By the time Theris reached the inn, the sun had already set and he was starting to worry that they wouldn't even be open. Even if they weren't, he could sleep on the ground, but... Shivering, and not from cold, Theris ducked his chin deeper into the long scarf that he wore. He took one hand out of his coat pocket to knock on the front door of the inn before trying to enter. Were you supposed to knock, if it was an inn? He didn't know. ★ hay I found a Theris, have a Theris, he's free

Spring was a good season. It meant time to sleep with the windows open, for one thing, but Fayt still couldn't shake the habit of making himself a mug of tea before he went to bed. The kettle let out a shrill whistle and he smiled to himself, pouring the hot water into a ceramic mug over a few tea leaves, as well as a single mint leave to enhance the flavor. There was the memory of chill in the air and he wrapped his hands around the ceramic of the mug, letting the heat seep into his skin and warm him from the outside in. Soon, it would be from the inside out. The sharp knocking on the door interrupted his thoughts and he turned his attention in that direction, blinking slowly. Was someone... knocking on the door? It was a little late to be receiving new guests, but he supposed he couldn't really judge. Maybe someone had set out a bit late from their destination and gotten here at a strange time, and maybe they had too much luggage to open the door? ...or something. Setting his tea down, Fayt made his way to the door at the front of the lobby and opened it slowly, not really knowing what to expect. A young man who looked as though he was dressed for the dead of winter, at least, had certainly not been it. "Yes?" he asked, opening the door all the way. A frown marred his features as he noticed that the man was shivering, and while he meant to ask if he needed a room, what came out was, "Are you all right?"★ theris n' holly n' wynter ★ this will be the best field trip ever you guys

Had he come to the wrong building? He thought he'd seen a sign, but it was hard to tell. He had scarcely slept on the trip over, and never for more than an hour or two at once. If anything, Theris had been expecting a sentence beginning with 'welcome to' and ending with 'sir'. It occurred to him that he no longer looked like anyone important; that he hadn't for quite some time. Perhaps things were more equal here. The corner of his mouth twitched, just slightly, before he answered. " I don't think I am. Thank you. For asking." He hadn't needed to say more than a few words on the boat. Speech felt like something he hadn't really concentrated on in a long time. " Is this an inn?" He raised a hand to steady himself on the doorframe, just in case. ★ I would totally go on a field trip with Fayt

Grocery shopping wasn't always her job, but she enjoyed it nonetheless. And on a spring day like the one that blessed them, she couldn't complain at all. Though, on the way back, she would have to say it didn't end in the same way that it normally did. The sight of a man at the entrance made her tilt her head in confusion before picking up on the conversation. The voice on the other side made her more confident to respond. "Yes, this is the Sea Breeze Inn. You're welcome to enter at anytime, sir!" Her cheerful voice came from behind Theris at the door. Holly looked up at the man, having to shift the weight of the paper bags in her arms to actually see over them properly. After a little chuckle, she added, "If you want to, that is. Wouldn't want you to have to make up your mind on the spot. But if you're feeling not all right, getting inside might be helpful."It didn't truly surprise her to find someone new looking for a place to stay, but she would be lying to herself if she didn't think he was dressed a little weird for the time of the year. She had never seen him before, though, so maybe this was just how people where he was from dressed? "If Fayt's holding you up, then you can just kick him out of the way. Don't worry, I give you permission."★ This is fun, hello.

Theris flinched violently at the sound of Holly's voice. He hadn't even heard her approach. Everything was starting to go a little gray around the edges. It was a clear invitation, and he was essentially trapped between the two of them, so Theris made his way inside the lobby, murmuring a soft " Thank you." He had no suitcase at all, only his winter coat, scarf, and hat. There was something he was meant to be doing - negotiating himself a place to stay with money he didn't have, offering to work if he needed to - but as Theris looked around the room, he felt something bearing down on him like a wave. Hunger (at least he'd had regular meals in prison), exhaustion (how long had he slept in the past week, total?), and probably a little of something else as well-- he brought his gloved hands up to his chest, gripping his own wrist and trying to listen for his heartbeat. ★ I know, right?

"Wha- hey!" Fayt said in response to Holly's... accusation, for lack of a better word, taking a step back to allow both the stranger and his ungrateful sister to pass into the lobby of the inn. He focused a glare that had no real heat onto her before looking to the stranger. He really didn't look all right at all, did he? "You're welcome," he said, taking in the young man's appearance. He had no possessions with him, but his clothing was not that of someone homeless. A runaway, then? He didn't look much older than Fayt himself, but looks could be deceiving. After he had determined that the black haired male wasn't going to keel over and die in the middle of their lobby, he said, "My name is Fayt Devanti. This is my sister, Holly." He mentally added, "whom you're free to ignore", but thought better of it. He had a much better way to punish her for her behavior, after all. Menial labor. "Hey, Hols," he said, turning his gaze to his sister. "I was boiling some water earlier. Think you could make him some tea and get him some of the stew from dinner?" Without waiting for a response, he turned to Theris with a frown. "You could eat it here, if you want, but you'd probably be more comfortable in the dining room." Then again, moving him might have been a terrible idea. ★ theris n' holly n' wynter ★ pickin' on fayt already, you're the worst sister ever

