"Yes, that will be all for now. Thank you." The nervous sailor bowed so low that for a moment she expected him to pitch forward onto the ground. Jade eyes watched him as he made his hasty exit, which in turn allowed her to sigh and raise one hand to her face. the entire discussion proved fruitless. Had she expected more than that? No, not at all, but being pleasantly surprised would have been a way to brighten her day. She could see the harbor from the deck. According to the paper her mother had given her prior to departure, she would be staying at some run down, crumbling building with a tacky name. Why had she expected anything different? It was paid for in advance and the promise of their 'finest room' increased her hopefulness a fraction. Her two companions would be sharing a room due to limited space available. Though, if she had to be honest, she wondered if it was her mother's way of trying to meddle and set Adell up with someone. Stranger things did happen. Within a half hour it was time to get off the boat. Lycoris stayed in the back, waiting for most other passengers to get off so she could speak to the captain, then stepped off. Adell could handle the bags the two of them had. Xara would be arriving in a few more days. Until then, getting settled and adjusted would be the top priority. "Do you know where the inn is?" A brown brow arched towards the direction of her companion. "Wandering around like a headless chicken is preferable to asking an Ilusian for directions. We have already received a number of surprised looks just from the boat trip."★ adell windsor ★ I am stealing for first post la la la c:

I WON'T RUN AWAY 'CAUSE I'M ALREADY HOME At the very least, Adell had managed not to get seasick on the trip over, distracted by his own thoughts and worries. It felt a lot like sailing straight into enemy territory. True, Ilusia had been part of Heim's domain for as long as Adell could remember, but it was conquered within his lifetime. It would be truly surprising if the commoners did not bear at least some resentment for their nation, and particularly its royalty. He didn't dare to even think of questioning the queen's motives for sending her daughter to survey the territory, and almost alone, but it did seem a little odd. Was it supposed to look like a, extension of trust and goodwill? Or a reminder of Ilusia's subjugation.
With a shrug, Adell cast those thoughts aside. He was no politician. All he had to do was keep Lycoris safe, whether the Ilusians sought recompense through a riot or a quiet assassination. They were just peasants, at the end of the day. A stern word and a flash of steel should be enough to make most of them stand down. As for the rest... well, suffice it to say, Adell knew what his sword was for, and how to use it. Still, he hoped it wouldn't come to that. If the Ilusians kept their distance and paid their proper respect, Adell couldn't care less if they secretly wanted them dead.
Hefting their bags, Adell kept in step with the young royal, surveying the immediate landscape and the people. "This is a far cry from an official visit, your highness. Such reactions are to be expected." After all that time spent frivolously as children, the form of address still felt odd on his tongue. Adell knew his place, however, and he would heed his princess's wishes; if she demanded she be addressed according to her station, that is how she would be addressed. "The inn is likely to be one of the larger buildings, and should be clearly marked and be somewhere near the town centre." Unless, of course, these Ilusians hadn't even the faintest notion on how to structure a town. "I am confident that we will not need to seek assistance."
Only time would tell what kind of reception they would receive in the town proper. Whether they be greeted with sycophancy or stones, Adell's job remained the same. The question had been answered so Adell remained silent. 'Do not speak unless spoken to' was the first rule a noble was taught when dealing with royalty. LAIKA OF GS!

"Did you want to come along on this pointless excursion?" While it might be far far from pointless or an excursion, viewing it as such would help her get through the next part of her day. The condition the inn might be in caused her pace to remain slow and casual, hanging back in order to take in the sites more. There were a number of things to see at the dock - men going about their business, small children fishing with rods, people stopping by vendors to view wares and purchase food, couples taking advantage of the nice weather, and that sort of thing. It did nothing to assuage the bubble of aggravation growing within her at a rapid pace. She did, at least, turn to look over her shoulder at the brown-haired male, moving her arms behind her back to clasp and hold her hands there at the same time. A dull smile curled up on her lips and she returned her attention straight ahead of her. "One such as yourself should have more to do with his time. Accompanying an assumed helpless maiden on a voyage to a country that makes it no secret of their dislike of her home is hardly something worth doing. You should be fighting dragons and rescuing beautiful women that will then shower you with gold, or in the very least bat their eyelashes at you and wait for true love's kiss to grace their lips."Lycoris bit down on her lower lip after she spoke, feeling that aggravation grow. Her sour mood would just keep getting worse until they reached their destination. Holding in a sigh, she instead shook her head just a bit and picked up her pace. "What do people in a backwaters country do for fun, Adell? It will be up to you to keep me entertained while here. For that, I am counting on you."★ adell windsor ★ entertain the princess, noble!adell. total faith

