It was raining again. Did it normally rain this hard around here? Something about the rain and the color of... Everything certainly didn't feel natural, but maybe things were just different in Ilusia. The fact that it had just started storming again so soon and the strange sounds weren't helping matters much, though. Either way, it didn't seem like today was the best day to go traipsing around a mountain. "Are you sure about this, milady? The rocks can become very slick when they're wet like this." A slight frown stayed on Xara's face as she led the way up the mountain, scanning the area every now and then for any wider paths or lurking dangers. "I haven't even had a chance to show you how to scale buildings or trees yet. Never mind mountains in the middle of a storm..."The maid tightened her grip around the handle of the oversized parasol as she remained close to Lycoris, making sure to shield her from the downpour. Sighing once, she straightened up shortly afterwards and bowed her head once, although the worry was still evident on her face. "My apologies. But this whole.. Everything. It just feels off."★ lycoris sotiris, open ★ feel free to join in we won't hurt you much

"It feels off because it is off, Xara. The moon should not be full already. I enjoy monitoring the lunar cycle and this is not an occurrence that happens. The ocean will be turbulent because of this. Not just that, but it shifts the very balance of nature. The moon is extremely important in many different things. What caused this is something I do not know, but there is a great deal of magic swarming chaotically everywhere." Lycoris spoke louder to make sure she could be heard over the sound of the rain. Adell's presence would be very welcome right now. Where he was, she did not know, and that alone worried her. Going off with just Xara didn't strike her as a thing that she needed to fear, it just made her wonder how far the two of them would actually get. How much progress could they make? What could they discover? Those questions, as frustrating as they were, would just grow more frustrating since she didn't have a single answer to go along with them. "As for climbing, the magic I possess should help with that. Never you worry about me slipping and falling. If I do, it is my own fault for being so careless, and my neck will be the one to suffer because of it. I am positive you can come up with a creative excuse for why I have a broken arm." The teasing jab would hopefully come across just as that - a teasing jab. Going out of her way to make Xara fret wouldn't take much. ...so it really wouldn't be going out of her way at all. Tempting. Another time, perhaps. "It is hard to tell where the sound is coming from." Lycoris' brow drew together as she frowned. "I cannot tell if it is something I am hearing or something that is being felt. It is... peculiar." Their options for progress were limited to up or around. Hanging back a bit, Lycoris tilted her head towards her maid. "Shall we go further up or play it safe down here?"★ xara raihan, open ★ it'll only hurt xara, so no worries c:

Going outside at midnight was not wise. Going outside during a storm was even less wise. Being caught in the first one, he decided, as he lay awake in a room at the inn, that he would like to never experience that phenomenon again. But when the bizarre storm came again and he found himself unable to sleep, a strange sound, like a melody, permeated the night. After a few long minutes of agonizing, he put his coat on, grabbed his black umbrella, and ventured out into the green-lit darkness. At least he would not be completely soaked this time, if all went well. At first, he intended only to search the town. This restraint did not last, and he soon found himself in the foothills around Fairmist Mountain. He did not expect to see two other people there. "Excuse me! You there! Are you…" He meant to ask if they were in pursuit of the sound, but when he got a better look at the women under the parasol, the brunette in particular, his words got lost in his throat. Wondering if he was mistaken, he failed to react properly and ended up staring at her. ★ even if it's not the right place, Lycoris is worth it

The tides being thrown off-balance wasn't something that Xara had considered yet, but with he moon as it was, perhaps she should have kept a closer watch of things. Not that there was much she could do about it, but it did explain the princess' desire to look into this at all. "So soon after the last one, too... All the more reason to be careful, then. If there's someone or something causing this, then we need to make sure not to draw their attention."That was assuming it was a person, anyway. If it was just some unnatural phenomenon, then there wasn't much they could do other than just being careful in this general area. The thought of Lycoris breaking her arm or worse was enough to draw a slight grimace from the maid and even a lull in her attempt at remaining professional even without anyone else around. "Hey. Hey. You're not breaking anything while I'm out here. If you get tired, then I'll just have to carry you." Letting out a low sigh, Xara furrowed her brow for a moment before leaning in, a smirk creeping across her face as she whispered to the princess. "And you know where my hands'll be if that happens."The sound of another person's voice behind them snapped Xara out of her brief moment of amusement as she turned quickly to face him with her usual calm expression. "Hm? Is there... Something we can help you with, sir?" Looking him over once, the maid stepped forward just enough to keep herself between the newcomer and the princess. She wasn't sure whether he was a threat or not just yet, but this was a rather strange place to see someone wandering around. Perhaps... He was the person responsible for all this? ★ lycoris sotiris, aldebaran bates ★ xara does not like hurt that is the opposite of good D:

