Maelynn had no idea he was holding a stuffed cat until now, when he gave it to her. It was adorable, with it’s whiskers and pink nose. She couldn’t wait to take it home and place it on her nightstand. Also, hydrangeas were her favorite flower! How did he know that? ”Oh, those are my favorite! I think I would love that!” She wasn’t sure if the flowers would fit Lance, but a festival was all about having fun! He probably wouldn’t mind it at all. ”I’m Maelynn Brooke. It’s very nice to meet you Lance. I think we should gather a little bit of food before we do some dancing~ How does that sound?” Feeling a bit bold, she took Lance by the wrist and dragged him to the table, where there were spring dishes spread out on the table. A few spring egg rolls wouldn’t hurt. ★ lance, open ★ ~

HERE I SIT UPON THE INVISIBLE THRONE
He could hardly miss a certain woman dressed as a male arriving not long after himself, now could he? Sure, he was otherwise fairly occupied with the doubtless charming young woman before him, but he didn't need to spend much mind in that other woman. All he needed was a small, subtle act that none would ever likely see.
All he needed was a simple little marble, hidden away.
"Hydrangeas it is, then, Lady Maelynn. And a little food doesn't sound like a bad idea at all," he affirmed, shortly before being pulled off toward precisely that. Such was his chance; the marble was quickly extricated from an otherwise hidden pocket by his free hand, dropped down, and kicked back mid-step as silently as could be, without him missing the slightest beat. Down out of view the dull ball rolled until it would stop right in the path of the beastwoman hanging around that 'Alfonse;' and, if the plan held true, being in the perfect place to have her slip on it and right into 'him.'
A little favor, of sorts, from him to she who merely wished to stand toe to toe with him.
With that little bit done... food, then. He didn't need much, only in the end lightly filling a small plate, but it was enough for him, for now. If he did end up needing more whenever, well... he always knew where to find some, whether ill-gotten or no. "Hm... it appears we may even end up at least amongst the first over in that area set out for dancing, at that. I do hope there's nobody I might be making jealous that way," he joked as he cast his gaze temporarily over to that area, chuckling lightly, with his tail, in the meanwhile, swaying steadily from side to side in tune with the music presently playing. "Whatever the case, I'll be ready for a dance whenever you are," he offered, finishing off his portion of food in due time and making sure he waited for his companion to finish before he might lead her off to the dance floor, such as it were.
After all, it was no fun if his companion wasn't having fun as well.

Ouch. The stranger completely ignored him. Resisting the urge to wince, Elwyn kept his grin in place and watched him move away, obviously preferring the company of a pretty blonde-haired figure. Well, not that he could blame the boy too much. Pretty people with blonde hair were always appealing. On that note... "A daisy replacing a rose? Don't tell me no one asked a beautiful young thing such as yourself to this festival." An arm snaked around to try to wrap around Rhiannon's waist and pull her against a brood chest. If the motion was successful, he'd have her in a typical simple dance position hastily, holding one of her hands and resting the other on her waist. If not... well... he'd probably be punched in the face. Those risks were worth it. "Good afternoon." The princess looked up at her escort, the small smile on her lips widening a bit. "Xara and Adell are running behind a bit, but I believe they will be here. Xara is not the type to pass up a lot of food being offered and Adell would be a poor date if he ran too late." He had asked the beastwoman, hadn't he? She kept saying he did, but come to think of it, he didn't seem any more flustered lately. Something like that would certainly get under his skin a bit. Lycoris took a few steps back and gripped her dress, lifting it a bit as she curtsied. "It is rare that I am given the chance to request a dance before someone, so I will gladly take the opportunity. May I have this dance, Fayt?"★ festival ★ awwr, elwyn got ignored by ringo. time to hit on rhiannon and start dancing

Cassandra was quite happy she had forgone wearing sandals for today. Feeling the crunch of grass and soft flower petals beneath her feet was comforting in a way. No doubt her feet would be stained with dirt by the time she returned home, but she did not mind. Her feet continued to brushed against the ground as she swung back and forth slowly. Surely her sister would find her soon enough. A twinge of guilt ran through her for not waiting for Rhiannon to catch up to her. It seemed she was still prone to bouts of childishness. This would be the first time the two of them had celebrated a festival by themselves. No guards, no parents, and no one that knew who they were at all. The two of them were simply denizens of Meridell that everyone would believe had lived there their entire lives. Her musings were cut short when she noticed someone not too far from her. Cassandra glanced towards him to catch him waving somewhat awkwardly at her. It seemed that someone else had been on the swings as well, but she had not noticed him in her haste to claim one of the swings for herself. Her lips curled into a light smile when she noticed the white rose in his hand. A slim brow quirked just a little in curiosity. Cassandra somewhat hoped he was not entertaining the idea of giving it to her. He greeted her courteously and seemed to realize the inadvertent message he was sending with the rose. “Yes, I am enjoying the festival so far. Are you? The scenery is quite lovely,” Cassandra replied brightly. Her blue eyes flickered back to the small groups that were already forming. It seemed that a few knew one another, and she did feel slightly envious of them. The only person she truly knew was her sister here. Cassandra was enjoying her time in Meridell, but she still missed the few friends she had back in Avalon. ★ Ringo/Open. ★ Yay, people~