I WON'T RUN AWAY 'CAUSE I'M ALREADY HOME It was actually something of a relief to hear Lycoris talk about something rather frivolous for a change, but there was still that coldness that could not be missed. Still, a fake smile was better than a genuine scowl. At least to him, for now. "I do as I am bid, your highness, and I consider it an honour to be entrusted with your life." That much was true. In his still-short career as a man of the sword, Adell was nothing if not obedient. That wasn't to say Lycoris was defenceless, however; her lack of skill with the blade notwithstanding, she was truly a prodigy in terms of the magical arts. Still, he would simply worry if he had not been sent along with her, and may have even petitioned to serve as her guard if not granted the honour. "Her majesty has her reasons for this endeavour, I am sure. As for slaying dragons..." It was a convenient escape, especially since Adell hadn't the foggiest what Lycoris could achieve - without proper escort - that a spy or regiment could not. Adell allowed himself a small but honest grin, hoping that there was at least a little frivolity somewhere inside of his royal companion, and that it wasn't merely another mask for her to wear when needed. "If I am presented with the opportunity, I will consider your advice." There was a certain lightness in Adell's voice, but he still spoke carefully, not wanting to incur Lycoris' wrath. He could only hope that his small attempt at humour would improve her mood, not damage it.
The question was considered, and Adell felt a stab of worry as another responsibility was thrust upon him. Entertainment... once, that would have come effortlessly. Now it was a whole other creature. "I cannot say for certain, but I would imagine that they would make great use of the outdoors." After all, Ilusia was still a rather agrarian society, as far as he could remember. There would hardly be the same metropolitan facilities as were found all over Heim. Backward indeed. Still, he had always preferred nature to the confines of a city, so that made the country, at least for him, that much more tolerable. Adell indicated a child with a rod with a movement of his head, his hands full with their belongings. "Fishing, walking and swimming, for instance. I would imagine the more wealthy may ride on occasion." That was something Adell could look forward to, at least. "The common folk likely have their taverns and their festivals." That was said with a bit of disdain. Adell had never truly understood the appeal of drink and such petty activity. Maybe it was all they could do to distract themselves from their mundane lives. "For travellers, I would imagine there to be a number of natural vistas and the like." Adell really should have done his homework better. Most of his preparation had been instead devoted to learning about the temperament of the Ilusian people, and if there were any groups who were likely to pose a threat. "Does any of that appeal, your highness, or shall I begin enquiring elsewhere?" Playing the role of the dutiful servant to Lycoris still felt somewhat odd, but it wasn't overly onerous. At least Lycoris was not a cruel or arbitrary mistress. LAIKA OF GS!

