Murphy removed his hat and raked his fingers through his hair before wiping his brow with the back of his hand. After replacing the hat in its rightful place, Murphy leaned down to pick up a stack of boxes. There was always a decent amount of things that needed to be done before the store opened. Carefully, Murphy set the boxes on the floor, unstacking them before opening them up. Different items of shapes and sizes resided in the boxes, wrapped up carefully to ensure that there was no breakage. Many of the items in the boxes were ceramic figurines and paintings, all of which he assumed were Aelrich's. Honey colored eyes glanced over towards the backroom of the shop as he placed items in their rightful locations on the shelves. It was still early, but Murphy could only assume that Aelrich was already in the back doing whatever it was that he did. Once the boxes were empty, the Rhieder broke down the boxes and put them behind the counter. "Aelrich, you back here?" Murphy called as he made his way towards he back, pushing the door open, entering the backroom. ★ aelrich ★ cray cray

There was something comforting about silence. Sitting on a stool with his legs pulled up and crossed, Aelrich bent over slightly, his hands on either side of his head and his eyes closed. He brought his knees up to his chest, though his legs were still crossed at the ankles, giving him an odd silhouette from both the side and the front. He mumbled something under his breath and shook his head slowly, rocking forward just a bit before backwards, then returning to his original position. Think. Colors. Sounds. Tastes. What did red really taste like? Why could you not paint an ocean without using yellow? Did green have a sound, like the rustling of leaves during a storm? He opened his eyes quickly and blinked rapidly as he heard his name, turning to look at Murphy as he came into the back room. "Yes," he said as he lowered his hands, adjusting his legs so they were lain out like a makeshift desk. He had dried clay between his fingers and a few specks of paint on his face, but as usual, he had managed to get absolutely nothing on his clothing. "Need something?" It was odd to think that this guy was his boss when Aelrich had about four centuries of life on him. ★ murphy rhieder ★ what up homie you an' me gon' be bros, yo

The sight of Aelrich sitting in a dark room really wasn't all that surprising anymore. For as long as Murphy could remember, when he opened up the shop and Aelrich came to help out, he'd spent a good portion of his time just sitting in the dark. He couldn't really understand why he preferred to sit in the dark when there was a light available for use. A couple of windows were scattered throughout the large room, bringing in only a little bit of sunlight, but not enough to really see anything with. The shop owner entered the room a little bit more, eyes falling on the male who sat on a desk. The clay and paint on his hands and face gave an indication that Aelrich had been there early working on a few things. Aelrich was the only other person besides himself that had a key to access the back of the store. For some reason or another, there was a little bit of trust there, although, there were times he wasn't so sure there should be. Aelrich wasn't a bad guy, just... really odd. "Nothing in particular. Just wanted to see if you were back here. I know sometimes you don't show up until later, or decide not to come in on some days." This process that Aelrich used, Murphy learned not to argue with it. It really wasn't a huge deal, either. He spent all of his time in the back, rather than out front with the customers, which was a good thing. "I was also wondering if you'd like to have a small bite of breakfast with me. It's been a while since we last talked, so I thought that might be a good opportunity before the store officially opens up." ★ Dude, you a bit scary.

"Breakfast?" Aelrich repeated as if he had never heard the word before. He stared at Murphy for a moment before looking down at his hands, picking some dried clay from between his fingers in thought. It was almost like he wasn't going to answer when he finally said, "All right."
Swinging his legs off the side of the stool, he got up and stretched his arms over his head before walking over to Murphy, prepared to follow him up to his apartment since he could only assume that was where the food would be. "I haven't eaten in a couple of days, actually," he said with the tone of someone who had just realized that. Of course, eating was never a priority for him, which was why he weighed less than a hundred pounds on a good day. Reaching up, he scratched at the bandages perpetually wrapped around his throat and looked up at Murphy. The human only had about an inch on him, but he still wasn't used to humans being taller than him. "Is the store doing all right?"★ murphy rhieder ★ he's the best guard dog

Murphy's brow arched a bit as he looked the other male over. For the most part, he was relatively comfortable with Aelrich. They had spent a decent amount of time together, although, there wasn't a whole lot that the two knew about each other. There were times, however, Murphy really didn't know what to think of make of him. Aelrich was... well, in his mind, he was a complicated being, and there really was no true way to explain. He was pretty sure that were anyone to break into the store while Aelrich was around, everything would be just fine. Who would want to go up against someone like Aelrich? The frightening looks he could give were bad enough. A small smile peeked from the corner of his lips as the other agreed to have breakfast with him. A lot of the time, Murphy ended up just drinking some coffee and running on that for a while, but there were some mornings he just needed to have something to eat. And on those mornings, he enjoyed sharing them with someone. Even someone who was crazy. The brunette glanced over his shoulder as he lead the way to his apartment, brows knitting together a bit. "You know, you shouldn't do that," he said, walking up the stairs. "That really isn't good for you. Then again, I can't really say anything. I forget to eat sometimes, too."The two reached the top of the landing, and Murphy motioned for Donovan to take a seat at the round dining table with only two chairs. The smell of fresh bread filled the area. Heading into the kitchen, he called, "Yeah, the store's doing pretty well. A lot of your clay figurines are doing really well, too. They seem to be pretty popular with the ladies." In only a few minutes, Murphy returned to the dining area with two plates with fresh sourdough bread, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage. "Here you go," he said with a smile, setting the full plate before the white haired male. Setting his own plate down, he retreated to the kitchen and returned with a couple of mugs and a pot of coffee. A small bowl of sugar cubes sat in the middle of the table, as well as a jar of honey, and couple of jars of different jams. Smiling triumphantly, the shop owner sat down in front of his food, feeling his stomach growl. Although he didn't really talk about it much, he really liked to cook and bake. Next to being a shop owner, that had also been another thing he had been interested in. His brother made fun of him for it sometimes, he whatever. "Well, dig in!" ★ Pretty sure the general store's fine. EAT ALL THE FOOD.

Following Murphy up to the apartment over his store, Aelrich looked around with curiosity before letting out a quiet hum. Personally, he was used to living by himself, as he had done for such a long time. But humans and elves were extremely different beings. He wasn't sure how Murphy could do it. "Thank you," Aelrich said with the tone of someone repeating a phrase he had heard once and thought would be appropriate in this situation. Forgoing his fork and knife, he simply used his fingers to push food onto the bread and ate it that way. It was very good, but all of the food that he'd ever been given by Murphy was very good. After a moment, he looked at the other male, tilting his head to the side. "So are you married yet? Or getting married? To that girl that runs the cafe?" Because everyone under the age of one hundred was, to him, too young to be a man or a woman. ★ murphy pendleton rhieder ★ that crash? it was nothing, eat your eggs