Placing the rose in one of her braids and mind drifting away with the music, Holly almost didn't hear the approach of a cautious other. She was about to respond when her brother stepped in and the words were lost on her lips. It wasn't a surprise to see either of them there (well, maybe Lycoris a little, as she made it seem like she was nervous about doing anything new), but just seeing them together at once. "Ask Fayt to dance? Sure, if you want him stepping on your toes," she teased, smirk tugging at the corners of her lips. It was quite the opposite, really. If anyone in their family had the dance skills, it was more than likely. And if anyone didn't have them, it was probably herself. It wasn't until she noticed the flower in Lycoris's hair that her mind made the connection. Her brother had... Ah, yes, that would make sense. Her brows drew together for just a moment with an emotion she couldn't pinpoint at the time before she laughed nervously, "I-I'll just leave you two to that. I'm just gonna... Yeah, Wynter should be here soon, anyway." Holly waved her hand slightly before departing for drinks, turning away quickly as to give them... she didn't know, she was going to get a drink. ★ awkward awkward walkwalk

Today was the day. People would be dancing, making merry, binging on assorted foods and drinks. The princess and the innkeepers were already here, but Xara couldn't make out Adell or Theris in the crowd just yet. For now, she would just have to wait. The maid felt somewhat exposed in the black dress she had purchased earlier in the week, but it would have to do on such short notice. Her shoulders were too exposed, her neck too bare, and the color made it feel like she would be fit in better at a wedding or a gimmicky funeral. Still, all she really needed to do was keep an eye on the princess and anyone who came near her. She just had to hope that nothing would come up where she needed to move quickly. Other than that, the maid was pretty much free for the time being. Conveniently enough, there was a well-stocked food stand not too far away from her. Eyeing the food on sale, Xara went with the safe choice and purchased one of everything. A stick of chicken, a stick of beef, a stick of vegetables, some sort of sugary dough stick, and a hunk of corn. She wasn't entirely sure how she was going to eat any of them without smearing everything, but she'd figure it out. Maybe.

"I'm surprised you got up the nerve to ask." The last finishing touches to the ribbon of the dress she wore was done, the bow neatly tied off under the curve of her bosom. A small strand of braid with flowers woven in it was tucked behind her furred ear. "It is about time, if you ask me. I was beginning to think you would never make a move and I would have to do it for you.""Goddesses forbid that." Wynter laughed as he walked alongside the beastwoman he had been friends with for years, blue eyes already roaming the crowd. Was Holly there already? She would be hard to see in the crowd... "What about you, Briar? Where's your date?"Closing her eyes, the girl in question waved her hand dismissively. Pushing her long blonde hair over one shoulder, amber eyes regarded him coolly, though a smile graced her painted lips. "I turned them all down. They were all boring, anyway.""I see, so that's how it was." Grinning to himself, Wynter looked down to straighten the button of his simple, yet nice outfit he had picked for the festival. Leave it to Briar to amuse herself eventually. She pointed. "Oh, there they are."Hm... was that the princess she had heard so much about? "Give him some more credit, Holly." If he was upset by Fayt's choice of date, he certainly wasn't going to let it get to them during a festival. Reaching out, he held his hand out to his own date, eyes softening considerably and smiling at the rose with her. "Would you care being stolen away?"Beside him, Briar rolled her eyes, but she smiled in greeting. Typical. ★ festival ★ festivals are fun <3

Smiling at Lycoris, Fayt nodded a little. "That's usually my line, I'd think, but I'd be honored. Can't promise I'll be much of a dancer, though-...?"
Turning at the sound of Wynter's voice, Fayt stared at both of them before narrowing his eyes. "You asked my sister?" He clenched his hand at his side before unclenching it and instead raised it, attempting to press his palm against Wynter's shoulder and shove him backwards a degree. "You seriously asked my sister and you didn't even tell me you were going to do it? After you've spent all of these years insisting that you don't have a thing for her?"He couldn't believe this. After everything, Wynter didn't even have the decency to tell him - of all people - that he was going to be asking his sister out on a date?! ★ festival ★ real good job there