People walked for entertainment in Ilusia? Why would anyone do that for pleasure? Walking only lead to feel tired after awhile. Going from one place to another within a reasonable distance was acceptable, but walking just for the sake of walking went over her head. Fishing went along with it. Staring at a lure in water until a fish bit a hook held no more appeal than walking down a block or two. Swimming, on the other hand, wouldn't be terrible to indulge in. As long as the temperature of the water wasn't too cold, she could find proper swimming attire and enjoy some time at the beach. "I am interested in seeing a festival when the time comes," Lycoris shook her head quickly as she spoke, "but only if the one in question does not sound like it would be dreadfully dull. Eating and drinking for merriment to pass the time is a waste. Alcohol in general tends to muddle the senses and ruin things, so continuing to avoid that outside of the evening wine is what I will do. If there is a place to dance..." How long had it been since she did that? Something about swaying to the music just felt right to her. No matter how old she got, she would never outgrow her low for dancing. Being good at something and liking something were two different things. "Mother believes the two of us, three once Xara arrives, will be able to find things that soldiers will not. I have yet to figure out what she entirely means by that. That aside, I appreciate your companionship." It wasn't a lie. Who knows? If a dragon did suddenly appear, she might need someone like Adell to be there and slay it for her while she stands in the background looking pretty like damsels-in-distresses were meant to do. Sea Breeze Inn. It looked... well. She wanted to believe she had seen worse, but no place came to mind off hand. Her steps slowed and she found herself moving to stand behind Adell instead. I WON'T RUN AWAY 'CAUSE I'M ALREADY HOME It seemed likely that dancing and festivals would go hand in hand with one another, so there was some hope there. Time would tell how well Lycoris would be able to tolerate the country. After all, there had been no official word on exactly how long they would be deployed here. If it was left up to him to entertain her in a country she despised... it could prove to be a very long stay indeed. Especially since he did not count information gathering to be among his talents. He remained silent, unsure of how he should respond to Lycoris. He did, at least, try to shake of some of his pessimism. Backwater or no, there was no way that Ilusia could be as bad as he feared. If he was truly lucky, maybe something about the lack of the court and her mother's direct influence would soften her rather icy heart, if only a little. No good would come of idle wishes, but no good would come out of worry, either.
Adell nodded, rearranging the luggage to free a hand to open the door. he hesitated for a moment. It certainly didn't look like a building remotely worthy of receiving a royal visit, but neither did it seem to be a decaying hovel. Just another humble business in a humble country. He could only hesitate for so long; better to get this over and done with.
Not bothering to knock, Adell opened the door, and instinctively scanned the area. He hardly expected to be greeted by a knife-wielding anarchist, especially considering the low-key nature of their visit, but better to have his guard unnecessarily raised than to get too lazy and too trusting. The luggage was set off to the side, Adell assuming it to be the employees' responsibility. All in all, he wasn't sure how he was supposed to go about this. Disguise was not a real option with a figure as public as the princess, but, at the same time, it didn't seem wise to go around flaunting her status. It was already an unusual visit, no matter how anyone looked at it. Instead of announcing her arrival, and giving a full account of her titles, as was likely the proper procedure, Adell approached the counter.
He couldn't help but feel a little on-edge. They were surrounded by people who, very likely, would love to see his charge's head mounted on a spike. It was possible that they had learned their place, having been conquered for so long. It was also possible that a plan had already been set in motion.
For now, Adell had an innkeeper to deal with. LAIKA OF GS!

"I'll be right with you!" The phrase was a knee-jerk reaction to hearing the door open when he was in a back room. Wincing faintly and rubbing the back of his neck, Fayt stood from where he had been rooting through some crates. It was cruel, working all day in the forge and then taking an evening shift at the inn, but he really did feel obligated to help out where needed and he couldn't make his adoptive parents do all the work. Picking up the box, he pushed it up onto a top shelf and took a rag out of his back pocket to wipe his hands free of dust. Pushing aside the curtain that separated the small storage room behind the desk from the rest of the lobby, he stepped up to the counter and tossed the rag underneath it. "Welcome to the Sea Breeze Inn," he said with a smile directed at Adell, as he was the closest to him. "Were the two of you-"
His words fell short as his gaze landed on the young woman beside the male guest. "...needing to rent a room, or have you already done that?" The pause in his speech was very brief, but that didn't stop it from being noticeable, and the reason for it was probably more than obvious. Everyone in Ilusia knew what the young princess looked like, and while he found it highly doubtful that she would be standing in the lobby of his family's inn, the resemblance between the girl before him and 'Her Magnificent and Esteemed Royal Highness' was more than striking. ★ adell windsor, lycoris sotiris ★ guys hey guys this is really weird you guys