Another thing that she quickly adjusted to since arriving in Asgard - a lot of people really did not know how to act when it came to her. At first this little thing drove her up the wall. Courtly manners, presence, and composure tended to hide the fact that it irritated her, but she found herself becoming more expressive since coming to this place. Whether or not that could count as a good thing or not, she really wasn't sure. Asgard had a funny way of making her feel more secure than she had in a very long time. "Good evening," Lycoris greeted with a small nod of her head. "The glow of the moon has drawn others out as well." The last time such an event happened, she spent her time with the inn keeper's daughter, Holly. The conversation the two had around a week ago still hung in her consciousness. While it hadn't been a bad thing, it definitely did make her feel more reflective than she usually did. Leaving it at 'good evening' felt strange, yet uselessly echoing Xara would be exactly that - useless. Standing up a bit straighter, she tilted her head to the side a fraction, appraising the stranger with her critical gaze. "Did you come out here alone?"★ xara raihan, aldebaran bates ★ gained one [1] free aldebaran!

Hallucinating under the light of the altered moon seemed like a very real possibility. Their voices sounded real enough, however, and their images were crystal clear. Remembering himself, but still wary under the current circumstances, he bowed stiffly. Perhaps it was the years between him and Heim, but the gesture felt ridiculous. "Pardon my manners. Yes, I came out here alone to pursue the moon's sound… Your Highness. Ma'am." The latter acknowledged the woman who was, presumably, either a very close friend of the princess or one of her servants, if the two of them were truly present. His ears hurt from the thought of how his father would react to this. Utterly absurd, all of it. ★ this is the second time he's been obtained as an adventuring item lol

"Indeed it has..." Was it safe to trust this man? On one hand, he seemed to recognize the princess and knew how to address her properly. On the other hand, this was a stranger wandering around a mountain during a storm. Glancing towards Lycoris once, Xara stood up a bit straighter and nodded once towards the stranger. The princess didn't seem too bothered by him, at least. "A... Pleasure to meet you, sir." The maid offered him a light bow at the waist, sparing another glance towards Lycoris while keeping a close watch of the stranger. He knew enough to address the princess by a title instead of something more familiar, so perhaps this was some sort of noble from the area. Maybe it was just the weather making her paranoid. "So you're here to look into it as well. That could..." The maid trailed off as she regarded him for another moment, then turned back to Lycoris and lowered her voice. "Wise men say only fools rush in." Lycoris kept her voice low, though there was no wariness or uncertainty in it. Giving a stranger absolute trust would be as ridiculous as refusing any sense of trust at all. There was nothing wrong with walking the delicate line between guarded and curious. With where they were and the fact that he stumbled upon them by what appeared to be accident, being able to relax a bit surely wouldn't hurt anything. If for some reason this did turn out to be a weird elaborate trap, it would be their fault for venturing out under the moon's light anyway. "As long as we are all out here, there is no reason not to continue investigating. Three pairs of eyes make more progress than just two when darkness is involved." The mountain that loomed in the distance would still take quite some time to reach, so hanging around the area they currently were at would work better. What would they find, if anything at all? Potentially nothing. Potentially something. No time like the present to begin looking around. "The two of you may introduce yourselves." Seeing how he addressed her properly - a bonus point for him since certain other men lacked the common sense to do so - there would be no need for her to do so. Lycoris moved closer to wall of a cliff that would take them further up and get them a better view. True, climbing in the dark could be disastrous, but the risk was hers to take. Finding proper footing and grips proved to be a minor challenge. Once she felt secure, she pulled herself up slowly, manipulating the air around her to keep herself balanced. ★ xara raihan, aldebaran bates ★ that's because he's secretly a prinny as is xara

It seems I've been recruited. There would be no argument from him. Frankly, he wouldn't dare. Anything was possible on a night like this, but the more down-to-earth attitude of the princess's companion eased some of his suspicion. Until further notice, he would behave as though he were in the presence of royalty (at least, as much as the setting would allow). Turning his attention to the other woman, he gave another, less awkward bow. "Aldebaran Bates, at your service," he said, raising his voice only to be heard over the rain. The words that were exchanged quietly between the two were not heard by him. Only the high hills kept the wind at bay, and he was forced to readjust the position of his umbrella frequently. Naturally, he could see the princess approach the wall, and it startled him to see her climb it. Unsure of what to do, he kept his mouth clamped shut and glanced at her companion. ★ *looks that up* ...his past lives weren't that useless!

