no one remembers the origin of. They tend to avoid each other or get into fights when together.
- Because of what they are, swimming is the most natural thing for a merfolk. They take to the water with ease and are incredibly quick when under the surface.
- All merfolk are born in water. Because of the great importance it holds for them, they have the utmost respect for it. Their bodies help purify water naturally.
- Water Adaptability - Merfolk can breathe and swim in any sort of water as long as it isn't poisoned. They are also able to stand extreme water temperatures. If they are in freezing or scalding water for too long, though, it harms them severely.