There were a few things of interest to take note of immediately. First off, the inn wasn't as run down and shabby as her mind lead her to believe earlier. The colors reminded her of the ocean - blues, teals, greens, whites, a bit of yellow here and there... nothing too striking but still pleasing to the eyes. No qualms could be found in the immediate decor. The use of seashells suggested that someone had a fondness for such displays. She had to admit she did as well, so another bonus to the establishment. The second thing was that the man behind the desk didn't belong behind said desk. With those pretty blue eyes of his, soft blonde hair, and a tall build, he would make quite a bit of money serving drinks at a pool where rich women gathered. A waste of his talents is what this job was. Give his skin a warm glow to it and open up that shirt, and he'd have enough gold to live comfortably for a week by the end of the day. "A room has been reserved in advance. Whatever arrangements my mother has made will do just fine." Resisting the urge to roll her eyes, Lycoris moved closer to the desk and tilted her head to the side. For a moment she didn't say anything and only stared up at him expectantly. After that, she took a step back and stood up straighter. "You will do. I am up by seven o'clock every morning and expect my tea ten minutes past that hour. Two spoonfuls of sugar, a spoonful of milk, and pinch of cinnamon is how I take it in the morning. As I will be dining in my bedroom, you may bring it at that time as well."She glanced over at Adell briefly, then returned her gaze to the assumed inn keeper. "Afternoon tea for me is at one. Again, you can bring the meal with it. The tea should be jasmine with three spoonfuls of sugar. Evening tea has a slice of pie with it. I do not like having the same pie two days in the row with my blackberry tea. Make sure it is different or I will send it back. Dinner will come at eight. I do not want to be disturbed past that hour unless it is for nightly tea, which is at ten. Chamomile. You may want to write that down."★ adell windsor, fayt devanti ★ the only thing that would make it weirder is some genderbending

I WON'T RUN AWAY 'CAUSE I'M ALREADY HOME It was quite the list of demands, making Adell immediately grateful that he was here as a bodyguard, not a servant. Such tasks were well beneath his station, anyway, but he would do the man a favour by not burdening him with his own list of exacting demands. He could overlook his improper speech for the time being, but, no matter how backward the country was, the employee should be able to recognize the massive social distance that came between them. "Her majesty has placed a great deal of trust on you and this establishment. I would strongly advise against disappointing her, or her daughter." Adell spoke evenly, his left hand idly resting on the pommel of his sword. It was many moments before Adell actually looked directly at Fayt to address him, instead of just surveying him as part of the decor. "Two rooms were requested. One for her highness, Princess Lycoris, and one for myself, and another of her servants. I trust the finest rooms have already been prepared." Compared to her, Adell's name and family were rather petty. In this instance, he was little more than a servant, just one with enough noble blood in his veins to warrant respect. As such, Adell did not bow his head, and spoke firmly, no apology in his voice. Hopefully this demeanor and the fine cut of his clothing would prevent the blond man from seeing them as fellow commoners. He blinked, and Adell's expression softened slightly. He wasn't really too good at playing the part of the demanding noble, especially not compared to the long list of demands Lycoris has already proclaimed.
Adell's expression may not be as stern a scowl as he had intended, but there was no smile on his lips, and his gaze was appraising, weighing and judging Fayt's response. There had been no secret made of their guests' origin or position. Now all there was to see if he paid the proper respect, or if Adell would be forced to discipline him. The former was far preferable. Still, Adell had to ensure that the Sotiris family name was not sullied either. It was a significant responsibility to entrust to a single man, and care would have to be taken.
Considering that Lycoris had already taken to the role of the near-tyrannical royal, it stood to reason that he may have to play the role of the demanding ward, who ensured that people fell in line, and used the proper means of address. As always, only time could tell for certain. LAIKA OF GS!