That settled that matter, then. Xara would still need to keep an eye on him, but relaxing a bit would make things easier for everyone. Turning to Aldebaran, she offered him a pollite smile and returned the bow with a curtsey of her own. "Xara Raihan. Likewise, Sir Bates."It was incredibly tempting to call him Master instead, but that would just be crude. She made a mental note to mention it to the princess later just to see how she would react, but that would have to wait until they were back in the safety of the inn. "If I may, what spurred you into investigating this-" The maid cut herself off with a worried grunt once she noticed Lycoris starting to climb, hurrying over to get underneath her. Xara knew better than to say or do anything sudden to startle her, but at least she would be able to catch the princess if she happened to slip. ★ lycoris sotiris, aldebaran bates ★ at least xara was the red one that was marginally less useless

Luckily for Xara, the princess did not slip and tumble down to the ground. Cracking her skull open right there would've made for an awkward situation for all of those involved. When she managed to reach the location she wanted, she pulled herself up fully and brushed herself down, dispelling some of the mud and water that clung to her attire. Cleaning up later on would be a problem, but at least she didn't do the ridiculous thing and wear white on a night like this. "I do not see anything peculiar up here or in the distance. Visibility is lowered due to the weather, so that does not mean for certainty that it is the case." What were they even supposed to be looking for? With nothing to go on and a wide area to check, this would prove to be a very difficult task. Giving up so soon left a bad taste in her mouth, so she started to walk to the north, looking along trees. Cupping her hands over her mouth, she raised her voice. "It should be safe to climb as I did. Come on up as well."A moment of hesitation, then a small sigh. "This has most likely already crossed your mind, Aldebaran, so an explanation may help. The queen sent Xara, another by the name of Adell, and myself here to Ilusia in order to investigate some rumors. We will not be here for long if all goes well."★ xara raihan, aldebaran bates ★ but prinnies are awesome because they explode when you throw them c:

Climb the cliff? Aldebaran did not like the thought of that at all. He stared helplessly at the muddy rock face, and then sighed under his breath and pulled his umbrella closed. The cold water on his head made him shudder, but he needed both hands to climb. He secured the umbrella in one of his coat's belt loops and fumbled hesitantly for the handholds that the princess used before. There was no other way to the top that he could see. His foot slipped once before he even began to climb, but the rest of the ascent was, thankfully, free of mishaps. Her explanation was finished by the time he pulled himself over the edge. Straightening up, he wiped the mud from his hands, essentially washing them in the rain. His clothes were not so fortunate. "I understand. Should you require any assistance from me, Your Highness, I will gladly offer it," he said, and did his best to mask the breathlessness. He did not consider himself to be exceptionally patriotic, but this was a matter of formality. ★ Adding explosions to the possessed lightning storm sounds like a recipe for instant fun!

Xara breathed a sigh of relief once the princess made her way up, stepping back to let Aldebaran climb up next. The stains would be relatively simple to get out compared to handling any potential injuries, but this was only one climb out of what would surely be many. "Thank you for your cooperation, Sir Bates. Hopefully, things truly will go well while we are here." Things going well was relative. If they found something, there was the risk of things being dangerous. If they found nothing and returned safely, then could they even say the trip was successful? Hard to tell. The maid took a moment to clench the parasol between her side and her arm before climbing up after the two, mostly following the same holds they were using. She had to adjust her movements to compensate for the shorter reaching range of the parasol-holding arm, but she did get up there eventually with only a few minor slips and scrapes. "It still sounds the same from here... Does anything sound different around here?"★ lycoris sotiris, aldebaran bates ★ speaking of lightning did I tell you of the night thunder set off the fire alarm here

The sound from where they climbed up to sounded the exact same as it did from down below. In fact, there was no change at all - not even a little bit to suggest they were closer or farther from the source. That in itself was rather disappointing in its own right. Lycoris took a few steps around to see if changing her position would make it easier to figure out a direction to begin heading towards. Nothing changed even with that. Yes, rather disappointing indeed. "It sounds the same here as it did in town despite the distance we traveled. Something is telling me that we will find nothing out here even if we look until we are colored blue in the flesh from the cold of the night." Resisting the urge to shudder, she started to rub her arms. An umbrella could only do so much and climbing took her away from the protection of it, leaving her soaked. "Would you accompany us to the inn in Asgard, Aldebaran?" He and Xara could both use a towel and cup of hot tea as well. "We can continue to look around on the way back. Progressing further here in the dark might lead to someone getting hurt." A twisted ankle, a fall into the mud... such things were likely to happen. ★ xara raihan, aldebaran bates ★ I can see that happening for you, tacos, ffff xD also seven more posts we can do this +w+~

They scaled the cliff in vain, then. Given how young the princess was, or seemed to be, Aldebaran found himself resisting the urge to scold her. The result was a blank expression with streams of cold droplets running down it. "I would be honored," he said levelly. It seemed he would bother Wynter a second time, under laughably similar circumstances. Had the princess been in the building then? "Furthermore, it would be no trouble to lend you this coat if you are cold." Be her royal or otherwise, he would offer it anyway. Temperatures never bothered him much outside the extremes, and he would rather not see anyone get sick. Monitoring the physical health of others was a habit of his. ★ Lycoris got the "Annoy Aldebaran" achievement!