Why had he been talked into this? He hated social situations. He hated meeting people, he hated small-talk, and above all, he hated feeling like a fish out of water. Adjusting his hat, Tempest looked around at the other festival goers, shifting awkwardly from one foot to the other as he thought about his various options. There was Elwyn, but he seemed... ...well... distracted. By a far more attractive companion than himself, he had to admit. Clearing his throat, he instead made his way over to the table with the food and just... stood there, placing his gloved hands in his topcoat pocket and trying to ignore the fact that he was easily the most overdressed person at the entire event. He could go and attempt to talk to someone, but... that... would be very bad, for reasons that he would come up with before he actually had to give them to another person. So standing by the table as though he was a decoration would be a good idea. At least his wings were hidden at the moment to keep him from drawing too much attention. ★ festival ★ oh my god there are people here i'll go stand in the corner

Holly's words didn't deter the princess from the current dance partner she had in mind. He invited her to come with him, so dancing would be a very natural thing, wouldn't it? Surely he at least knew some basic dance moves. The way he cut off after Holly departed caused her to look over after the female. There was another - a beastwoman, to be exact - and Wynter. But... his words were easy to hear even over the distance (rather short distance, at that), and the tone... ...wait a minute. Lycoris smoothed out her dress and held her hands in front of herself, clasping them together. "I did not realize it was common in these parts for brothers and sisters to be involved in dates with one another. Ilusia is strange after all. I did not imagine your brother was so desperate and depraved." She cleared her throat and looked between the three of them, her gaze lingering a bit longer on Fayt, before she turned and made her way away from them. That was, quite obviously, a family matter, and from the looks of it, they wanted to keep it in the family... in more ways than one. ★ festival ★ because drama come on tempest you can be social!

Oh gods. Her eyes narrowed slightly, placing herself between the two boys. When Fayt was angry, it was easy to tell, and he seemed to grow two feet taller. It was a presence that was definitely intimidating. Holly growing up with him all her life had still not made her immune to the effects and to say that she wasn't a little scared at that moment would be a blatant lie. She didn't even know what she wanted to say to her brother in that instant. She just let the words spill off her tongue, trying to remain calm. "Fayt, you realize that the whole date thing isn't a one-sided event, right? I had just as much part of this as Wynter had, so if you're gonna have to shove people, then I'm on the list with him-- but lets not do this now--" Then the princess just had to talk. Holly did a good job with keeping her mouth shut about these sort of things and she continued to do a good job with it then. As Holly's face went completely red from embarrassment and a bit of frustration, she turned her blue gaze slowly to the other girl. A slow release of breath managed to keep her tone in check. "I am not related to Wynter by blood, let me just make that clear before your mind wanders too far. And I would so... kindly... appreciate if you wouldn't use the words 'desperate' and 'depraved' because, as far as I'm concerned, you are not only insulting him, but myself as well. Thank you."★ AWKWARD AWKWARD. MAYDAY

Oh god. He was so screwed. No, scratch that. He was so dead. Suddenly his mind was racing back to the moment of the picnic where he had thought he would need to tell Fayt about what happened. But he had forgotten and gotten busy, and with the upcoming festival his mind had been completely elsewhere. Not only that, but the blonde had been so busy with work and the forge, and a moment alone had been difficult to come by. What had be been thinking?! He should have told him sooner! Yet here they were, with Fayt obviously angry and oh, there was no way he couldn't blame him. So when the taller boy had shoved him, he let his body roll with it, letting himself be shoved back. "Oh goddesses, I'm sorry, Fayt!" His hands immediately had raised in surrender and apology as they were clasped together, and his head ducked as he cringed. "I had been meaning to tell you but time kept passing and it sipped my mind, then you were so busy at the forge and... I so owe you! Just don't be mad at Holly."Of course, maybe things would have been better if it had been left at that. Even with Holly defending him, he knew making it up to him would be hard. When was the last real fight they had anyway? He couldn't remember. ... If only the princess had kept her mouth shut on the whole situation. He saw red. "Go bite yourself!" Gritting his teeth, Wynter glared angrily at Lycoris' retreating back. Insulting him was one thing, but Holly? That was the last straw. "What were you doing inviting her, anyway?!" Beside him, Briar crossed her arms under her breasts, shooting a dirty look of her own at the insults to her best friend. "Are you surprised? She obviously didn't have anything better to say despite her so called upbringing. What else do you expect from a prissy princess who knows nothing else?" ★ festival ★ oh my god awkward to the max