Holly stuck her tongue out at Fayt in a completely mature fashion, changing it to a warm smile when she passed by Theris to set down groceries. She'd let Wynter get those when he came down, paying more attention to the stranger as he seemed to be acting funny-- er, wait, no. No judging people. He was just... No, he was acting funny. Was he sick or just tired? Surely he wasn't drunk. She blinked when she was called out. Ah, so that's how it was. She waved her hand dramatically. "As you wish, your lordship," Holly spoke in a bored tone and bowed, unable to help a small smile as she straightened up and backed out of the room. Not only a few seconds later was there the sound of glass shattering. Holly hissed in pain. "Shit! Ack! I didn't say that! Shoot shoot-- ouch!" There were a few more clattering and banging noises before everything seemed to calm down for a few minutes. A totally composed and calm Holly appeared with a bowl stew, a cup of tea, and a new burn mark on her arm. "Dinner? And I definitely didn't break anything, so lets not tell mom and dad, alright?" Holly directed the last part at Fayt, shifting her weight from one foot to the other as she tried to not look embarrassed or pleading. The last thing she needed to be doing was to be begging to her brother like a little kid. ★ You started it! ... Not really, but still!

His hearing had gone a little muted, but he still heard the names. He swept the two of them a carefully-executed bow, bringing a hand back up to his heart once he finished, counting heartbeats as best as he could. " Theris Lysander. It's nice to meet you." The alias he had picked out and the history he had invented for himself during his days in prison immediately went out the window. A lapse in concentration, and Theris remained himself. He couldn't yet bring himself to care. When Holly left for the kitchen, Theris followed Fayt to the dining room. He practically sank into the first chair he saw, pressing his hand to his wrist to check his pulse. He was supposed to count, but the number kept slipping away from him. Too slow. He could tell that much. Sitting down for a few minutes seemed to help, and he definitely must have closed his eyes, because Holly's voice snapped him out of it again. " It... isn't a heart attack," he tried to reassure them. " Just... beating irregularly." He wasn't sure how comforting that was. Theris blinked, realizing that food had arrived. " Thank you-- I can't pay in coin," he said quickly. " I was going to ask about working to cover the cost..." ★ yeah, Theris, not passing out in their lobby, gold star

Okay, successfully moved the man - Theris, he reminded himself - into the dining room. Once he sat, Fayt sat across from him, mostly hoping to keep an eye on him and ensure that he didn't drown in the stew or something. When Holly reentered, Fayt eyed her arm with nothing short of suspicion before letting out a quiet sigh. "When we're done here, I'll bandage you up," he said, unable to help his lips quirking up in a faint smile. "And of course, no need to tell mom and dad about something that didn't happen." It was probably just one cup or dish or something, anyway, so the chances were good that the two of them wouldn't even notice if their attention wasn't called to it. Besides, the injury didn't look half as bad as what she had suffered in the past at different times. Turning his attention back to Theris, he waved his hand a little as though physically waving away his concerns. "Don't worry about it. The tea is mine, and the stew would have been eaten by one of us." That was probably what was seen as one of his biggest shortcomings; he had a tendency to sort of... give away things that they probably could have made money from to people who needed it. Still, technically, the food was his and he could give it to whoever he wanted. "Are you looking for a job? Our family runs this inn, and we're going to be getting to the busy season soon. We'd just be looking for people to help with... you know, cleaning, making sure the guests are happy, that sort of thing, but..."He turned his attention to Holly. "Didn't mom and dad say something about hiring for the Spring and Summer yesterday?"★ theris n' holly n' wynter ★ holly is the reason they have insurance on the building. also the best thing about roles that no one's playing yet is you get to make things up.

Darkness had fallen quickly that night. The day had passed like it always had, but with the beginning of the spring season, it seemed as if there was always more to do. With the groceries being taken care of by Holly that evening, it had been his own job to gather firewood for the hearth that was to be lit during the evenings. Early spring chill still lingered in the evenings, and a small fire would serve as both warmth and a place to relax. The sound of clattering and a cry from the kitchen drew his attention as he made his way back from the wood pile that rested at the back of the inn. Entering through the back door in the kitchen, it didn't take long to notice the mess that had been left and a brief amusement had fluttered up to the surface. The sound of voices coming from the front drew him out of his thoughts, his hand lingering on the counter before stepping through the doorway and out to the small gathering. "I don't remember, but you can always ask dad." Wynter came to a stop just behind the others, Fayt's words reaching his ears, a small smile splaying itself out across his expression. Tucked under one arm was the pile of firewood he had gathered and in the other hand laying at his side was the remnant of the broken dish. "I don't think he'd be against someone working to help pay off their tab." "Welcome to our inn. I'm Wynter. What's your name?" Even with his hands full and being unable to extend a hand to shake, a welcoming nod was given to Theris as he shifted to place the wood down. Straightening back up, Wynter turned his attention to Holly, holding up the dish to inspect it. "I take it this is your handiwork? Don't worry, I can glue it back together. I can always tell mom I broke it if she asks."★ fayt, holly, theris ★ time to step in <3

