There were two very important things she learned since arriving in Ilusia. The first was that the inn, despite the less-than-imaginative name, served delicious pie. Or, that is, delicious pie compared to what she expected. Actually saying that she enjoyed it would be a small miracle in its own right. The second thing was that there wasn't anything to do. The few things that caught her attention were not within walking distance and no monorail could be found to take her that far. Going by carriage was an option, but it would still take over a full day of traveling to reach those places. Why hadn't the people of Ilusia put their heads together and worked on fast travel? The ice cream dripping brought her attention back to what she was doing. Adell needed to stay at the inn to wait for Xara's arrival and she wanted to get out for some fresh air, so having her destination set for the shopping district made sense. A few vendors were set up selling different wares. The ice cream caught her interest since it would be difficult to mess that up, but the woman in charge of the stall got her order wrong twice due to nervousness and by that time she no longer cared to wait. The vanilla cone worked as one third of her preferred neapolitan treat. Finding nothing else that caught her attention at a glance, the brunette made her way over to a staircase leading up along a cliff wall. If nothing else, she would admit that Asgard's layout interested her, with the ocean with there and a cliff shielding part of the town. The number of beastmen, elves, and faeries she had seen in the best few days outweighed the number she had seen in Heim in her entire life. This place served to be a mixing pot. Whether or not that was good, she had yet to decide. Lycoris tucked her black dress under her as she sat down on the stairs. Pacing herself, she ate the ice cream steadily to prevent brain freeze and let her green gaze wander to the ocean. Boredom would eventually get the best of her and cause her to continue her wandering, but for now this would serve as a place of rest. ★ open ★ this ice cream tastes like it as made for poor people

After settling his working arrangements, Theris had quickly realized that he was soon going to run into some problems. First and foremost, his medication was eventually going to run out. He had entertained the thought of writing home, and that would probably have to be done soon - but he didn't like it. It had been his choice to cut ties, and asking his parents to contact his doctor for him felt like giving up. If his mother got to the letter, Theris knew she would help him, but if his father read it first... the whole thing was a coin flip. In the meantime, he needed to start learning his way around. The first step was to find a map, perhaps a tourist brochure, but as he made his way down the walkway, overdressed for the weather in hat and scarf, he found himself worrying that he'd overlooked the one stall he needed. Being surrounded by strangers soon began to make him twitchy, and he decided he had best move. There was a staircase leading to an upper wall. He moved closer, trying to judge how difficult the climb might be, and stopped. " Lycoris?" They had never used titles when they had played together as children, only in public, and the name came out before he'd had a moment to process that yes, this was his princess, and yes, she was here. The other ships in the harbor. No wonder his had docked so late. " Your highness," he corrected himself a moment later, bowing, because they were, after all, in a public space. He had recognized her instantly, but she was hardly the child he remembered. ★ all hail the poor!

There were many people she imagined the possibility of meeting in this country. That man his mother often entertained at banquets, the one that often ended up in her bedchamber, was one. His adventurous spirit would bring him somewhere this far in pursuit of a rare flower or perfume or the like. The girl who sang and dance such spirited tunes was another. She went where she as paid to and had a home in Avalon, if she remembered right, so this wouldn't be a far cry to go. Many others came to mind as well, but Theris Lysander did not make that list even if she tried to find a way to fit him on it. What did she know of the man? Enough to, at one point in her life, consider him a close friend. His health would always be one of those things that caused concern. His attempt to take the life of his father didn't cause her opinion of him to lower; if anything it caused her to respect him more. Strange and unusual as that might sound, it was what caused him to go from being a boy to a man. "Theris," her tone held an edge of curiosity, "what are you doing here?" Five years brought some physical changes to the both of them, but he still looked close to what she remembered. Slipping her free hand behind her, she braced it on the ground and pushed up into a standing position, taking an additional moment to brush off her attire. "I did not expect to see you in Asgard of all places."★ theris lysander ★ if theris prettied himself up, he could be an almost-ella replacement

" I hadn't heard you were here, either." The best way to stay completely out of the loop was to get on a boat directly after your release, wasn't it? Rumors didn't carry far at sea when you spent most of your time in your cabin. " My father did not want me coming home." The corner of his mouth twitched up in what passed for a smile with Theris. " He sent a messenger to meet me with some of my old clothing and my boat tickets. The message was clear enough." Had she run away? Unlikely; she wasn't trying to conceal her face. " Why are you here? Did something happen?" ★ they both wear hats at least

