The world is a big place and there is a lot to do, but it is also important to have a place to come back to. Riley has huge dreams for the future while still being able to keep himself rooted in the here and now. ...most of the time. Sometimes his mind wanders and gets the best of him, but isn't that true for anyone? At least he knows what he wants out of life; he wants to be an explorer and find treasures left by those who came before him. This is where his attention to detail and overly critical nature can be a good thing. Other times it just tends to annoy people.
He is, for the most part, a pretty average guy. Riley enjoys hanging out with his friends, playing games, strumming on his guitar, and visiting the beach as often as he can. It's going to be a long life for him and his motto is that if it can be done, it can be made fun. There are very few things he honestly doesn't like, so that works in his favor. He's also a bit of a risk taker and has a thing about showing off. People who get under his skin are likely to get punched in the face, which has given him a reputation for being a problem child, and he'd much rather head up to the roof of the school and sleep instead of actually attend classes. Dreams will teach him more than any lecture will.

Riley's life hasn't been as exciting as he would like it to be, so he likes coming up with ways to make it sound exciting. For example, saying that his mom has the privilege to attend to the purification ritual of regalia belonging to nobles sounds better than 'hey, my mom's the chick who washes that woman's laundry.' As for his father, he doesn't have a clue on what happened to him. That's how he became eaten by a hundred-headed snake, fought an epic battle against a dragon, or become the king of a vanishing island that only appears every decade. It isn't a lie if you don't know the truth!
His mother's declining health became difficult for him to manage. The two of them moved in with his father's brother who, surprise surprise, had a thing for his brother's wife. It didn't surprise Riley when the two of them made it official after her health started to improve. It is something that he approved of because she looked so happy, but it also did creep him out a bit because it was his uncle. Eh, whatever. Could've been worse.
The offer to attend school in Asgard is something he jumped on. The two of them were trying for a baby and he really, really didn't want to be in the house when that stuff went on. Living in a dorm sounded like a lot of fun. No rules? No parents? Sweet! ...what, there are rules and regulations, and he actually has to attend class? ...time to see how long that lasts.