Suddenly, he was very, very glad that he was the one working the desk at the moment... mostly because he had no idea how either Wynter or Holly would take this situation. He probably had the best poker face and recovery time of the three of them, and still, he was left struck dumb by the list of the brat's demands. Oh. Royal brat. Well, that was his mistake. After a moment, he took up a pad of paper and a pen, quickly scrawling down exactly what had been listed by Lycoris. It wasn't as though he wanted to make sure to get it right - quite the contrary, he couldn't care less if these Heimites got anything that they wanted, or nothing at all - but it was more that he did not want any of the rest of the inn staff to suffer because of his unwillingness to cooperate. And he would be cooperative, not letting any of this reluctance show on his face. He kept his expression serious, at least, and it was only once he had the orders written down that he bowed to the two of them rather deeper than he normally would have done. Better to expose the back of his own neck than to risk harm to someone he cared about, after all. "My apologies. I was not informed of the situation, only that those rooms were rented and prepared quite thoroughly. Our inn is the best Asgard has to offer and I hope you both find it adequate. My name is Fayt Devanti, and it will be my honor to tend to your every wish for the duration of your stay in Ilusia. I am mostly only present in the early mornings and evenings. Generally my parents, Wynter, and Holly are here during the days."
That sounded far better than "I hope you choke on your different flavors of pie each night", he thought. "I will take your bags to your rooms for you, of course. The keys for your rooms are here," he said, placing a golden key with a key chain bearing a gilded dolphin on it before Lycoris, then two matching silver keys on separate gilded seashell key chains before Adell. A book was presented specifically to him, because asking the princess to sign for something felt almost like he would be asking her to do something for herself, and he already doubted she knew how. "If you would, sir, sign the ledger both here and here to verify your arrival and that the rooms are now occupied?"★ adell windsor, lycoris sotiris ★ there aren't words for how much that doesn't need to happen

The should-be-a-pool-boy possessed manners. Feeling pleased by this, though the half-lidded gaze she directed out the window wouldn't suggest it, she refrained from going on and detailing things that she found suitable to eat at different times of the day so that whoever was in charge of cooking could follow the offered guidelines. There would be time for that later after she was settled. Letting Adell handle what little paperwork was needed came first. "What do you do during the day if not assist your family establishment? Is your desire not to take over the business when your parents are too feeble?" Unlike before, there was the slightest hint of a curious tone to her voice. "Are the two you addressed by name, Wynter and Holly, more efficient than you? If so, I do not mind speaking to them further about things that they will need to know." If he wasn't around when she needed him, then there was little point in expecting him to do anything. Her companion's duties didn't include being constantly at her beck and call. Xara's did, but Xara would be plenty busy being a social butterfly in order to collect information. People would find her easier to converse with. Lycoris finally picked the gilded dolphin key up off the table. A thorough examination followed, ending with an obvious conclusion that no, it wouldn't be a problem for her to touch it. Being overly paranoid could fall on Adell's shoulders. If she considered the possibility that such a trivial thing might be rubbed down with poison, then she would have to be wary about touching anything period. ★ adell windsor, fayt devanti ★ we could just genderbend adell. he'd look adorable with curls and frills

I WON'T RUN AWAY 'CAUSE I'M ALREADY HOME He supposed it would also fall to him to ensure that each of Lycoris' exacting teas were not laced with poison or shards of glass. "Of course." Adell inclined his head towards Fayt, grateful that the man could at least show civility. It didn't really matter what his true thoughts or feelings were, as long as he knew his place, and acted accordingly. The ledger was examined for a moment, then signed swiftly. For a noble's signature, it was rather plain and legible, both of his names able to be distinguished.
And, with that simple gesture, they were now officially lodging in Ilusia. Too early to say how much of a disaster this could turn out to be. But who knew? Maybe this was just the break Lycoris needed from her mother, to relax and return, if only partially, to her old self. People like Fayt probably saw that cold exterior as nothing more than disdain, but Adell knew there were scars and hurts beneath it all. Pain and loss he could only begin to understand.
The keys were taken, the workmanship indicating that there was at least something of an effort to make these rooms habitable for a visitor of this stature. Having no reason to admonish Lycoris for her query, Adell waited for Fayt's response, interested to know who was responsible for their lodgings. With access to keys, and knowledge of which rooms they were staying in, they were a possible threat to security. The separate lodgings were inevitable (though Adell couldn't say he was overly eager to be sharing a room with a member of the opposite sex), and he could not keep watch over Lycoris every hour of every day. Besides physical limitations, it probably wouldn't take too long for him to be ordered to give her some privacy.
The expectant look remained, though Adell had precious little to add to the conversation. "It would be helpful to know about those responsible for our hospitality." It was a comment, intended to goad a little more information out of the innkeeper's son. LAIKA OF GS! Notes: Kinda curious to see what a genderbent Adell would be like, actually.