A very clear message at that. Internally she cringed, wondering exact;y how that sort of thing would feel. As much as she detested some of her mother's decisions and treatments, the thought of not having her support unnerved her greatly. If her mother cast her aside, the chances of her surviving for a lengthy life were slim. "Mother heard some rumors revolving around the royal family that passed away seventeen years ago." Saying 'passed away' sounded much better than 'violently murdered with no remorse,' if even just a bit. She had been so young when it happened, but just because she was young didn't mean she didn't know that something wrong had happened. Years later when she did ask, very few answers were given to her. It wasn't her place to pry more. "For some reason I cannot fathom, she believes I will be able to learn things about these rumors that others would not. With me is Adell Windsor. Xara Raihan will be arriving soon as well, but I do not know if they will uncover anything either. It feels like an excuse to get me out of the palace." Why, she didn't know, nor did she care to find out. Let her mother do what she pleased. ★ theris lysander ★ and theris would be about the same if he had boobies

If she had been sent here on her mother's orders... well, she was by herself now. Was she trusted to go around unsupervised? Theris looked around, but he couldn't see Windsor anywhere. " I'll keep my ears open," Theris offered. " I'm an outsider, and from Heim, so I doubt asking questions will do me much good... but I'll tell you if I overhear anything." He was good at going unnoticed, if he tried. Was she hiding her wings, here? Faeries were more common here, he had heard, but perhaps she didn't want to draw too much attention to yourself. When Theris proposed his offer, Lycoris nodded her head and mouthed 'thank you' to him. It would be helpful to have more people listening for such strange rumors. Did her mother honestly believe that somehow a member of that family survived? Growing up, she always believed it was a thorough massacre, and the though of her mother botching such a thing just did not fit with what she knew of the woman on the throne. "My ice cream- ..." The feeling of vanilla droplets leaking down her fingers caused her to look down. Sure enough it was already starting to do so. A soft sigh fell from her lips and she raised the melting treat up to begin licking at it. "My own error. I thought it would hold up better in this weather. Truth be told, I have not sampled it from a cone before." A bowl with whipped cream, cherries, and hot fudge made the dessert so much better. "If you do not mind me prying, Theris, are you holding up well?" If he was sent a ticket and a bag of luggage, he might not have enough medicine to last for a long period of time, or a place to stay yet. "If you need anything at all, it can be retrieved swiftly."★ theris lysander ★ theris and estel are a good combo. ella works better in more modern-y or ro-y things >w<

" Neither have I." He remembered being cautioned away from quite a few foods as a child. He wasn't sure if ice cream was on that list, but he couldn't recall having eaten any, ever. " I haven't been here very long. I worked out an arrangement with the inn... I'll be working there during their busy seasons, so I have somewhere to stay for the time being." A hand went to his heart, almost reflexively, as Theris continued, " I've only just arrived, really, and I haven't had the chance to seek out any doctors here." Did Ilusia even have proper doctors? " Barring any emergencies, I should be set for another two seasons at least..." Theris shrugged, looking down at his clothing. " It's almost like being someone else, starting anew here." ★ wow I have not been sleeping enough

Almost, but never a new person. No matter what a person did to change the actions of the past, they would never get a clean slate or find a magical restart button to reboot their existence. Many times she found herself wanting to be able to do so, just to see what it was like, and no solution ever came to mind. Life was just what it was and finding reasons to complain about it would always be done. The nature of the living, she supposed. "The two of us are presently residing in the same location. If you need anything, Adell and Xara will be able to acquire it. He is more resourceful than he gives himself credit for and she knows a thing or two about convincing people to give in to specific demands." The doctors in Ilusia were not people she could recommend due to not knowing them. That one man, Fayt, at the inn might be able to help out with suggesting one, but even then she would take his advice with a spoonful of salt. A grain wouldn't be enough. "What do you think of this place?" Her opinion hadn't entirely formed yet. "It is a lot different from Heim. The phrase 'feeling like a fish out of water' is accurate."★ theris lysander ★ go to bed around midnight or something D: it is a good thing

The idea of Xara pressuring somebody into - something - it was funny, a little, but not something he wanted to encourage. He remembered her maid, somewhat, enough that the name was definitely familiar. " I've hardly been here long enough to have a fair sample size... but everyone I've met so far has been very kind. Informal, but kind. It's been a while since anyone's treated me like an equal." In prison, there had been the sensation of being both above the guards in rank and yet below them in status which did not, in fact, balance itself out. What else was there to say about Ilusia? " It's very beautiful here. I don't know what the crime rate is like, but I suspect it's fairly low. They seem like a genuine community." ★ school does not always allow for early sleepan