"Don't even get me started on you," Fayt said as he pointed at Holly, immediately transferring his gaze down to her. "How long has this been going on? And you didn't even think to, I don't know, tell me?! Even in passing?!" Wynter's apology was almost enough to mollify him, just slightly, even if the excuses were about the lamest he had heard from his adopted brother in a long time. "Oh no, Wynter, don't even start with me," he said when both he and Holly started in on Lycoris. "I can ask whoever I want to the festival, and in this case, it happened to be her. And you know what? If you weren't asking my sister, I'd say the same thing to you! Because it would be none of my business!" Looking at Holly, he added, "Tell me, seriously, how long it's just 'slipped your mind' not to tell your only brother about whatever... this... is."
However, honestly, Briar was just too much for him to handle, and he turned his gaze to her next, pointing his index finger at her. "No. Shut up. This is a family issue. You don't get to talk, and frankly, you're in a pretty poor position to judge people, Briar. No one was talking to you, no one asked for your input." He knew, even as he said it, that it was uncalled for in a lot of ways, but it didn't keep him from saying it and it didn't make him apologize after he did so. ★ festival ★ this is how bonds are made, ladies and gents

"And I would so... kindly... appreciate if you wouldn't use the words 'desperate' and 'depraved' because, as far as I'm concerned, you are not only insulting him, but myself as well. Thank you." If the inn keeper's daughter wanted to take insult to it, let her. There was no blood tie between them, yet they were raised as siblings... so to that girl, only blood mattered. Only blood made family. What a skewed world she really did live in. "Go bite yourself!" Those words fro the inn keeper's older son, the on in the spotlight, didn't hit hard. However... "What were you doing inviting her, anyway?!" Those words... those words did. Staying silent, the princess kept herself outwardly distracted by picking up a drink from a vendor and examining it. There were quite a few people staring at the commotion between the siblings and hanging out on the out skirts of it, even as things were directed at her, helped a bit. Not much, but some. "Are you surprised? She obviously didn't have anything better to say despite her so called upbringing. What else do you expect from a prissy princess who knows nothing else?"She should have said no to this entire thing. But, for some reason, that rose being offered to her... no, this wasn't where she belonged at all. It felt like being eight all over again. Standing in a big ball room, hundreds of eyes on her, judging her. Waiting for her to break. Whispers among the people gathered as she walked down those stairs to take her father's hand. That had been the first ball she attended as a the guest of honor, one thrown in her birthday, and all she wanted to do at it was run away before the night ended. Back then, doing that would have only made everything worse. But now... now, there weren't hundreds of eyes watching her. There weren't impressions to make or people to cater to. Right now? This was the most free and least restricted she had been in a long time. This time, she didn't have to put up with the little comments and the looks, or keep appearances up, because who really cared if they judged her? They already did. For the first time today, the princess felt thankful that she didn't wear heels after all. She gathered up her dress to be able to move quicker. The drink she acquired from the stall and the white rose from her hair were both left on a nearby table. With how things sounded from behind her, it would be carrying on for awhile. Lycoris shook her head only once before breaking out into a run. With any luck, she could catch Xara and Adell before they arrived, and just change their plans. If this was what getting side tracked brought her, then maybe the queen was right after all. ★ festival ★ maybe it is better not to be social after all

To be fair, for all his education, training, and the society he had been raised in, dealing with the opposite sex was either something Adell just never quite grasped, or he just had an astounding lack of talent in. And thus, he was attending the festival alone. Excuses and genuine failure had meant that time had run out without him ever proposing an invitation, but he needed to at least make an appearance at the festival. He sighed again at his failure, and straightened his clothing. At the least, he knew how to present himself. He felt somewhat naked without his sword, but at least the suit was well-pressed and properly worn. The cut of cloth may have been a bit too fine, given the event, and it was clear that Adell would not simply blend in as a local. He was keenly aware of the presence of the ring on his finger, the feel and weight still a new thing to him. It wasn't too ostentatious, was it? Another sigh was suppressed as he fiddled with the flower he had brought. There was a chance, no matter how narrow, that Briar, or some other eligible woman, had attended the event alone. At least, in that case, he would not appear to be such a social pariah. They may be simply commoners, but he would hardly be nobility if he did not care about appearances. It, at least, didn't take long to find who he was looking for. There was a feeling that he was walking into something he may be better off ignoring, but with both Lycoris and Briar present, he didn't have any excuse to turn on his heel and leave. Swallowing, he strode forward. If things were about to go badly, Lycoris may very well have need for a bodyguard. He couldn't catch much of what was actually said, with the hubbub of the crowd, but raised voices and accusatory fingers stood out. He quickened his pace, and, when he arrived, Adell's expression was far from friendly. Still, he steeled himself, and tried to keep his solution non-physical. He may be unarmed, but he had no qualms about using a little brute force if need be. Only to have Lycoris extricate herself from the situation on her own. There was an impulse to pursue her, and yet, his feet managed to root themselves. "What happened here?" His voice bordered on outright hostile, though it was fairly easy to understand why. His eyes briefly surveyed those present, somewhat surprised that he was able to recognize them all. His face was hard, and his posture demanded answers. ★ Festival. ★ It's a thing with people and things. Also incest, apparently.