So he was eating their food. Somehow, that didn't exactly make him feel justified. Still, Theris was hungrier than he had thought. Now that he felt like he was allowed to eat without putting himself further in debt, he took a bite of stew. The worst of the dizziness had passed, and Theris felt as though his body was reorienting itself in reality. " This is delicious," he told Fayt and Holly. It probably was, but anything he ate at this moment in time would have seemed equally good - it was such a change. He turned, pulling himself carefully out of the chair to bow formally to Wynter. " I'm Theris Lysander. It's nice to meet you." Normally, he would have remained standing, but the chair was too appealing not to sit back down in again. " If your parents are hiring, I'll certainly ask, when they're available." Realizing he was indoors and at a dining table, a bit belatedly, Theris removed his hat. " Forgive me, I think I was starving." Starving or not, he continued to eat the stew at a rather slow pace. ★ he's still wearing the scarf because scarf

At Fayt's reassurance and then the appearance of Wynter, Holly mimicked her brother's wave of the hand-- something that she had picked up from him, no doubt. "What handiwork? If you heard Fayt, nothing has been damaged or broken..." Holly snatched the broken piece of dish from her childhood friend and slipped it into her pocket. Tilting her head innocently, she grinned up at Wynter. "Right?"Humming contently to herself, Holly plopped herself down in a chair, producing an apple from her other pocket and munching on it. An interested expression took over when she looked at the stranger, now named Theris. Travelers were common in Asgard, but Holly always took an fascination in learning where people came from. It definitely helped that she lived at the inn. She got to see many different people. Swallowing her bite of apple, she shook her head. "No need to apologize. If you're starving, you're starving. There's nothing really to help that but food." Holly smiled softly, peeling off the skin of the green fruit in her hands with her nails absentmindedly. "So, Theris. Have you just arrived? Have to say I haven't seen you around here..." Directing her gaze at Wynter and her brother, she raised an eye. "Either of you?"★ So tempting to see how much she can hurt herself.

"Hey, Wynter," Fayt said as he glanced up at his adopted brother. So that meant that pretty much all of them, except the people with any sort of real authority, were up right now. Well, in his opinion, Theris seemed like an okay guy. Most of the people around here already had jobs, so they'd probably have to be relying on someone they barely knew to hire anyway. He seemed as good a choice as anyone else. Leaning back in his chair, he folded his arms and shrugged a little at Theris's apology. "We're not super formal here, don't worry about it." At Holly's question, he turned his head to her and shook his head. "No, I can't say that I have, but I've spent a lot of time in the forge recently, so that might be part of it."
Reaching up to run his hand through his loose bangs, he turned his attention back to Theris. "They won't be available until tomorrow morning, more than likely. You should go ahead and stay the night. It's getting late, and that way you can just talk to them as soon as possible." Maybe he was making assumptions in thinking Theris didn't have another place to stay, but... well, he really didn't think so, honestly. ★ theris n' holly n' wynter ★ don't break her, she's our only holly

Theris did his best to hold up his end of the conversation whenever he didn't have too much food in his mouth to speak. " I got off the boat late this afternoon, and then I think I got a bit lost." In retrospect, it probably should have been easier for him to find the inn than it actually had, considering its placement. " I was raised to be formal," Theris admitted, his mouth twisting slightly. " It's a difficult habit to shake, even now that I'm out of Heim." His tea seemed cool enough to drink, so he took a sip. " If you have a room open, I'd appreciate it." He felt almost normal again. Wonderful. ★ Holly don't break yourself we're all out of replacement Hollies

"What broken dish?" With that settled and a grin on his face, Wynter brushed the remnants of the wood pile he had been carrying off himself. Disappearing for a moment, he exited the dining room and quickly made his way to the front of the inn where the check-in desk resided. Grabbing the guest book from under the counter and tucking it beneath his arm, a pen was grabbed before looking at the available room keys and selecting one, making his way back once more to where the others were still sitting. "Go ahead and sign here. I can talk to mom and dad in the morning to see what we can do for you." The book, a blue leather-bound notebook of decent size, was placed in from of Theris and opened to the middle at the book-marker. Empty spaces below the last person to have checked in could be seen when inspected. The pen was set down on the spot, and Wynter slid into one of the seats at the table. "Here, this is for you too." Pulling out the last item he had grabbed, the room key, he held it up to hand off to Theris. Hanging on the end of the key was a painted seashell and several blue and green beads to match the sea. "I got you one of the rooms on the second floor. You'll be able to see the coast from it."Turning to Fayt, he pointed to the tea. "Did you make any extra? I think I'll have some too."★ fayt, holly, theris ★ this counts as work, right? does it, does it?