"The crime rate in Ilusia is low in Asgard particularly due to the guards that have been employed by the local mayor. Between Volos and Meridell there are bandits that roam. The reports given to me before leaving Heim marked the safest routes and which to avoid even with others with me. For now there is no reason to travel far from Asgard. When it is time to head to Volos and Meridell, more preparation will go into planning how to handle it." The largest village in Fairmist and the largest village in Whispering Woods would definitely be ventured to one day. She didn't want to rush it and wanted to keep things focused on where she was for now. After getting comfortable, it would be easy enough to start her search. A few more licks of the ice cream followed her words before she tossed the remainder of it into a nearby garbage bin. Sticky hands would have to be lived with until she returned to the inn and cleaned herself up. The napkin that the vendor gave her with the dessert only did so much. "It does surprise me that you would know how to work at an inn." Starting a leisure walking pace would hopefully signify that she wanted him to walk with her. "If I had to imagine you doing work in a place like this, something more quiet suits you. Managing a library or a bookstore come to mind."★ theris lysander ★ tell school to stop that >c

Did she think the royal family was hiding out in Volos or Meridell? The idea wasn't entirely unlikely. Still, if she were to ask openly, he doubted anyone would be cooperative. He didn't doubt that many of the older residents still saw Heim as the enemy. " There doesn't seem to be much to it." Theris shrugged. " Cleaning, some cooking, shopping for food, dealing with guests... what I don't know, I can learn." His mother was a librarian, back home. His parents had met in the Archives of Heim, and his father had never asked her to retire. It wasn't that he wouldn't love to be a librarian, but... " Maybe if a position opens up at the library in the winter. I've already signed on for spring and summer, and I intend to keep my word." He shrugged again, keeping pace with Lycoris easily. ★ stop that!

Working an actual job would hopefully be something she never had to do unless she wanted to. What kind of occupation would she be cut out for? In the best the idea of having a bakery or flower shop sounded entertaining, but those years were long since past and she didn't know the first step in actually managing something of that sort. The conversation took a turn to something lighter when the food stalls caught her attention once more. A bust with the ice cream didn't mean she needed to rule everything out. Lycoris approached one stand that was currently selling meat, onions, and peppers on a stick, boasting some kind of marinade to bring the flavors together. "Have you sampled something like this before?" Convenience food. Fast food. It would do for now until she sat down and tried more of what the inn offered. "Would you recommend the chicken, beef, or pork?"★ theris lysander ★ at least you have less of a load this semester >w<

Theris stopped by the stand when she did, looking at the food curiously. " No, never," he answered, thinking. " Perhaps the chicken?" It seemed like it would be difficult to cook chicken poorly. It was strange. Walking around with Lycoris felt comfortable and familiar, like it used to, but at the same time... not quite the way it used to. She was older, for one. Somewhere in his mind was the young girl who had made him wear a flower crown to the dinner table, but something wasn't quite matching up. Maybe they had both changed. ★ I can just imagine Lycoris forcing him to wear a daisy wreath ALL DAY

Chicken, beef, or pork. She needed the should-be-pool-boy here to help make these decisions. If she ended up with something she didn't like, then the rest of the day wouldn't feel quite right. It would leave a poor taste on her tongue that she didn't want. Whenever she made plans to leave the inn without anything too investigative in mind, she would just have to make sure he came with her. Adell's answer on what people in Ilusia did for fun proved he needed to take some time to study up as well, so perhaps she would ask the blonde to look after him as well. Such things were best saved for later. For now... chicken it was. Two chicken skewers were easy enough to acquire once the decision was made. Lycoris blew on the meat to make sure it wouldn't burn her tongue. The flavor wasn't as strong as she would like it to be, but for the price it wasn't as bad as she expected. Would she get it again in the future? No, no, most definitely not. If they learned how to marinate meat properly then she would be willing to give it a chance to redeem itself. "Do you believe you will miss it?" Her jade gaze found the ocean. The princess began to move again, though much slower due to eating while walking and talking. "It is a part of your life that you will always remember and never be a part of again in the same sense. It feels a bit lonely."★ theris lysander ★ she would. that and a pretty dress- no she wouldn't be that bad in public