Fayt had to resist the urge to wince. This was because he had just bitten his tongue to keep from saying something rather sarcastic in return to the princess's words. Away from Heim or not, that probably wouldn't do him any favors. Taking the ledger back from Adell, he said, "I work as an assistant blacksmith in the forge during the days. My older brother, Wynter, is the one being trained to inherit the inn from my parents. The other mentioned is Holly, my little sister. She helps out in the kitchen most of the time, as well as with the cleaning, but she's only seventeen. You may decide if they're more efficient than I am." If it wasn't for the fact that Windsor was armed... Walking around the desk, he thought of just pointing them in the right direction, but it occurred to him that they would probably be insulted by that, too. Instead, he lead them up the stairs and to the end of the hallway; one door was set on the right side, while the other was caddy-corner to it and faced the length of the hallway itself. Gesturing to the second door, he said, "This is your suite, Your Highness. I trust you will find it comfortable." Inside was a bedroom with a king sized bed, a sitting room with bay windows, and a private bathroom. Not extravagant, by any means, but undoubtedly the largest that the inn had to offer. "Your room is adjacent to it, Sir Windsor," he said, pointing to the second room. "I apologize that there is no connecting door, but they are set close enough together that it shouldn't present any kind of problem." Though just holding a bedroom, it did at least have two decently sized beds and large windows, keeping from giving the room an overly cramped feeling. Bowing at the waist, he said, "If there is nothing further for the moment, I will fetch your things for you and deliver your request to the kitchen."★ adell windsor, lycoris sotiris ★ you know what? i am too, now.

One glance over the room is all it took to gain a small nod of approval. Yes, it was a far cry from what she was used to and a bit of work would have to go into making it feel comfortable, but it would do while she was here. It wasn't like she could write to her mother and insist an addition be added to the inn just for her, Adell, and Xara. That would most likely just earn some laughter in response. A step, then another, a few more, then a spin lead her to standing in the middle of the room facing her companion and the one who brought them this far. Jade eyes slipped closed and a soft smile graced her lips. "I like the windows." The amount of natural light coming into the room made it feel warmer, brighter. Curling up there with a book would help pass the time in the night hours easily. "You will give Adell a tour of the village. He will need to know where various places are and a local is best suited for the job. If it interrupts your shift here tonight, there are others you mentioned who can cover for you." Satisfied with that, she reached for the door and began to close it. "As for my bags, please leave them outside of the door. I need to wash up from the boat ride." The scent of the sea clinging to her skin isn't something she wanted. Once Adell knew his way around, he could show Xara and herself. As for her? Bath, unpacking, bed. I WON'T RUN AWAY 'CAUSE I'M ALREADY HOME "As you wish, your highness. I shall return shortly." Adell bowed his head briefly, before turning to Fayt. The rooms were acceptable, Adell instantly grateful that he wasn't the most decadent or demanding of nobility. Qualms aside, there were worse fates than sharing a room with Xara. He could be at least reasonably sure that she would act relatively properly. Some care would have to be taken to preserve both of their modesties, and, more importantly, Adell's sanity. A tour of the village would be useful, and it was highly doubtful that any assassins would come for her this early. Even if they did... well, it was not as though Lycoris was completely defenceless. And besides, she needed her privacy, and Adell was not about to insist on intruding on that for some flimsy excuse like safety. "Well then, Fayt Devanti. Lead the way." He was not planning on remaining quiet on this tour, as getting to know these people was something of a priority. Know them well enough to take a guess at their opinion of the Heimite royal family, and how little they cared about their own lives. If they were easily read enough to come across as rebel sympathizers or, worse, collaborators, Adell would have to be doubly on guard. Or recommend an arrest.
"Working the forge and tending to an inn... you have a rather unusual pair of jobs." It wasn't really a question, but it demanded an explanation all the same. It was true that blacksmithery and hospitality were not things that one typically associated with one another, and there was a glimmer of true interest. "Are there not enough travellers to warrant your working full-time?" It was also a way to figure out exactly how many people passed through this inn, and how often.
Adell allowed Fayt to lead, but his pace was quite brisk, making it clear that he wanted this to be finished with haste.
